newbie tips

By Ralgon, in Star Wars: Armada

Off to a demo day tomorrow, probably will be playing with a borrowed fleet. Never touched amrda before although i have xwing and gw tabletop experience not to mention i like my pc rts'.

Any tips to avoid a total kerb stomping? Whats the balance like?

Cheers guys

It's got a good balance mate.

Main thing is to have fun and learn from your mistakes since its your first game.....you will make mistakes trust me. I've been playing for a while and still make poor tactical choices. Haha

Main thing is Rebels like to broadside and stay at longer range. Imperial generally like to bear down front the front and get in closer.

Squadrons are key, Imperial need numbers/numbers/numbers and squadron tokens.

I've had games where I've wrecked the rebel fighter screen and used weak tie fighters to bring down shields/kill things.

You will get hooked, trust me.

Kill or avoid your opponents black dice ships

the last place you want to be is close to the bow of any Star destroyer

Eh Victory isn't THAT bad to be honest if you have the tokens to mitigate it.

It's the XL 10 topping Pizza slice that will one hit kill most of the smaller things...or seriously maul the rest.

There are no defense dice like in xwing. Damage rolled is damage dealt, there are defensive tokens you can use to move the damage around or cut it in half. Also you shoot then scoot (opposite of x wing). If you like x wing, you are bound to love armada!

Maximize your shields. It is often better to redirect a big attack to a side you won't show for most of the game than automatically bracing it.

Pretty nice, went 1-1 using rebels in 400pnt battles.

3 stack actions/commands takes a bit to get used to....

You'll learn eventually ;) And yeah, stay out of the ISD's front arc as long as possible, because it will wreck you :P
