Things fall silent for a while in the dimly lit hanger as the group continue to investigate its contents. Even through the mess there is plenty to pick over, blaster rifles, pistols, com links, and even a couple of grenades can be seen scattered throughout the corpses, enough to well equip any Krogan Runt you can muster for the assault on the Citadel. Its during this process of searching that you hear a deep bellowing roar from deep within the star ship. This is followed by a chorus of the small animals screeches, rising and falling, the cacophony of noise reverberating through the structure, echoing in the otherwise silent rooms.
The Shadows Mark
When the roar echoes through the structure, Queg freezes in place, his hands flying to the familiar grip of the energy bow. The roar sounds familiar, from that dream or vision or whatever it was maybe, but he still doesn't know what is making it. He swallows hard and tries to watch all the possible entry points such a beast might take.
Edited by ProphytNaught shudders when she hears the roar. Not now, she thinks, can't do this now. She extends her hands towards the internal doors, projecting the Force outward, and brings them together, wrenching the doors shut. The effort sets off another coughing fit. That'll buy us some time.
As you each react to the bellow from below the noise of those little creatures rises and falls, but it sounds as if the pack is moving, perhaps getting closer. Through the gloom you know your going to have to prepare for their arrival quickly, although closing that door has surely slowed them down somewhat.
Naught looked around the hangar. There were precious few exits, and she did not relish the thought of fighting territorial creatures while trapped in a room. She looked up, remembering that Larik had gotten some emergency power online. If power can be rerouted that to the hangar door, then it could be opened.
Hurrying to the door controls, she pried open the panel. It normally wouldn't have been easy to see what was inside, but her scanner goggles helped her pick out the necessary details. Okay, good, the wires are labeled and this seems to be laid out in a straightforward manner. She began rewiring the door, diverting additional power from the emergency generator, careful not to handle the uninsulated parts of the live wires. Once she was satisfied she had diverted all the power she could, she set about reprogramming the controls to properly take advantage of it. The sounds of animal growls and barks from below grew louder, and she could hear her compatriots engage them as they tried to enter the hangar, but she stayed focused. Thinking she might have got it, she stepped back to look at her work. No, wait, she thought, that's not quite right. It might work anyway, but it'd be dangerous to try.
With a loud screech the group of birds at the bottom of the hole bound up the wreckage then make the leap up into the hanger, finishing up right in the engagement there.
Almost immediately a large claw reaches through the gap in the door and wrenches up, forcing the blast door to withdraw into its cavity. A huge head pokes through and bellows in anger at the obstacle in its way. It struggles in its eagerness to get through and devour the fresh meat on the other side, you think it could squeeze through very soon.
The more pressing threat of birds is drawing Lalams attention though. Their constant nips and lunging claws are threatening to push him off the edge to the floor below.
As soon as the massive head pushes through the opening in the interior blast doors, Queg absolutely loses his marbles and lets out a wail of absolute terror and animal panic.
The flightless birds launch themselves at Lalam, pecking, scratching, pushing the tough Weequay back and towards the edge of the hole in the floor. With his foot on the edge of the last deck plate the cunning little birds launch one final attack, forcing him to shift his weight backwards. With a grinding screech the last remaining bolts holding the deck plate down are torn. The sheet of metal tips quickly throwing Lalam down into the hole below.
With a deft twist and kick of the legs he manages to launch himself towards the wreckage standing in the centre of the hole, winding himself as he lands on his stomach and forces all the air out of his lungs.
Queg launches himself toward the gigantic creature, hoping to lob the trigger switch into its mouth, distracting it and hopefully setting of the charges. His throw is true, it flies straight into Maws mouth where she bites down hard, immediately triggering a massive explosion. Fire erupts from both sides of the doorway, enveloping the body of the beast in flame, shrapnel flying everywhere. Unfortunately the blast is funnelled forwars by her immense body, the shockwave then the flame wall are sent crashing into Queg. The little figure is knocked flat on his back, crumpled into a heap amongst the detritus that litters the floor.
With the deafening explosion echoing around the cavernous hanger one of the small groups of birds flees, leaping down into the hole in the floor screeching as they go. But Maw isn't even started yet. She charges into the room, angry to be injured, angry the door kept her back so long. As she crosses the room the flashing swirling light of Larik saver draws her attention, flicking her whole body around to crush him with her tail. But she is big, and her movement can be predicted, especially by someone sensing the world around them. Larik feels her approach, feels the tail sailing through the air, then right at the last moment, with perfect timing, dives beneath it, allowing the tree like appendage to crash through the small birds surrounding him.
6 small feathery creatures are launched as if from a sling shot, flying across the hanger and crunching into the floor, two barely stand before leaping down the hole are running for their lives.
Climbing up from the ruins of the shuttle, Lalam is almost relieved to see the avians flee. His leathery skin can't handle much more pecking from these little feathered beasts. The giant head of their Mama surges through the blast doors, but it's almost overwhelming and dreamlike, distant and surreal. He sees his buddy Queg fallen in a heap nearby and it briefly occurs to him that maybe he won't have to buy replacement scanner goggles after all, but...
"C'mon Queg, this is not the time for a nap!" He strains and heaves and somehow he feels it come over him again, that inner strength that surprises people when they try to push him around. He glares at the giant head and mutters "We ain't gonna be nobody's lunch." He drags Queg over to a darkened hallway and looks up, surprised to see a first aid kit hanging from the wall. "Lucky again!" he thinks.
[Force user... danger... KILL!] the thoughts of an enraged monstrosity are only of survival, of outlasting death.
With a burning fury Maw, as her captors had named her, unleashes a torrent of fire over Naught, setting her clothes on fire
When Lalam slams the stimpack into Queg's clammy skin, the severely wounded Rodian coughs up a lump of green-blue blood and groans. "Where am I? Am I dead?"
Lalam looks him over and shakes his head. "Not yet, my friend. Though you certainly look it."
The massive monster roars angrily, and the hall is lit by the flames erupting from the beast's massive jaws. Lalam looks over in horror at something and runs off. Queg clenches his eyes shut at the roaring and whimpers. The electronically modulated, pained screams of Naught snap the last threads of his willpower. With a grunt of pain and effort, he forces himself to limp-run to the closest TIE fighter. He winces as he leaps into the flight seat and hastily activates the weapons system. The gargantuan beast narrows its gaze on the TIE and acts like it's going to move towards it. Without waiting for targeting confirmation, Queg crushes the firing buttons with his fingers.
The blaster cannon bolts slam home into the beast's head and neck, dropping it. Queg celebrates in a terrified manner, shakily gripping the cannon sticks.
A bone crunching thud rolls through the hanger as the great scaled beast collapses under the laser fire. Burn marks on its neck and torso still smoke. The whine of the lasers dies down and silence once more fills the putrid hanger, the sea of rotten corpses now joined by a freighter sized meat mountain.
Queg slowly, shakily powers down the TIE fighter's weapons systems and pulls himself up and out of the little craft. He takes a few moments just to breathe, then climbs down to search the massive carcass. He is a big game hunter, after all, and this is some of the largest game he has ever encountered. Trophies and valuables taken from the body would be worth a fortune . As he searches the giant mouth for teeth to be pried loose, he thinks he sees movement from the direction of beast's neck. The wounds so recently inflicted. Look days...no weeks old and are healing before his very eyes.
He recoils in horror for a moment, then in a moment of pure hatred, he pulls the energy bow from his back and prepares to attack the beast at point blank range.
