The Shadows Mark

By killakan, in Star Wars: Force and Destiny RPG

Larik pats his jacket to confirm his concealed lightsaber is still there and then pulls his blaster from his holster. He locks eyes with Khit and gives her a nod.

As the pile driver rises, you get a snippet of Krogan History, one pointing out the eternal ravages of this planet, and how it had existed before and how you will survive it. The Pile Driver slams down, calling in the first wave. Almost immediately after, you here the sound of old gears squeaking, followed by a "Rodger, Rodger" that doesn't stop.

Hearing the mechanical sounds of droids Khit looks to the direction they are coming from, assessing how long she has before they're on top of the group. she then moves to take cover and aims at the oncoming units

She spots the droids, clone wars era battle droids, marching through the columns in three groups. Taking aim on one of them she opens fire with her new auto-rifle, but the kick back is a lot more than expected. She fires and all the shots land in the columns near the droids, without actually hitting any.

Naught hears the clanking and the vocalizations before she sees the droids marching through the arena. Diving to the ground to make herself a smaller target, she watches as Khit opens fire, which is quickly returned by the incoming battle droids. While Khit doesn't appear to strike a solid hit, it is enough to allow Naught to pinpoint the battle droid's locations in the dusty fog of war. Drawing deep within herself, she draws upon the force, harnessing the desire to protect her friends, but also feeling a surge of anger at hunter societies and their idiotic, unethical rites of passage. She sends one of her weights hurtling towards a group of droids, ricocheting off of two of them before smashing into the back of the lead droid's head, snapping the thin "neck" and sending the partially crushed head falling to the ground.

Battle droids, Larik thinks. He's surprised there are still 9 functioning ones remaining in the galaxy, based on his parents' stories of them from the Clone Wars. Brittle droids, his father used to call them.

Seeing Khit and Naught focus fire on the group to the north and realizing his pistol doesn't have the range to hit from his current location, he breaks for the trio entering from the southwest corner of the arena. When he's close enough for his blaster to be effective, he pops off a few shots at the droids. Sparks fly, showing some of his bolts found their mark. Unfortunately, some other shots missed the mark and gave them a better bead on his location, despite his ducking behind a jagged block of ruined duracrete.

Lama yells "Does anyone have a spare gun? I don't have one!" While trying to avoid blaster fire.

As one of the southern group of droids falls, the pellets rip through the remaining 2, cutting a neat hole through each of them.

The Eastern group advances on Larik's position, firing as they pick through the ruins, one bolt clips the arm of a droid and Larik in the arm.

After her own shots go wide Khit watches on as her companions despatch of the droids in very short order. Its only when she turns towards Larik that she notices him holding his arm. "Hey Larik, you ok? that looks quite the burn on your arm there. Keep sharp everyone, we had better get ready for the next round" Checking her clip Khit looks around the dusty arena for signs more are approaching, hoping she needs to actually pull the lever to call the next wave.

Lama spins around and puts all his power into using his lightwhip and slices through all but one of the droids, he entangles the last droid and Khit shoots it straight through the head.

Larik, backed up against the large chunk of duracrete, sees the blaster bolts from Wale's rifle rip through the last of the battle droids. He lets out a breath and slides his back down the rubble until he's in a seated position. He's more than a little perturbed that his coat got scorched and he sees where the battle droid's blaster burned through the sleeve on his upper left arm, searing the flesh beneath.

Pausing, he looks around and waits for the second wave to being its attack on them. After nearly a minute of peace, he shouts back to Khit.

"I'll be OK, just got a bit crispy."

He sets his blaster on the ground next to him and with his right hand pulls a stimpack from inside his coat. He pulls the protective cap off with his teeth and buries the needle just above the wound. It takes less than a second to feel the burning stop entirely and see the damaged skin start to clear up. He feels the medicine racing through the damaged area of his body and after a few moments thinks he's almost completely healed.
While the stimpack is doing its job, he chides himself. "Have to be more careful," he thinks. "You've only got a couple of these left and you know they can only do so much good for so long."

He tosses the used stimpack to the ground, grabs his pistol and stands back up, ready to continue.

Naught looks at Lama's lightwhip with awe, "This Gand knew we were all gifted, but did not realize there were Jedi among our number. This Gand did not think there were any left in the galaxy." Thoughts race through her head as new possibilities cross her mind. If there are still Jedi, then the knowledge of the Jedi is not completely lost, and old traditions might still be alive. What other secrets might be lying dormant out there?

Shaking herself to return to matters at hand, she retrieves her weight and calls to Larik, "It is good that you are alright. Please be careful during the next waves." To the group at large, she asks, "Does anyone have a medpac? This will likely not be the only injuries we suffer during this 'test.'"

Wale replies "I have some basic medical training, but I'm gonna need an assistint, also, let's see what may be lying around here, at least one of these folk had to be a medic before he died."

"I'm not a Jedi, Gand, I was merely friends, and a student of one." Lama says " I can assist you, I believe, Wale." he continues.

"I have some knowledge of medicines, I may be of assistance too. Your right Wale, there are things all over the ground here" Khit begins poking around with her feet, while keeping one eye on the arena around her.

Lama walks around saying what he finds" OOH! a Thermal Detonator, no two Thermal Detonators. A couple of Frag Grenades, and hey! I found a pistol. Yipee!" Lama pumps his fist in the air and juggles his thermal detonators. Thoroughly distracting everyone else.

Naught says to Lama, "My apologies, this Gand had not considered that the Jedi and their teachings are not synonymous. Still, it is good to know that those teachings have survived."

She begins casting about the dead bodies of past warriors, looking for something they can use. She sighs as she considers the magnitude of life lost here, of the lives wasted because they did not live up to some arbitrary standard of fitness. Finally, as Lama Ku begins shouting about the explosives he has found, her eyes catch on a sturdy case peeking out from beneath a body. Carefully nudging it out, she discovers a medkit, and a pair of stimpacks that the warrior never got the chance to use. She calls to Wale, saying "This Gand has found a medkit!" and moves to Larik, handing him the stimpacks she found. "This Gand does not know enough about xenology to try first aid, but Wale can surely help with a little assistance."

Khit takes her time, picking over the battlefield, looking for any grenades to load into her launcher. After a couple of minutes she has relaxed a little and comes across a backpack with 2 Stun grenades in it . As she moves back to the centre of the Arena she loads on into the gun, then looks around to her companions. Everyone is scavenging too, a medical, a compact rifle and even a couple of Thermal Detonators... "I wonder if those fit in my launcher?" But they are too big. She looks up to Lama, scavenging for what looks like scrap metal, he has a small pile started when suddenly he gets a funny look on his face, and promptly stops. Everyone looks to have finished, spending more time looking for threats than equipment.

"Ok guys, I'm calling the next wave" she then hits the button, activating the mechanism

Larik takes the Stimpacks from Naught and silently does a 1/4 bow to her to thank her for thinking of him.

Poking around the scattered remains of the battle droids, he discovers a much more powerful blaster than his current one. Under it is an extra power supply. He is astounded by his luck and pockets the reload, tossing a pontenially overly cocky nod to Khit. The team did well, he thinks, they can handle whatever the Krogan throw at them.

Lama says"Khit catch." and throws her a thermal detonator "See if it fits in your launcher."

Khit checks to make sure everyone is ready then pushes the button again.

This time the test will be harder. A total of 13 adversaries shamble through the entrance gates and it's immediately clear to a few of them there's something odd about the next wave.

Larik sees an opening and dashes a bit closer to one of the groups to get a better shot and a better idea of what the group is facing. He's never seen anything quite like these monstrosities before and he has to take an extra second to steel his resolve to stand against the oncoming horde of barely humanoid, mostly cybernetic creatures that looked like they've been ripped from a child's nightmare.

Larik stares so intently his fingers release from their grip on his pistol. The sound of metal clanging on to rock at his feet snap him out of his daze and he spots something that may be useful.

"Wale," he shouts. "Look at the pulsating glow in their chests. It might be a vulnerable spot!"

He looks down at his newly-found blaster and wonders if it makes more sense just to draw his lightsaber and charge since he'd have to pick up his gun anyway...

As the arrival of the second wave once again sends up huge clouds of dust, Naught sees a large, obscured figure loom uncomfortably close. Reacting on instinct, she begins to lift the largest pillar handy to hurl at the figure, when suddenly she becomes present and feels what is happening within her. Shocked by the mix of fear and anger swirling about inside her, she realizes that this test is threatening to turn her into someone else. This is not who I am, she thinks firmly and releases the Force, abandoning her attempt. Ducking behind a broken pillar for cover, she attempts to center herself and push back the emotions threatening to overwhelm her.

Lama yells" I'm going throw my Thermal when I have an opening!"

Lama yells"Grenade!" and throws his thermal at the biggest blob. Hopefully that isn't someone I know. he thinks, just as a massive explosion rocks the ground.

Larik takes another look at the blaster laying at his feet and decides the time is right to give up his secret. As the blast from Lama's grenade rocks one side of the arena, Larik reaches deep inside his coat and produces his lightsaber. The heft of the handle feels good and his confidence is immediately bolstered by being able to use a weapon with which excels. The orange blade hisses to life as he runs toward a cluster of four cyborgs. He hears his mother's words, reminding him to always stay moving during a fight and to use the graceful sweeping gestures to keep his opponents off guard. His fighting style is reminiscent of a dancer as he moves through the group, removing the first one's head with his first slash which he carries through to bisect another. As he pulls through the next adversary he changes his blade's angle, swiping a third cyborg's left leg and finishes by drawing his saber through a sine wave, lopping off the fourth's left arm on the way up and it's right on the way down.
