The Shadows Mark

"To get to the center of the city, take the path around the crashed star vessel, which might also give you food and shelter. If you want, you can lead a scouting party up there in a Tomkah, you'll just have to convince the chief to let you."

"Chief you say, some local company would be sensible, where can we find your chief? ...and what's a Tomkah?"

"I don't know where he is, but you'll know it when you find him, same with the Tomkah."

Larik is somewhat concerned about Wrex's obvious disdain for the Jedi and Clone Troopers, but holds his emotions in check. He also tries not to be perturbed by the Krogan's reticence to even describe what a Tomkah is, so he presses a bit, being mindful to maintain his respectful countenance.

"Wrex, none of us have been to this world before. Is there any way to describe a Tomkah to us? Is it a living being, or a structure or something else entirely? Any help you can provide will be greatly appreciated."

Wrex facepalms, "A Tomkah is a main battle tank with wheels instead of treads and is also an APC."

Khit has a little chuckle, then addresses the old Krogan "If there's nothing else we can do to help you then we should get moving, there's a lot of ground to cover. I thank you again and hope to see you when we return"

If he has nothing more to say then Khit heads outside, still looking over her new friend Vera, to her Gupgup. "Look Gup, we made a new friend, her name is Vera and she is going to take care of us" Khit then prepares to move along, finding a good way to holster the new firearm in the saddle, within easy reach. Her mothers pistol on her hip and the long barrelled rifle on its sling across her back. She feels confident in herself, although this planet gives her a distant sense of dread.

Larik watches Khit exit Wrex's home with her new friend and turns back to the old Krogen.

"Wrex, thank you again for your hospitality and for providing Khit with your weapon. If good fortune smiles on us then she won't have to use it, but I feel safer knowing she has it. We will be back for our ships before too long."

With that, he stands and motions for Naught to accompany him outside.

When he's satisfied that they are far enough away from the house and out of earshot from from Lama, Khit and Gupgup, Larik lays out his concerns to his Gand friend.

"I caught your meaning in there; I too think we're in a bad situation. We've been summoned to a planet by someone who knows a hell of a lot more about us that we do about her and it seems quite likely everyone here will be hostile to strangers - especially force users, if Wrex's opinion on Clone War era Jedi is shared by others. And what kind of force user - who has already admitted to removing peoples' tongues to keep them quiet - allows this kind of strife to flourish? It's unnatural for a world to be at war this long unless outside forces are being exerted.
"I have a bad feeling about this. I can't shake the feeling this is a trap we've freely walked into and we must tell the others about our fears. What do you think?"

"Hey, Khit can I examine that thing?" Lama asks. " Do yo have any idea how such a masterful, and amazing weapon was built?" he then asks Wrex.

"Sure thing Lama, I've heard of these before but never held one. I think it could be quite useful if some nasties get a little close, you probably don't want to be next to them when this goes off though... I'll try to give fair warning!"

"This Gand is torn," Naught said, looking up at Larik, "as this world is clearly in dire need of assistance and healing, but it would be both hubristic and foolish to think that the five of us can resolve a four-way civil war. Where would one even begin?"

Naught began to pace back and forth as she continued to talk, "Moreover, everyone involved is keeping secrets." She threw up her hands in frustration. "The one who contacted us tells us the bare minimum of information. This Krogan, while admittedly helpful, clearly knows more than he is letting on," Naught said, tapping the side of her head, "considering he disclaimed any knowledge of what a Zabrak before any of us had uttered the word." Sighing in frustration, Naught stopped and faced Larik, "This Gand tries to give people a chance to prove themselves trustworthy, but all these secrets make it difficult not to be paranoid."

Naught turned away, scanning the horizon as though enlightenment would break over her like dawn. "But, seeing what is happening here, this Gand cannot simply turn away and leave. And answers will only be found with the one who brought us here."

"In that we agree as well," Larik says, nodding his head.

"The innocents here need help, but I'm having a hard time sussing out whom, exactly, that is. We need to get this out in the open with the group and make sure we're all on the same page, see if they've picked up on the same things we have or if they have other insights. Maybe we'll have some privacy as a group to discuss these matters once we've found this Tomkah Wrex was talking about."

He pauses to look down, closes his eyes, rubs the bridge of his nose and sighs heavily, not really wanting to bring up the next part, especially given Naught's comment about paranoia. He looks over at Lama and Khit poring over the new weapon and shifts his gaze toward the ship where Wale looks to be inspecting the outer hull.

"The other thing is, any of us could be working with the Zabrak. And maybe she's not the bad guy here. Maybe she's the only thing keeping this planet from being a completely charred husk, but that's not what my gut's telling me."
He saw Naught raise a hand to interject but shook his head and kept going.
"Nobody's given me a reason to think so, but considering how layered and messy this thing is turning out, and that none of us - save for you and I - knew each other prior to sitting down in the cantina, we don't know that someone wasn't sent there by her to keep tabs on everyone else."

Larik stooped down to pick up a small piece of broken duracrete and rolled it in his right hand.

"I want to trust everyone and I'm not going to bring that up. It just seems prudent to be extra vigilant and for everyone else to be as well.

"We should probably rejoin the team, yeah?"

To Lama: Wrex answers, "By my late Great-Great Grandfather 5,000 years ago."

Wale, gone through this whole measure, walks up to Kiht, "You got a fancy gun, I hope that you can use it, I've been wallking through town, and they don't look happy that strangers are here. I think we got tow options, leave now, or fight our way out. Fighting ain't a good option though, they got some big tanks, big as in Correllian Mining Crawler big, with a blasted salvaged turbo laser on one of them! And they're fast! I say, that this guy is friendly but we can't stay, our ship will be destroyed! We gotta get out, or we fight out." He mounts up and charges his autoblaster, "Make your choice."

"I'm definitely not equipped to fight vehicles, we had better gat a move on"

Pretty sturdy gun Khit. Far sturdier than most standard guns, one might say It's superior to other guns and weapons.

Hmm, how about that. Let's just hope we can move swiftly and don't need it.

Naught nods to Khit, "Indeed, we had best be moving quickly if we don't want our ship blown out of the sky by that turbo laser." Naught turns to Wrex and bows, "This Gand thanks you for your assistance, warrior. Hopefully your neighbors do not take exception to it."

"I see no reason they shouldn't, the former clan chief gave you his weapon" He says before shutting the door. Where do you go next?

Khit is mounted and eager to get moving, one hand on the reigns the other on her long barrel rifle. Looking out onto the street she watches up and down, looking for movement. She is accustomed to navigating in the wilderness, but her sense of direction is still with her. When everyone is ready she heads out onto the street and towards their final destination.

Larik closes his eyes and reaches out through the Force to Arkady in the ship and tries to send a message explaining that the group is leaving, but that they will return and he'll be safe in the ship until they get back. Then he grabs a seat in the sidecar of Naught's speeder.

"Lead the way Khit," he says, double checking his blaster pistol is fully charged and within easy reach. "We should probably go two abreast as far as we can. Wale, why don't you go along side Khit and Gup since you've done some poking around already. Naught, Lama and I will cover our rear, literally and figuratively."

He pushes a button on the dash of the side car and it rotates 180 degrees so he's now rear-facing.

"Keep your eyes and ears open everyone."

"Fine with me." Says Lama as he climbs in a speeder." I should strip this thing down for scrap and parts when we get back." he adds

Naught powers up the Drone and checks the gauges. "This Gand suggests we make haste, in the hopes that a quick exit will avoid conflict entirely. Everyone on this world has more important things to worry about than us," she says with more optimism than confidence.

"We all know that's true, lass. Let's hope we can get ourselves out of here" Wale says as he puts his foot on the accelerator and zips off into the maze of rubble ahead, toward the massive vessel to the East, "We'll find our best cover there," He points out the structure over the comm.

With Wale and Kiht Ne navigating, you will reach the spire within three days, but your navigation has led you straight into a Krogan scouting camp, and they shoot first, ask questions later, you are at Medium range in dark conditions, in addition to the smog covering the area.
