Conflict talents

By Blackbird888, in Star Wars: Force and Destiny RPG

I thought I read somewhere that the conflict talents (Terrify and Baleful Gaze) incur conflict based on use. However, from the descriptions of both, it just seems to say that the PC gains conflict at the beginning of each session only.

Can I not find where it talks about it, or did I imagine it?

I never saw anything that said using them incurs Conflict. I think they would be far less useful if you took Conflict just for having them and then Conflict for using them ontop of already starting with Conflict.

It's more that terrifying someone tends to give a PC conflict according to the "awarding conflict guidelines" in the GM chapter

You get conflict only for having it, not for use.

Though depending on the use some additional conflict might be appropriate. For example scaring somebody so much they run off a cliff in terror or something. In general however you get the one per session and that's it.

Sam Stewart mentioned on one of the Order 66 episodes that the automatic conflict was a simpler solution than generating conflict on every use.

However, my players and I agree that using the Force to instill fear is quintessential Darkside, so I award 1 conflict every time it's used, in addition to just knowing it. Yes, it's a house rule, but my players are in complete agreement, and it hasn't caused anyone to fall to the dark side yet.

"Yet... Muaahahahaha hahahaha"

I'm glad abilities don't automatically give you conflict when you use them. More like, HOW you use them. :P

I'd like to see more of these talents to be honest. As I find them to be an interesting and fun mechanic. Though I can see how using certain ones can award more Conflict. I'd like to think not all of them would though. Case by case thing.

A Wookiee Aggressor/Enforcer who scares away the stand over men of gangs on Nar Shadda and breaks up "protection rackets" trying to blackmail small businesses and mum&pop shops. Sounds fun.

While I like the Aggressor .... I'm really digging the Warden concept.

Edit: I like the idea of a Warden/Marshall mix.
