Batrep from the Attic - SO CLOSE

By RazelKorr, in Star Wars: Armada

Managed a tense game against Cory this week at the Attic. 399 against 395, I go second and he picks my Superior Positions.

My thought was to come flanking around with Statler & Waldorf while Neith soaked up the damage and pushed the Fireball. It worked well for the first turn or two, the cloud of Firesprays acting as a potent deterrent.

The problem came in that the entirety of his ships focused on that limited area, some of his ships literally only getting AA shots against my firesprays. Four ships concentrated in a tight circle are just…awful.

On the plus side, somehow a plus, Neith would up taking a Comm noise from the Asteroids and slowed to 0, meaning she morphed into a turret for the last half of the game. Because of that, the Fireball traded entirely for his Squad support, which wouldn’t have been enough to win except for three things-

First is the Corvette that got too close to Neith and took eleven dice up the butthole. Second is the fact that it was a Dual-Arc into the rear – meaning a victory token. We both already had one, effectively canceling them out, but that tipped it in my favor. At this point, per my numbers, I ended the sixth round with a 12 point MoV. This does not factor in his final movement which, unfortunately, was to fly the potato off the table. All in all it was a close game as I tried to use the Firesprays like a Dilophosaur uses its frill.

Thanks for sharing! Always enjoy reading battle reports.

Agreed, always fun to read a nice concise batrep. 4 fires prays though, oof, must've cost you!

I enjoy writing them, so it works out!

I piecemeal'd them on EBay, so it wasn't terrible. :D

Nice bat-rep :)

Do you mind if I ask why you chose to swing around to the right with the ISD rather than go left to bring your front arc to bear? Or were you expecting the rebels to turn into you?

I decided against a direct confrontation because I know better than to over-estimate my Hull. By limiting the engagement he would have to bring his ships into my arc of his own volition if he wanted any points outside the squadrons, who were quite capable of getting victory points to offset their own value. If he did so, not only would he be in range, he would also take obstacle damage, ideally. In the end the threat of the Fireball was enough to force his ships around their field of influence, which meant that most of his ships didn't get to do anything except potshot squadrons. When you can't beat them in a brawl, neuter their advantages and break just past even.
