Cruise ships

By Bremy, in Zombie Apocalypse

So I since I got this rulebook my brain has been in overdrive coming up with ideas on running this in my home town. Now it's thinking about my workplace, on cruise ships. I'm considering writing a short campaign for surviving on cruise ships.

So I'm thinking somethinges along the lines of a couple passengers get the virus while ashore, turn in the medical centre and bite the nurses. Then it can spiral out of control from there. The medical centre is one deck directly below the atrium so maybe a party in the atrium and the bloodbath begins. There a lot of older people on cruise ships that aren't capable of running away from zombies or fighting them off so it could turn sinister quick. Also there's not many places to go since your trapped on board. You can lock yourself in your cabin and hope to survive, try and get to a lifeboat and lower it to get away (will need the help of crew for this or have them trying to get away), get to the bridge and hope it's not been attacked by zombies etc.

Anyways that's the plan and I'll be using actual deck plans from the ship I'm on just now and pictures to set the scene. Will upload it here when it's done. What does everyone think?

If anyone has any ideas or questions I'll be glad to hear them.

Sweet. I'll have a look and see what yours was like then.

You can also check out the Invictus Stream on Youtube. They ran a one off zombie campaign set on a cruise ship as well.

Very nice. I will listen next time i get free wifi in port. Will be good to hear how other people run it on a cruise ship. I'm a relatively new gm, only run a star wars campaign but hopefully my experience of actually working on cruise ships will help me here. Might go ask the senior doctor and the captain now how we would deal with a zombie outbreak haha

So I read through your notes from your game. Sounds like a fun and awesome game. Here's a couple things I took from it.

I love that you started it on mystery island. I'm not sure if you've been there but I have and here's why I like it and some info for people who don't know about it. Mystery island is a small uninhabited island east of Australia near Vanuatu and new Caledonia. The "locals" come over on boats to sell goods and drinks to cruise ship passengers. For an uninhabited island there is a small grass runway that runs the length of the island and beaches on either side. Now here's why I like the idea of this island. The locals play up to the classic story of the people from the island and sorrounding area were cannibals. So when your on the island they have a lot of stuff around showing they are cannibals so it could of started as someone thinking they were seeing a show and actually getting bitten.

Another small thing to do with the chief engineer. A lot of people might be surprised to hear that a chief doesn't do much on cruise ships. More an overall manager of the technical team. There is normally about 100 crew that work in the engine room with about 15 of them being mechanical officers and about 10 electrical officers. So when it comes to a fuel leak losing the chief is no major problem. However with so much guys in the engine room it could be quite easy for the outbreak to effect the engine room. An up side to if an outbreak happens in the engine room is you can seal them off between the water tight doors and they won't be able to operate them. Most cruise ships these days have electric propulsion so a fuel leak doesn't always mean loss of propulsion. The engines are separated onto different modules so a fuel leak may mean they lose 2 engines out of 6. Rarely will an engine loss all power from a fuel leak. The problem comes if the fuel leak ignites. A fire on a ship is a major problem.

I may have gotten a bit technical there but it's just some info that you may be able to consider of anyone runs it again. I'm one of the engineer officers on board so if anyone has any ideas they want to run by me I would be more than happy to help out

perfect example of surviving on a cruse ship. these guys actualy play the game, the situation they are on is extemely similar to what you originaly stated. hope it is helpful :)
