SLAM

By Kmathews13, in X-Wing Rules Questions

Okay so I'm probably splitting too many hairs here but I've been having this debate for a couple weeks. When you slam you must slam the same speed as that of your original maneuver. However it doesn't state if that slam needs to be a maneuver ON the dial.

Any thoughts?

It has to be a maneuver on the dial check the reference card for SLAM. It says to choose a maneuver on the dial.

It does say it has to be on your dial

It's literally written in black and white on the rule card that the maneuver must be one from the dial, and yet you come here and state the exact opposite.

So... thoughts....

I'm thinking your comprehension skills need some improvement.

Also, who the hell were you debating this with? And why didn't they just put the rule card under your nose to demonstrate you're wrong?

I mean, otherwise you could theoretically slam a 3 Stop, which has no meaning. So yes, on your dial, as the card SAYS.

I find your lack of manners... disturbing. Way to scare off a new poster.

Kmathews13, we had a thread a while back where somebody asked the same question. In that case, what eventually came out was that they thought the "choose and execute a maneuver on the ship's dial" part of the SLAM card was referring to something else... Let me just quote myself.

Ah, I see now. You were reading the "choose and execute a maneuver on the ship's dial" part as referring to the regular maneuver you perform during the Activation phase, before you get to the Perform Action step where you're doing the SLAM. It's not. Compare the rules for boost and barrel roll, neither of which reference your regular maneuver at all. That first sentence is referring to the SLAM movement. In fact, without it, there would be nothing to move you during a SLAM at all.

If that's what's happening here, tada! Here's your answer. If it was just a case of you misremembering what was on the card, don't feel bad, it happens to all of us. I'm sorry you didn't catch it before making the post. Don't let our posters' frustration with repeated questions that can be answered by carefully rereading the rules drive you away from this forum or the game.

Do the forums have a search function? Someone find me the answer.
