MC30: ACM or XI7?

By Iskander4000, in Star Wars: Armada

My limited experience using torpedo frigates is that they dish out tremendous damage which is immediately braced down to an amount that is less than devastating. Next time I use them I think I will try HTT.

But they'll still Brace, no? How about Intel Officer?

Will definitely be trying that but as pointed out, I usually run Walex in that slot. I also want to try Lando.

Yeah, those are good choices, too.

I just had a game with lando where he saved my foresight. Foresight had 2 shield and two health at red range, and he was shooting three reds into the arc that had a shield up. I already had discarded one evade, so if he could roll two doubles and an accuracy for my other he would kill it. So he rolls, and he gets two doubles and a hit, vader rerolls the hit and he gets the accuracy! He's like woohoo!

But then Billy Dee swoops in and double crosses Vader Bespin style. Re-roll not nearly so fortunate, Foresight flies away.

I guess I'm in the neither camp. I feel that the Turbolaser Reroute Circuits are a natural upgrade to any ship with two Evade defense tokens, but especially helpful to the MC30 because it is a ship designed to eventually move in close where the Evade loses it's function. I like to run a MC30c Scout upgraded with TRC, APT, and Ordnance Experts under an Ackbar list with a Home One equipped MC80. You can guarantee 2 damage with an Accuracy from range from two of your four red die. Then, when you move in, you at very least can throw 4 red and 3 black (+1 black if you throw caution to the wind and have a Concentrate Fire dial queued up) even if just one side arc can connect. At 85 points it isn't a throw away ship but there is a fair chance of dealing significant damage. Sometimes I add Lando just cuz I know it will frustrate opponents, making the total 89.

They'll Brace, but they won't do anything else.

The Trick of HTTs is hitting the Side with just barely more damage than shields... Because essentially, they Lose all the shields there - or they lose EVEN MORE by Bracing and Redirecting...

Its not perfect, but if you're not negating the brace entirely with an ACC, its the next best thing.

Besides, even with Intel Officer, they'll likely Brace and get away with it, and the poor MC30 only gets that one shot off, generally speaking...

So in a perfect world, you want the Intel officer somewhere else, so you can deal with it before the MC30 takes its shot...

Yeah, I just got really burned last time I brought HTTs, so I'll just leave them at home. Maybe it's my meta, but I feel like I'm getting more from XI7s. At least more consistently.

APT's and TRC's on an MC30. . . WOW. . . I am utterly flabbergasted at the sheer damage being put out there. . .

Neither!

Xi7, Expanded Launcher, Ordnance Expert. 10 dice, mostly black, pile driver.

On the question on hand, if given the choice, HTT. Lacking ordnance/only 2 black front dice, the crit fishing is not consistent enough for me.

My buddy runs those and Ordinance, too. I hate them.

When fighting Imperials (typically ISDs) It is very hard to line up a shot with another ship and have the MC30 go AFTER that and also still be in black range, unless you do some fancy piloting and your opponent does some flawed maneuvering. For rebels, if you can get close enough to an MC80 or Assault Frigate and sit in the front arc, it is much easier to do this.
