First time GM with a couple of questions.

By WeaponsFree, in Game Masters

Hey guys and gals,

So today I ran my first session for my Edge of The Empire campaign and it was a blast, with a few minor hiccups which I was able to bypass with some GM misdirection and deliver a fun experience to my players.

My main issue is the GM Screen, as great as it is, I found myself constantly looking at a character sheet in order to see the different skills available to draw from. I am wondering if anyone has any updates or add-ons to the screen to make it a well rounded resource for a novice GM. I know a lot of this will come to me the more I play and run the games but I would really like something to help me out early on versus constantly having to reference the core rulebook.

Also I had purchased the imperials and rebels deck and was wondering how you build a dice pool off of their stats as it seems that they dont have ranks in skills on their cards. Do I consider it to be rank 1 if it just labels the skill? Completely lost on these things.

Thanks.

I'm also new, but I can talk about your last question. They are minions, they don't get skills unless you group them to gather. See page 390 EoE rulebook.

The skills will come in time. I'm not aware of any GM screen updates, but if you can scan the skills page for reference it might make it easier.

The best tool you can use is OggDude's character generator:

The main beauty of it is that everything is on the character's sheet (skills, talents, weapons), so you can make the players do the work. Otherwise, the GM screen isn't really that useful IMHO, the critical charts are about the only thing I use.

For minions, just to add a bit of detail: they have no skill ranks if there's just one of them. If you group them, they have skill ranks for each *additional* minion (up to a max of 5). So two stormtroopers (Agility 3, skilled in Ranged Heavy) have a dice pool of YGG, and three stormtroopers have a dice pool of YYG. On the cards, the skills you can add for a group are listed under "Skills (Group Only)".

I dont have it here since I'm at work, but found it useful to take all the skills and list them under their arrtyibute, kind of like how the old WEG sheets used to look. So it was AGILITY: Ranged (light), Ranged (light), Piloting (space), BRAWN: Brawling, Melee and so on.

When I get home, I'll throw it on a google drive or something so you can look at my excel sheet.

If you have the beginner game for EotE you can flip over the game booklet or rule booklet, I forget which...it has all skills and which attribute it ties to, as well as a nice cheat sheet as to what qualifies for each skill.

It's pretty bad that the players consistently beat FFG on their own product. But well done everyone!

Okay, here's my skill list broken down by attribute:

The Master List

(At least in theory - I may not have the sharing settings set correctly. If not, let me know and I'll fix it)

It worked for me on my smart phone.

It's simple but effective. Thank you for sharing.

Wow I completely missed that. Thanks.

Also, if you want a character sheet that's in the style of the old WEG layout, with the skills under the attributes, try this . It's not as fancy as Oggy's Character creation, but I like it better than his layout.

use that. Seriously, that is about 3 times more information then the GM screen, and has everything where you needed it

I'm away from book right now but didn't they change the emergency repair patch to always restore 3 wounds?

Correct (still with a limit of five times per 24 hours.)

If it was ever like the stimpack, I'm not certain, but some items work a little different in the Beginner's Adventures.

I also recommend these cheat sheets as an alternative if you're not overly fond of tables.
