The Shadows Mark OOC

By killakan, in Star Wars: Force and Destiny RPG

I think the relevant language is this:

Parry: "When the character suffers a hit from a Brawl, Melee, or Lightsaber combat check ..."

Improved Parry does not involve a combat check, it merely hits the target with a weapon, so by a strict reading of the rules, the riposte from Improved Parry does not allow for Parrying back.

That said, from a narrative standpoint, it is entirely logical that a riposte can itself be parried (this happens all the time in fencing), so I could see allowing it based on that logic. I don't see any gamebreaking interactions cropping up if you allowed it.

I'm curious because at 20 XP it seems like an expensive talent with not a lot of effect if the damage can be reduced with parry. If it can't be reduced through parry, it's a no brainer. Richard can you weigh in on how you'd adjudicate it before I decide how to spend the XP?

Well, extra hits are extra hits. Even if they parry away the damage, you're piling up strain that much faster. With your Sense upgrades, it shouldn't be that hard to up the rate at which enemies roll threat/despair.

Fair.

I'm thinking about it, just give me a bit to get out of bed and ready for work.

Ok so im going to go with the idea that Parry (or Reflect) can only be used when your the target of a combat check. I believe the intention of Improved Parry(Reflect) is that those Threat or Despair represent the Attacker having to open themselves up to retaliation to be able to achieve the Hit they intended:

Eg. "The Mysterious stranger sweeps around you, jabbing here, swiping there, each time you deflect her glowing blades away, the effort showing on your face. Finally she sees an opening in your defences and dives low to bring her double saber up inside your reach. Unfortunately for her she realises too late that you had anticipated this move, your saber comes down quickly and leaves an open slice across her left arm. Both of you leap back as the pain takes hold, but this fight is not over yet."

So thats a successful hit, with damage reduced from Parry, then a return strike thanks to your Improved Parry. you will notice that for this example the single dice roll was much more than a single "hit" without your parry it could have been 2, 3 or even more. In this way you don't have to explain how you Parried the attack but also got hit.

does that make sense?

My cat wishes to say "hello" >.>;

She's being needy tonight

just did that thing where i typed out another response, only to go back then into another thread without posting... response lost :(

GMRen your welcome to join any time you want, i don't think you did quite enough since leaving the Krogan camp to warrant a Morality change, so don't worry about rolling for that, but you can make a Destiny Pool roll for this next "session"

whafrog you can make a DP roll as well.

Kaigen do you remember any specific moments that where Conflict worthy for Naught since leaving the Krogan camp? I only started tracking lat in the combat, the only thing i can think of is the frustration she felt with the Holocron.

Ill post a "you wake up to another overcast dreary depressing day in hell" post shortly in IC then you guys can get the next leg of the journey under way

Khits Morality check

Morality Check : 1d10 5

she goes up 1, to 53.

Can everyone else post your Morality scores too, then i can perhaps trigger one of them for this next session.

In case anyone's curious (also because I'm a little bored), the cat in question Stormageddon , Destroyer of Worlds

I rolled an 8 earlier, so subtracting Queg's Conflict rating of 2 , his Morality increased by 6 to a total of 56

The holocron interaction was the only thing this "session." Last time she got Conflict was flipping dark force points against the worm. Her current morality score is 64. Based on her recent actions, I think Compassion/Hatred might be a more fitting pair, although "Contempt" might be a more accurate descriptor for the dark side.

Im completely fine with you coming up with "new" strengths and weaknesses, Contempt sounds great actually, and does fit her well at the moment.

Richard, do you roll Destiny for Khit now that you're the GM or no?

Lalam: 50

Jay: 50

Khit: 53

Queg: 56

Naught: 64

Larik: 64

Richard, do you roll Destiny for Khit now that you're the GM or no?

Im only doing it because she is one of my favourite characters I have ever made :P (I want to see her progress) But she will be taking a back seat in this adventure now that there are at least 4 regular PC's

Im going to roll the D100, if its high or low then 2 of you will get affected due to double up at the top and bottom of the list. Ill work out how that happens later!

Triggering Morality : 1d100 45

So Lalam and Jay will be needing to find ways for their Morality to directly affect their actions this session, Im happy to talk about it with you, but getting the right encounters in there should be important. Ill think about that as the encounter come up.

The group should make a Survival check to navigate for the day, one roll, combined check is ok. Boost added for the Krogan's earlier assistance. Difficulty is Average, you have a beacon to follow, but upgraded twice due to the dangerous nature of this planet. Add 2 setback for the lack of any map and the complex nature of a partly destroyed war torn city.

Here's my Density check... :)

Destiny : 1eF 1 Dark Side

I'm not great in the wilderness, better on the streets.
Lalam's moral code is simple (Intellect of 1, whaddaya expect): "Don't hurt the things I'm protecting". What he decides to protect, though, may be up for speculation.

I have some ideas, both of your Moralities and Motivations are quite similar, so it actually works quite well.

How does Queg have the most ranks in Survival? >.>;

Your a Seeker, that's what they do. Your a Hunter, they like the wilderness... 1 and 1 = 2, in your case :P

lol Well, technically, I can choose to let Queg assist someone with Cunning 3, that way their pool would be APP *shrugs*

I think that's up to GM discretion though

Skilled Assistance is fine when we are out of Initiative.
