The Shadows Mark OOC
Minions had heads...
What about a deception check to coat the rope and wire with dirt and dust to camouflage it?
Sure. the way i see it you will all have a chance to act once before they are rounding the corner. As Prophyt said Queg's action will be letting you out then moving the truck out of the way. so its basicly Naught, Lalam and Larik who need to do this. you have a little time to prepare in the truck before picking a spot to do this. I also think it will be more than a single roll. I think 1 to spot the right place to do it, then a second to Secure the line, perhaps a third to hide the line and yourselvs so as not to give the game up before they hit the mark. How does all that sound?
Totally fair.
The scale of possibilities range from 4 decapitated minions to 4 minions parked behind the cover of your own bikes shooting at you. With interesting twists always a possibility.
Hmm, Cunning skills aren't Naught's strong point, but if she can use Vigilance to have a good spot pop out at her or Mechanics to properly secure the line, she'll have a decent shot at pulling her weight.
Spotting a good spot would probably be best for Queg since he is driving, but Mechanics works well for the line.
Perhaps you could give us the checks you're looking for to put the plan into action and we can divide them up amongst ourselves? Sounds like Queg is the spotter and Naught's got the placement/securing. Do we want Larik to camouflage the line? Will it help? Is there something else that would be more useful? Do we want someone out in the open for them to see and lead them into the trap? These are all just thoughts that are popping in my head.
Like i said you tell me what you want to do, i was just throwing out ideas. here is a plan if you want me to give it to you, but feel free to change it up.
Spotting a good "choke" point:
- Easy Perception or Vigilance, Upgraded twice for the speed things are moving and risk in getting it wrong
Securing the line:
- Average Mechanics or Skulduggery, 2 setback for the crumbling walls, this could be affected by the first roll.
Concealing or disguising the cord (success here basically ensures they hit the line):
- Easy Skulduggery, Survival, Streetwise, Upgraded once for the time pressure, but a boost since there is plenty of dust to cover it in... and a Conflict point
Hiding everyone
- Easy Stealth or Cool, 2 Setback for the big guys and loose surface
Hiding the Truck, or at least getting it far enough away that they dont immediately stop when they round the corner
- Hard Piloting check, upgraded once for the dangers around the area.
Now anyone can do anything, and some could do multiple, I would actually be fine with Naught using her Vigilance and also Mechanics.
I agree that it makes the most sense for Queg to try to spot the ambush spot. Naught's in the back of the truck, so it wouldn't make sense for her, but she can set up the line (though she'll probably try to position it at torso level to "unseat" as opposed to decapitate). She might even serve as bait for the trap. These Krogan seem pretty keen to capture a "Shaman," and they might rush in without checking if they see a chance to capture her.
That "bait" check may be a Deception check? Or possibly Cool? If so i think opposed, but their willpower is 3 making it a Hard check, seems high for this situation where they are quite 'eager' to catch you. Ill call it an Average, Upgraded due to their overzealous nature, but a Boost as well since they are recklessly excited.
I was thinking more along the lines of Cool representing Naught maintaining a calm and placid demeanor while standing out in the open. It's less trying to fool them into thinking it isn't a trap and more being so juicy a target that they can't resist. Since they need to get into Short range to use any stun weapons, all Naught has to do is stand firm a suitable distance behind the hidden cable.
As an aside, it just sank in that with Lama gone, Naught is the go-to person in the group for Intellect checks. That's a pretty good incentive to leave the force powers alone for a bit.
I do wish there was an Enhance for Intellect, But that was covered by Intuitive Improvements in Artisan.
I have a decent Streetwise, plus Street Smarts (removes setback). I could also volunteer to be the bait. Go around a corner, set up a clothesline, let off a grenade as if we had crashed, I'll run away from the clothesline. What could go wrong?
I'm signing off for the night, but I think I've outlined a general picture of what Naught will do to make this plan work. Assuming the situation or the plan doesn't radically change and you folks want to keep things moving, I'm comfortable having someone else roll for Naught.
Assuming there were no floating Boost or Setback
Never any good parking spots (Perception) : 2eP+1eD+1eC 1 success, 2 threat
I think it's cinematic to take strain from those threat, since Queg is unfamiliar with the vehicle and streets. But it's equally cinematic that he found a good spot, but clips the building where the wire will be set up, adding a Setback to the next Ally check
I like that, it works well. But you have a good spot, the corner isn't too sharp so they won't slow too much, but there's plenty of space to move the truck into and good anchor points for the wire.
So strain or Setback? Your choice
Setback, clipping the wall or stopping further from the perfect spot than you would have liked. Either way it's harder for the others thanks to your driving.
Out of curiosity, and not to be annoying, but did anyone look at the opening crawl I linked?
Yep, sounds very interesting. I'm assuming the PC's are the characters who where in stasis?
I checked it out briefly. I'll give it another look and PM you thoughts.
Larik will work on disguising the line while it's being placed to save time. Rather than a pilot check to hide the truck, what if Naught used move on it to push it over and we detonate it with a grenade to fake a crash like Whafrog suggested? That might cause even more of a distraction for them. Combine that with Naught acting as bait and we should be able to pull this off.
Maybe to set the line Naught and Lalam can do some sort of hybrid mechanics/streetwise check. Or one makes a Mechanics, the other makes a streetwise and the combined total of successes, failures, etc. determine the outcome? That's a little off the wall I realize.
Is deception an acceptable skill to mask the line?
@Richard: Yes! And the basic idea is that they're escapees from the Great Jedi Library on Ossus from when the planet was scourged during the Great Sith War when Exar Kun and Ulic Qel-Droma detonated the Cron Cluster. Their ship, departing too late, was damaged by radiation and debris from the cluster and crashed on Ossus's moon Nerit. The characters enter cryo chambers to save themselves, but aren't awakened until almost 4000 years later. Degeneration of the computer's memory core causes them to lose all memory of their past lives and experience.
