Too many squadrons?

By Crabbok, in Star Wars: Armada

Would you rather the next wave have the standard 4 ships, and include a squadron pack or two.... or would you rather than instead of a squadron pack, they just give us a PURE SHIPS expansion? maybe 3 Imperial ships and 2 rebels ships to even things up?

I want my Z95, E-wing and K-wing's

And more ships for both sides.

So my general wish is:

1 Reb Squadron pack

3 Reb ships

1 Imp Squadron pack

3 Imp ships

A Shuttle/Assault transport - squadron pack that both sides can use. (Boarding assault  )

And at least one or two ships more that both sides can use.

(Which a third or fourth faction also can use, in the far, far distant future, in a galaxy far away ;) )

More unique squadron cards to the existing squadrons from Wave 1 and 2

More Title cards to the existing ships from Wave 1 and 2

New usefull upgrade cards, that are not to overpowered, but which would be fun to use.

New Mission cards, that envolves Convoys, planetary assault or the like.

Sorry for my ranting, but once those Ewoks gets that snowball rolling, they are hard to stop :P

I have to wonder how many more squads they can make and should make. I mean other than digging into the EU again, we have all the fighters and then some from the movies.

Do we need K-Wings, E-Wings, Tie Punishers and Tie Defenders? I mean some of those wouldn't be bad, but I'm not sure they're needed. Plus I worry about the power level of the squads. It's a fine like to walk. Too weak and they're pointless which is bad, but too powerful is just as bad. Although with a hard cap on how many squads you can have too powerful can only be so bad.

But even then I'd not want to see the meta where the first thing you do is buy 134 points of fighters then pick ships at random because they don't matter.

Myself I think if I had to chose between a fighter pack and a 5th ship, I'd rather see another ship.

With the limited different stats available to squadrons and the narrow range for each stat, I would rather like to see only a single squadron pack per wave, may be even a mixed squadron pack like the r&v one.

More...just...more.

...but not TOO fast.

Ship only release is fine by me. They could make 2 rebel and 2 imperial ships, and then a dreadnought which would have a reversible rebel/imperial cardboard base, rather than the usual A/B option.

I'd prefer that they hold off on the squadrons for wave 3. As it is, each faction currently has access to 8 different generic squadrons and 9 different character ace squadrons. That's a huge amount compared to the 4 different ships (each with two variants) available to Imperials and 5 ships available to Rebels.

It's not a perfect comparison, mind you, given that ships can be upgraded in numerous different ways and squadrons cannot, but the point is that diversity amongst squadron builds is currently pretty huge but amongst capital ships is acceptable but not really vast just yet.

I wouldn't mind if they put a wave 1 squadron in a ship pack.

I need some more A-wings, but if I buy one more wave 1 squadron pack, i'll end up with more X-wing that I can use in a 400point game.

So a GR75 with a one or two A-wing sqds or Z95 sqds. would be very fine for me ^_^

I also think that it's time to back up from squadrons a bit. There is so much more squadron diversity than ship diversity in the game right now. Plus, squadrons are so much more limited in their stats that too many more will either become a bit redundant, with stats and abilities too similar to existing squadrons, or they will have to really push the boundary with new keyword abilities, which I don't want to see happen too much or often. Lets get a wave or two with only new ships and let the squadrons be for a bit.

This time around I'd like to see more ships. This is a capital ship game. We have plenty of squadrons to be going on with. Only squadrons I may like to see would be the Lambda Class Shuttle and the Decimator.

If we where to stick only to the ships seen on screen in the OT.

Then the list would be rather short (or big depending on the point of view).

Imp Lampda shuttle

Tector class SD

SSD

Reb Lampda shuttle

Liberty MC80

Wingless Liberty MC80

GR75

But then the Rebs would be two ships ahead of the Imps. Nooooooh!!! :o

I discount the Reb convoy transport ships seen in the background at the end of ESB.

at least one pack of squadrons. I want TIE DEFENDERS!

I like the squadron balance right now, we don't need to add any more fighters as some would just tip the balance...plus we have to think of synergy with the existing stuff.

If anything the capital ships need to be filled out more.

I love the idea of giving love to older ships with new title cards or even new specific upgrades. I would love to see a unique turbolaser, or ion, or torpedo that only X ship can take. (Like a title, but not a title) Unique crew or this that and the other. But I do like the format of having ships and squads with each wave.

See defenders I could get on board with, considering they would be the Empire's balance to the B-wing....which in all honesty is what they were in just about every way.

Personally we need a few ships to make this game more diverse: Dreadnaught (with faction cards for both sides), Winged Mon Cal, GR75 and most likely a star destroyer to combat the Mon Cal...like the Venator.

Tector would be a basic copy of the ISD it brings nothing really new to the party.

A ship only release would be interesting. Say 3 ships per side. Then wave 4 have rebel and imperial squadron packs. Wave 5 another sort of single rogues and villains pack. Then wave 6 another no fighter wave. Otherwise it'll be a case of rubbish EU fighters of weird designs etc... And they may run out of things.

I would agree that we don't need any more squadrons at the moment but I would like to see stuff like the Lamda shuttle be included in wave three. Maybe FFG could release a pack for each faction which has a small ships and a couple of 'squadron'. Therefore the Rebels would get the GR-75 Transport while the Empire get the Assault Carrier. They could call them 'support packs' with the ships and squadrons geared towards offering buffs to other ships/squadrons in the fleet. Then if FFG do a wave four and five they can start adding in other fighter/bomber squadons like the E-Wing, TIE Phantom, K-wing, TIE Defender etc

Dreadnaught (with faction cards for both sides)

oh...I like that idea.

I NEED Tie Phantoms and Defenders. I will not accept Armada life without them.

Though I also think Imps should get 1 ship more than Rebels to balance things out.

Dreadnaught (with faction cards for both sides)

oh...I like that idea.

Indeed.

I'd also like to see an Imperial version of the Nebulon B as I'm pretty sure it's used by the Empire as well as the Rebellion.

Rebels - MC80 Liberty Cruiser, Dreadnought, GR-75 support pack

Imperials - Interdictor Cruiser, Dreadnought, Nebulon B, Imperial Assault Carrier support pack

I NEED Tie Phantoms and Defenders.

I'll honestly be shocked to see Phantoms. It took a ton of work to get them to work well in X-Wing, including a nerf after the fact.

Not sure how they could do it in Armada, short of giving all Phantoms scatter or something.

Despite being a squadron guy, I think we're fine on squadrons for a wave. We have a lot of squadrons to work with already. FFG should concentrate on increasing ship diversity a little more before giving us EU squadrons. I will be utterly amazed if the Liberty is not in wave 3.

I'd also like to see an Imperial version of the Nebulon B as I'm pretty sure it's used by the Empire as well as the Rebellion.

Actually the Neb- B was made by the Kuat Drive Yards a major ship builder for the Empire.

To combat the increasing threat that rebel starfighters posed against imperial convoys.

That some defected, where captured or otherwise ended up in Rebel service was just bad luck for the Empire.

I think that a squadless wave or two would be fantastic. No need to cloud up a ship game with squadrons. That being said, ships to utilize squadrons in different ways would be fun. I'm a big believer that we will see pure carriers eventually.

I'd also like to see dual faction ships. Nebs, Dreadnaughts, ect where applicable.
