Why no Juno Eclipse

By LordBlades, in X-Wing

Juno, Veteran Instincts and Accuracy Corrector was my winning build in a local escalation tournament, although I did fly her alongside Vader.

I personally tend to value movement abilities higher than most, and Juno really works for me. In particular, she reduces one of the biggest weaknesses of high-PS pilots, the risk of being blocked - chances are with her you can adjust to avoid the blocker. Accuracy correcter gives her some punch without spending an action, and also when k-turning, something you want to do with her fairly frequently because she doesn't have boost.

She's probably have issues killing Soontir Fel or similar - but at PS 10 she can actually out-maneuver him reasonably well.

Vader's using autoaim! CHEATER!

Anyone ever try Advanced Sensors on a VI Juno? Losing a lot of offense but the shenanigans! Slippery little minx she would be.

Oddly enough, I was just thinking sensor jammer. Not sure it would work but that free defensive trick would add annoyance.

It's a perfectly legal 3 point System Upgrade called Accuracy Corrector.

ive been running Juno: Juke + AC and at 30 points she is quite the value.

Taking an evade action every turn increases defense but offense as well makes her quite the force to be reckoned with. She isnt as splashy/spikey as Vader with ATC. She fills a very different roll. She is a grinder. Stay at Range 2 (or even 3) with those 1 maneuvers and constantly plink away. 3(4) green dice + an evade token makes her a pretty tough nut to crack. Also you would be surprised how amazing Juke is even with out an enabler like Carnor Jax.

Why put the MKII on Juno if you run her? Yes, it does allow you to set the 2 bank and have access to all banks while leaving them green but unless you need that 3 bank green you already have the choice between 1 and 2 as green or any bank as white.

well if you have the extra point and you dont really care about the initiative bid (with PS8 mehhh ) giving her all green banks is surprisingly nice. 10 Green maneuvers is a lot.... Makes you less predictable against any type of stress inducing list.

I feel like Vader without EU flies like a duck. (Still better than a pig). Whereas Juno has phantom like movement fixing at a weaker level. Is less prone to blocks and is just in general awesome.

Her pluses are: at 30 points she's a very useful second ace. And the above movement ease.

Her cons are: she will die. Not that sturdy, but sturdy enough to take a TL IMO. She doesn't get auto thrusters and we have too many turrets still ATM.

*this is far too much fun. Perhaps I should start a weekly forum topic pitting two cannon pilots against one another. lol

Who should we do next? I pick Garven for 'Best Squadron Leader'!

This begs the question: Is Vader under-costed? I think maybe a little because is there any other ship I would take at his price point? No, not really. Vader with Title and ATC or a generic Defender? Vader. Naked Bounty Hunter or Vader? Vader. Fel or Vader? No wrong answer.

Dear (pick your deity of choice) NO!!! Vader has finally been placed where he belongs. He IS the best pilot in the game. No one in the Star Wars universe can hold a candle to Vader.

Those of us that have been with the forum for a few years (pre-Raider) are crying right now...

I can't hear your tears over the sound of Wedge Antilles blowing up the deathstar

Vader doesn't care about the coward that ran away from him the only time they met in battle.

Remind me how that battle ended for the 'great' Vader?

What a legendary pilot. He shoots down ships that can't maneuver from behind while they have no chance of fighting back. Can't even nail a farmboy nobody who's never been in an X-Wing before, and then gets rammed by his own pilots.

Meanwhile, Wedge is the first one into the Death Star II, blows it up, and is back in time for tea.

PS this is part of the reason I'm still hoping for another T-65 Fix. Wedge vs Vader is no contest ATM.

And again... only reason Wedge survived is Vader wasn't shooting at him.

As you said, only his son seems to give him problems. I would argue it was not Wedge that blew up the second Death Star, but Luke (again) via keeping Vader out of the fight. Other wise....

VADER KNOWS R2D2 is flying the xwing. Vader aims and hits a hidden R2 unit off of an xwing without damaging the pilot -HIS SON. It's just about as amazing a shot as a proton torpedo making a 90degree turn... Vader knows R2 is the real threat there; it's just too bad R2 turned the targeting computer back on before Vader got him.

Also, Vader's personal tie advanced has a really fidgeting targeting computer. Did you see how many dial adjustments he has to make? It's amazing he can hit anything at all. It's a good thing he has two actions.

That was what I was thinking. In another thread someone complained that the TIE Adv. Advanced did not have enough green maneuvers. Is there really no upgrade that takes advantage of Juno Eclipse's doubled amount of green moves? AS is the first one that comes to mind, maybe combined with, say, Daredevil or PtL.

In any case, it would seem that Juno Eclipse is less sensitive to stress than Vader, which might be an advantage if you know you're going to be facing certain lists.

I think if I were playing Juno with Adv. S, I would put predator or lone wolf on her to give her some action economy.

It just occurred to be that Vader shot his BFF R2. With a starship laser.

Thats one evil dude.

I won a recent Winter championship flying both Vader AND Juno with Palpatine. If Vader goes down you lose a lot of firepower, but the list is defensive enough that it doesn't happen often if you don't make any mistakes maneuvering.

Vader

- VI

- EU

- ATC

Juno

- PtL

- TIE MkII

- Prockets

- Sensor Jammer

Palpshuttle w/ Enhanced Scopes (which will change to Electronic Baffle as soon as it's released).

Went 4-0 with it, Juno is an absolutely brutal Procket platform and many people ignore her in favor of Vader or Palpatine. TLTs and swarms hate her Sensor Jammer and Evade action.

Nah. Vader knew he didn't have to kill him; just wound him enough that he couldn't pilot for Luke.

Vader knows that a single laser blast isn't going to kill R2-D2. That droid is indestructible.

I tried Juno with a few different load outs to mild success. Last time I played her she was absolutely worthless with PTL + AC + MkII for me...some pilot error... some bad match up... lots of bad dice... left a taste so bad in my mouth that I havn't gone back.

That's a real convenient set of comparisons - the Defender and Imp Firespray, two of the weakest Imperial ships.

No ship is weak if you fly it well. Ask ParaGoomba Slayer about Imperial Boba Fett, or ask Biophysical about Defenders. It can work if you learn the ins and outs of the ship.

...

Except the Scyk. Even then, it may finally find a home when the Tractor Beam is released.

Tansarii's with Ptl, HLC, and Stealth device are quite mean in epic games. If your opponent ignores them they get a focus and TL'd hlc to the face every turn. If they try and kill them they have four green dice with focus and evade to get through. I've won games where people decided to ignore them on the easier to kill ships.

As for Juno, she's rapidly becoming my favorite pilot. Just won a winter kit tournament with her, and going to take her in my store championship list I think. I prefer Juno to Vader; it's just that she's a pilot's pilot. She takes a lot of skill and proper visualizing to use properly.

I use Juno all the time because I think flying Vader is cliche.

X-wing: Hipster squadron?

Sign me and my defenders up.

You can't see it but I'm giving you a pretty evul look right now.

Hey man, I'm sad the Defender is about to be the bee's knees as well. I'll miss being the only guy who would play them.

Well, they also happen to be the only ships at the same point cost. I'm not going to compare him to a TIE Fighter or Decimator.
