Not Wave 3 speculation, but a thought on how a ship might change things up a bit.

By Englishpete, in Star Wars: Armada

Whether we get the Liberty in wave 3 or not, who knows, but it would bring an interesting change/alternate to rebel tactics.

Most of the Liberty's firepower was to the front and would give the rebels something to do other than fly in circles...

I could see firepower in line with the MC-80's side arcs only forward facing with side arcs in line with the current AF MkII.

I would envisage the front arc being less wide than an ISD though.

This would synergise nicely with the MC-30 and Neb-B whilst providing tactical options.

In a similar vein, a medium Empire ship that can deliver a broadside might be interesting as well.

Just a thought on how FFG might change things up.

A great counter to the Liberty....

Most custom cards I've seen would have black dice in the front with red and blue on the flanks to represent the main battery...it would give the Empire a brawler that would be really interesting.

Plus with expanded hanger bays, it's squadron command would be unmatched!

I think a solid Empire broadside would be good, maybe 2 blue, 3 red, 6 hull, 3 shields all around. 2 black to the front, 1 blue to the rear similar upgrades to a VSD. 80 points maybe?

If the empire gets a strong broadside ship, it's going to have amazing flank support for the ISDs. A single ISD with two Broadside ships to protect it's rear and flanks would looks awesome going to the playmat.

Would a Venator class SD with options to play as both rebel and empire work? I'm thinking one card (for Rebels) that reflects their deployment and service in the Old Republic (even though it doesn't fit into the "Rebellion/Empire" timeframe, it would represent them as "The Good Guys") and another card to reflect their aging service in the newly formed Galactic Empire. (ie, the "Bad Guys")

It would be cool to have a couple ships that be used with either faction, I think.

If Liberty is released with forward guns, the Rebels can do the same...

Galactic Empire. (ie, the "Bad Guys")

I'm afraid I cannot allow you to impugn the Empire in such a way. A unit of Stormtroopers has been dispatched to reeducate you on the virtues of the Empire. Please cooperate with them when they arrive.

At most I think the dreadnaught would be a rebel/imperial ship. The Venator is a large enough ship to not suddenly go missing/abandoned and fall into the service of the Alliance. Besides the fact to crew it would be hard for the pre-mon cal alliance to do...they had to basically rebuild the dreadnaught to use them.

If anything it would be an Imperial only ship with lesser hull than the Victory, but geared heavily towards being a star fighter carrier with impressive (for it's size) flank batteries. Black dice would be in the front due to the proton torpedo tubes.

In fact...taking expanded armament on a Venator would be very worth while.

Hrm...I see it more as a legacy fleet ship in the service of Star Systems that remained loyal to the Old Republic once the civil war had commenced, and as such "lend" them periodically (as well as their commanding officers) to the Rebel Alliance.

Either way, I really hope they make that ship for Armada. Its probably the best thing to come out of the prequels.

I can see the liberty being a more forward firing ship for the rebels, but in a different way to the imps.

Instead of the broad front an rear arcs, the liberty could have slightly less powerfull side arc batteries to the MC80 (Lets say 2 R 3 B), but the arcs skewed forward so that the forward arc is VERY narrow, to the point that you should be able to get both side arcs on a target in front. the VERY narrow front arc could be (2R) there so that if you cant get double side arc you dont have the same effect front a Front/side double arc (particularly if you are acbaring, a double side shot would be 8R6B)

The rear arc would also be wide like a Star destroyer to represent the more promenant engines and less evenly spaced weaponry. lets say 1R 2B)
