Carnor Jax loadout in a list without Palpatine?

By Taiowaa, in X-Wing

Hey just as the topic says if you are playing Carnor without the emperor should i still fly him with stealth device or prefer the hull upgrade?

Stealth Device; you want to be giving Autothrusters and your tokens as many dice to work on as possible.

PTL, Thrusters and Stealth.

Or, VI, Thrusters and Hull (to combat aces)

- are my go-to builds, for the master of disaster, King Jax.

I usually go Shield Upgrade. In my experience, the Stealth Device helps against squads you're already powerful against, and it's going to crack eventually. Shield Upgrade helps against the inevitable Darth Vader crew, and so does Hull Upgrade, to a lesser extent. I usually try to free up that extra point for Shield, though.

After playing interceptors for so long, Hull > SD. Like what was mentioned above, there is so much auto damage in this game, things that are meant to hunt down interceptors won't care about that extra die. Now the HU usually throws people off because after that third damage and you are still up, their plans get distorted.

SD is stronger if you can modify your dice; if you go that way, you probably want PtL, Autothrusters, or both. That said, I would still recommend it over Hull unless you're going up against a lot of Vader crew; the extra die really helps in matchups with high attack dice (like brobots).

The builds mentioned above are the best performing for me as well. That said I'm kinda partial to VI in place of PtL. I also really enjoy flying carnor with PtL, At, stealth, targeting computer.

3 mods on one interceptor?

or you just like those mods on Carnor?

PTL, thrusters, stealth: all day, every day. With his ability you can potentially negate the dice modifications of anyone shooting at you, which means you want to maximize your own.

Two separate builds. One is ps10, AT stealth. The other is PtL, AT, TP.

That is why I like TP on jax actually. Its a little more risky than having the 4th green dice however, your negating their offensive ouput at R1 while the TL pushes much more damage through. Its slightly more slow roll but very lethal when he does engage. Makes me wonder if I shouldn't test out predator here actually.

Your question led me to think about my favorite Jax build:

Jax+Title+PTL+AT+SD

Zertik+Title+VI+ATC

Omega Leader+Juke+Comm Relay

Academy

That's 3 PS 8 aces that all shut down your target! The Academy is there to block and set up those juicy R1 shots.

My preferred Jax loadout is PTL, Hull, ATs without Palp. There's too much at this point that has no problem breaking SD and Jax often wants to be in R1.

I've not flown him without Palpatine in the list, but I've been going with VI, Title, Autothrusters, Shield. Without Palp I'd be more tempted to go PTL and Stealth instead.

Mk2 engines give you longer reach at a low low price,to offset the PtL.

Targeting Computer when with Ves.

There's more than one way to skin a cat. Find what works for you.

Interesting. My experience is that Palp makes stealth device much more effective and that without him it is much harder to protect on Jax.

I've been meaning to try it with Stealth instead of Shield, but haven't had a chance to get in any non-tournament games for a few weeks to test it.

Definitely the more expensive and safer options:

PTL for double actions.

Auto

Shield: a lot of people like stealth but I find it fails too often. And you don't care if Carnor loses one or two health. You just don't want to lose 4. Whereas stealth if it fails you usually end up with a direct hit or 2 damage and you're almost dead anyway.

Also shield cuz so many Crits around now.

And shield cuz it always works. Even when blocked.

PTL, Autothrusters, Stealth.

VI is useful, but dangerous: if you're moving poorly, you only have one re-positioning action to get out of danger, and you can't turtle. I use VI only when I'm flying with Palpatine.

Hull/Shield were both better than Stealth prior to the advent of Autothrusters. After Autothrusters, the number of dice rolled on defense became very important: with three green dice, Autothrusters provide a benefit approximately 75% of the time. With four green dice, that goes up to approximately 86% of the time. With five, it goes up to 90%.

In addition, four green dice in conjunction with an evade token gives you a legitimately decent chance to slough off a full four-hit Range 1 or HLC shot. With focus, it even gives you a not-insignificant chance to dodge a Homing Missile (and if they aren't coming back yet in your meta, just wait). That's really valuable.

So: PTL, Autothrusters, Stealth.
