Modelling- airbrush and 'dem panel lines

By DUR, in Star Wars: Armada

Anyone else find the panels a wee bit too small to try traditional fade techniques via airbrush?

Any alternatives? Right now, I use a zenithal base-coat and then copic markers + q-tips/thumb to try to blend, but it's still a bit stark from what I'm looking for (testor's camo gray base dusted straight onto the FFG scheme). I can't get washes to look not-like a watercolor painting.

I've also tried using grey weathering pigment- this one's hit or miss for me, but the annoying thing is that the pigments either rub off eventually or sealing them kills the effect.

Depends on the air brush...I do 15mm and recently came to realize that the higher quality in air brush makes life looooooads easier.

Iwata or nothing mate.
