TMNT Descent/Imperial Assault

By Sithborg, in X-Wing Off-Topic

The flames must be really high after that... I actually dropped my pledge. I spoke to the friend I would've spent the most time playing it and he said 'oh turtles... neat I guess.'

Between that and not knowing the cost of shipping I decided I'd be better off spending my money on more IA expansions.

There seems to be a lot of bouncing back and forth over which pledge is the most worth it. Not quite sure what their release schedule will be like, but waiting for Bebop, Rocksteady, and Dark Leo in the City Fall Expansion is a fine option.

As far as retail - I was referring to the initial game, before some of the stretch goals had unlocked stuff. originally it looked to have been 4 turtles, like 3 bosses, and a handful of other baddies. Since then, several bad guy "tokens" have been upgraded to miniatures.

Still though, Consider Zombicide. Depending on which box you get like 60+ miniatures, and the core game is 89, but you can get it for 62 at coolstuff. So I figure around a dollar a mini after sale price. If this game wants to appear to have a good value, it's gonna need to have a ton more minis. Giving every character their own custom dice is simply a waste, especially when the each look virtually the same. Every DIE should just have a WILD side and that WILD gets referenced on their player card.

Either way, Saw some tweeted pictures of the TMNT Heroclix today, and they're likely going to be a fraction of the price, so I'll probably end up just getting those instead and making custom cards for zombicide or something. Much cheaper.

Early Bird slot opening up soon... if you want it PM me.

I don't think you can compare the two. After all Imperial Assault only had 34 miniatures in it, and that is MSRP $99, $68 online.

I did have a fun argument with someone on Facebook about Imperial Assault's value. Didn't seem to get my point that IA's online value is not going to remain at that price forever. And that betting on online discounts seems like a bad idea at this point in time.

I very much WANT to be interested in this... I've been a fan of TMNT since I was a kid.

I could almost do the base pledge, I just wish the extra $60 for the works had more content to make it worthwhile.

I like the Eastman turtles better, but... I don't need all the lithographs, I don't even LIKE the works box... Splinter and the Mousers are cool, but I don't know if I care about Bebop and Rock...

I've been spoiled by Zombicide and how they just keep pouring on cool, functional extras.

I agree with the works having too much art I wouldn't care about, but the extra characters are nice. There should have been a middle tier without the art but with the game upgrades.

But then I watched some of the playthrough and it just didn't hold my interest. Why did the turtles cross the road? To complete their win condition objective. It definitely felt like a 2 player game being managed by 5. Turtle players could either discuss strategy and give away their tactics to the villain player, or keep secret and hope their teammates do something beneficial. And the first turtle player has a long wait until his second turn. I'd always want to be the villain just to have something to do.

I backed Joking Hazard instead. That game looks like a ton of fun and easy to play casually with friends. Still keeping an eye on this but barring a major revelation it won't be on my game shelf.

I dunno, Joking Hazard is too blatantly a ripoff of Cards Against Humanity for me.

Well, I finally backed it, snagging an Early Bird.

Not as bad as Crabs Adjust Humidity! Lol.

Still, I'm really considering JH. I love CAH, so something similar with a bit of familiarity would be good because we don't have that solid of a playerbase. Everyone knows CAH, and everyone sees C&H everywhere, so mixing the two would be great.

I backed The Oatmeal's Exploding Kittens when it started, too. Can't help but feel C&H kinda stole the idea after seeing their crazy success, but I don't really care. More games is more games.

Exploding Kittens is excellent for a quick warm up game. I backed that too.

CAH can leave you with a hand full of lame cards. JH fixes that both with their rules and inherently as the pictures will more easily fit with each other where you could be stuck with a hand full of lame personalities all game in CAH. They are similar in game flow but worlds apart in content.

And the best part about the kickstarter: the JH stretch goals aren't based on money value.

TMNT is pushing it to get those human BB&RS and no way they'll unlock the new shredder sculpt. For JH, backers just need to crowd source wacky stunts to get more cards.

Eh, looks like we got the Shredder sculpt, fairly easily too. I look forward to getting my stuff eventually.

The pledge manager is live if you want to late pledge.

Got my Works. Good lord, is the Works box big. Bigger than the Imperial Assault base set. I am quite impressed with the components. Only complaint is that mine got mispacked, and got 2 IDW Donnie minis and missing my Splinter mini.

Can't wait for the City Fall expansion.

I'm really interested in how the game plays, i watched the Kickstarter but 150 + shipping (i prefer the look of the Eastman Turtles to the IDW ones) was too much at that time, but i really hate that they made BeBob and Rocksteady KS exclusive, i think such iconic villains should be available for all, that was also i thing i hated on the Ghostbusters KS so many minis and maps/missions related to the movies were KS exclusives, that is why i have never bought it although i'm a huge GB fan.

Well, if it makes you feel better, they sort of rushed to add Bebop and Rocksteady to the game. They are kind of following the IDW comic series, so they were always planned to be added in the first expansion, City Fall, where they showed up in the comic. As it is, they are used as either alternate sculpts (the human versions) or you spend some of your resources to upgrade a minion into them, with their different stats and ability. But you are right, IDW probably should've included them in the base tier. Only the sculpts (and probably their stats as enhanced minions) will be KS exclusive.

I really like the mechanics. The dice sharing between the characters really adds a great co-op feeling for the hero players. And the card usage for the villain player makes it a different experience. I love the quality of the components. The cardboard for the tiles is nice and thick, thicker than what FFG uses. The dice are great. The mini comics for the missions are great, and I kind of like how simple it is set up. While the Turtles are of course the main draw, I can't wait to get a wider variety of heroes to play as (come on Nobody and the Mutanimals!!!).

If Bebop and Rocksteady are your main thing, feel free to wait for City Fall next year. Or pick up the base game when it releases. And add on the hero packs, as I think April is already being solicited. Most of the content will be made available later for retail.
