Shards of Everdark H&M Pack announced!

By Zaltyre, in Descent: Journeys in the Dark

I hope they add news products in the production line. Now its only Chains that Rust until the end of the year and nothing more :(

The end is near, brace yourselfs for Descent 3.0

Well, I think atm, I'm fine with Descent news. Maybe in a couple months (FFG terms = at the end of the year) I would like to see the next Campaign for RtL but also what monsters are they going to put in the next H&M or how are they going to solve the problem of releasing the last heroes from Descent 1.

I bet in more packs, with only new monsters :P and a new small expansion box for the next year.

I wouldn't be surprised if it was a small box expansion "heroes Only" the opposite of Mists of Bilehall (Overlord-Only).

New campaigns, classes and monsters adds more content than heroes. I don't see a heroes box only, but who's known? ;)

I think it also depends on the community feedback about the hybrid classes. If we like it, we might see some more. If we don't, FFG will probably switch back to normal classes.

@Rugal : How is this "hybrid class" system going to disappoint you ?

Because they are hybrids classes and break the logic and balance archetype, because I was especting new "classical classes", because it's weird to imagine a scout starting out making some heals, and because it was better to do some classes that had in it some "hybrid system" like a druid who could morph into a bear or something and would have been a warrior thing, etc ...

The way it is shown is like to me "we're lacking of ideas, so let's mash the game and break balance to bring fun"

but it's not

I don't see how the hybrid classes break logic or balance? And I like the more versatile approach to classes. Because a warrior that can't heal also doesn't make any sense. Every soldier knows how to treat wounds. In my opinion, it is cool that a character can now do more than one thing and partially/ temporarily replace a character if that character is unavailable (KO or busy elsewhere).

It breaks balance because it will allow strange things that were not meant when the game was made.

For example, imagine a scout as Monk, with the starting equipment and class card of any healer. Nothing bother you ? Fine, it does to me ! Let's take Jain as a Monk with Spiritspeaker. so she could take damage as fatigue and heal herself at all when making a rest action ?

And what about locked heroes, like mages ? Since many of them required Magic or Rune, how is it going to be played then ?

Same for warrior with melee weapon, scout for ranged weapon, etc ...

All of theses are proof to me that thoses hybrids class are only pure chaos since they lack of ideas. And Now, thoses miniatures are, undoubtly, great, but outscaled, is a bit too much for me.

"Hybrids" classes should have been made like they did for heroes : locking to an archetype but offering another gameplay. like Zyla who is more like a scout, Jaes a some sort of battlemage, and other, so classes, should have been the same, like a Paladin class who would be a warrior lock class but with some inner healing propierties, but not mashing all together !

But here is not the topic. I was just saying that because i'm really disapointed in FFG "new stuff". Hybrids classes, outscaling miniatures ... wonder the next bad idea....

It breaks balance because it will allow strange things that were not meant when the game was made.

By that logic every new class (and many heroes) added since the base game break balance. Not to mention each new condition...

Yes, with Nature's Bounty she could do that. Any healer can already do that with Cloak of Mists- Jain would just be able to do it without gear.

And what about locked heroes, like mages ? Since many of them required Magic or Rune, how is it going to be played then ?

I can only assume that's going to be worked into the hybrid classes themselves. If you've got a warrior playing as a mage class, he'll likely have skills that let him benefit from ranged/magic weapons.

With all due respect, you've proven nothing about the hybrid classes. You've speculated they're going to be terrible, and then claimed that as evidence they'll be terrible. I choose to have a more positive outlook on the hybrid classes. So far we've only seen the Monk, and I find it both creatively interesting and overall a good omen for the rest of them.

The miniatures, on the other hand, are released- you've got them, you can assess them, you can criticize them on solid ground. I'm not sure why the scale changed for the heroes, either.

To be honest, the quality on them is much better now that they are a bit bigger. Some of the older ones were pretty crappy (especially the faces).

So yeah, the new are better, but I agree that its too bad that they decided to suddenly change it halfway (at least I hope we're only halfway :P ).

Of course- if I took the shards of everdark pack on its own, it's got nice looking miniatures. What's a bit distracting is when Arvel looks like an amazon next to Jain.

It sucks that the scale is different. But aren't these miniatures nicer/crisper/more detailed than the earlier releases? I'm relatively new to Descent and miniatures in general, but when I hear everyone complain that ally Serena has no face, I take it they would prefer more detailed miniatures. When I see a spectacular mini like Nanok, I hear that they want the minis smaller. I would hate to try to please some of the folks on these boards. I got Stewards of the Secret at the same time as Visions of Dawn, and those minis are well in scale to this release. Not sure about Shards of Everdark, but Sir Valadir is pretty big and Ispher is F-ing huge compared to Master Thorn. But they are all insanely well detailed, so I'm going to take pleasure in painting them up and pretending that I'm a half-lizard person with a pet dragon while reveling in the fact that I am NOT at work while I play with my little dolls.

Square size is also an issue when the mini's increase in size. Maybe with a 3rd edition they will change that, or at least it would make sense.

That's a real thing. I don't generally mind the less detailed miniatures (but I don't paint). The only reason the scale change is a bit distracting is the heroes look a little out of place. That also is not a huge concern for me, but I understand why some are more upset about it. And, as stated, the only mini that it really shows for is Arvel- the rest are understandably large heroes.

The problem in the mini scale its not a intentional modification, probaly a error in the production.

I may say that i would not mind a new "Za" Farrow mini. Scale is innapropriate, detailes are terrible and globaly i don't like the mini. So i would suggest that FFG comes out with a pack containing all the missed minis (A bigger "Al" Farrow too) but in a better version . This at a proper price. Why not including in that Pack the familiars and some scenery items (book case, vaults,...).

For every reprint: Open (insert cad program of choice) -> select model -> scale:1.10(?)->enter -> encounter the problem of having the wrong sized moulds.

I was actually coming up with the reason FFG probably won't do this as I was typing it:p

I don't think hybrid classes will be necessarly broken, because you won't have access to the 3XP skills of the class that doesn't correspond with your hero's archetype. So while some scouts that have 5 stamina could really shine as fatigue intensive healers, they will remain relativly weak compared to typical healers, once the 3 XP skills become important/mandatory for the heroes.

Also keep in mind that the monk class doesn't boost ranged or melee weapons, so your scout won't be a strong healer that can also fight well, but rather a scout with relativly low HP that has relativly low fighting capabilities and won't have access to the really strong healer skills.

I guess what I'm trying to say is that these hybrid classes won't outclass healers in their healing capabilities and won't outclass scouts in their movement/utility/ranged fighting capabilities, but rather be jack of all trades and master of none, which I imagine much harder to play successfully than strait classes... but I guess only time will tell.

Not really, they have been getting bigger/better detailed in previous packs too. Sometimes, they look better because they stylized the look instead of going realistic (for example, compare zombies quality/look with the Reanimates).

It's not like this only affects this last pack. So i'm guessing it must be intentional.

I known, but for example, you have better detailed minis (stewards of the secret) but in a regular scale. There's a interesting presentation from the last coolminiornot expo that they explain the issues from production in China. Very informative.

What? Who said that? I couldn't take a better photo, but I see here a lot of detail:

Yeah, some of Lt Serena minis looks close to garbage, same as does the minis form first print of Shadow of Nerekhall, I still don't got that two boxes becouse of that, maybe the reprints will have better castings done on that minis... Its quite sad because Lt Serena is nice character to use overall

Are they regular size? https://www.dropbox.com/s/kkjo092gxogl4pe/2016-06-22%2007.51.11.jpg?dl=0 I think not :)

Nanok's hand is as big as Jain's chest, and Tatianna is just as big as Arvel (if you remove the pelt)

I don't think you can compare Nanok and Jain, they are too different (gender, training based on character bio etc). Jain just looks like a smaller woman in that picture. That is not necessarily a problem, the bows are still the same size so I can buy that. However, the bases looks different, and those should really be the same size for each character.

Yeah but Tatianna is a girl right? :P From Stewards
