First Large Ship

By HistoryGuy, in X-Wing

Firespray for sure. Very fun ship and Boba Fett is Star Wars icon. Fly him with a navigator for a good time.

I assume your casual mostly.

If your planning on tournament play then decimator or lambda but boring all around there.

When I fly Imps (if I am running a large ship), I usually fly a shuttle escorted by fighters. I've only used the Decimator once, and when I fly a firespray it's always in my scum lists. I've never played in a tournament so I guess I gravitate towards the shuttle for aesthetic reasons, but it has proven useful to me as well. Throw a rebel captive on that space cow and dare them to shoot it!

The shuttle is an excellent ship with a huge upside for its cost. It take a lot of practice to fly well but once you make terms with the dial you will start to love it. I find myself putting it into plenty of lists since you can get a nicely kitted shuttle for under 30 points. Put an engine on it and you have helped its biggest downside of maneuverability immensely. It's in my top 5 ships and I don't see it being bumped out any time soon.

Just go to your FLGS, close your eyes and pick one. You won't regret whichever you pick at the end, and If you're invested in the game you'll get everything eventually anyway. Just that one purchase might lead to another purchase sooner ;). My comments on those three in no particular order:

1. Shuttle

Like Fickle said, Omnicron pilot + Vader (A.K.A the doomshuttle) is a very potent build esp against aces and easily fits into your squad since it's cheap. Shuttle is also the rightful mobileā„¢ for palpatine. You can experiment a few interesting builds like Jendon + any ships that could benefit from free target locks (like Tie Adv or Adv prototype), or Yorr + aces that spam stress/need to avoid stress like Soontir or Whisper. It is a slow ship, yes but you can use its weakness as a potent blocker with practice.

2. Slave-1

As imperial, try Boba+Navigator+VI+Engine Upgrade for a slippery large ship. Or you can try Kath Scarlet+Marksmanship+Gunner. Either your enemy get crits or two stress tokens. As scum, Boba is scary accurate without target locks and Emon can slingshot your bombs to surprised opponents. 2 Slave-1 Build and Slave-1 + IG2000 won store championships before so don't get discouraged to try flying one!

3. Decimator

Is a tank. It will not survive in most games, but not before dragging a few ships down with it. Chirraneau with VI, and Engine Upgrade is an arc dodging nightmare for PS9/10 Aces. Your TIEs will complement him well. If you're not in the mood for dodging, let Oicunn command the decimator and ram those fragile aces. Decimator is not that popular now due to TLT lists, but it still packs a punch and buy enough time for your ace to shoot down the opposition.

the shuttle is far more self sufficient than the deci

it comes out the box with Omnicron + Vader, a very potent and cheap combo that can be fit into almost every squad (even a tie swarm; just replace two academies!)

I second this.

Starting at 21 points the lambda can add a lot to any empire squad.

She can be tricky to fly so Id highly recommend looking up Sable Gryphon's Lambda flight school, its a great thread for some tips

It's a bit dated, but still good information: https://community.fantasyflightgames.com/topic/98438-flight-school-lambda-101/

For cards you'll want for other ships, Firespray. Stealth Device and VI are that good, as is Gunner, but the ship is mediocre at best.

For cards you'll use eventually, Shuttle. Fleet Officer in a Bomber Shuttle is going to be sweet AF in a couple of months, and Vader is great, plus Palpshuttle is a thing, as is Doomshuttle.

For a big offense, Decimator, which together with the Phantom can make a very reasonable two-ship list which doesn't need a vast amount of extra stuff added to it to work.
