Numb, Keyan and Stresshog

By Spice Junkee, in X-Wing Squad Lists

Idea behind it is that Numb can auto-ion to try and force an ace into positioning while the Ywing can stress it. 2 out of the 3 ships dont care about getting stressed.

Ten Numb (31)

-Calculation (1)

-Fire Control System (2)

-Ion Cannon (3)

Keyan (29)

-Push the Limit (3)

-FCS (2)

-Twin Linked Turret (6)

-R3-A2 (2)

-BTL-A4 title (0)

Weak against swarms with so many low-agility ships. But thoughts?

I used to fly Keyan a ton. I wish that named B-wings were a bit cheaper and not so much of a liability these days. TLTs simply tear them apart. Its nearly an auto 2 damage every turn. However, they can still be fun to fly.

I don't like PTL especially if you are running FCS too. There are really so many actions a B-wing can do. Your TLs are pretty much taken care of with FCS. That leaves you just focus and barrel rolling as an action. To get Keyan stressed you either have to BR every turn or switch a TL, along with your focus action. He doesn't need a focus for offense if you stress him, so he can use that focus for defense. However, with only 1 agility die you'll end a lot of turns with an unspent focus.

If I am going to run Keyan, I am running Stay on Target and Advanced Sensors. With Stay on Target you can always leave Keyan stressed no matter what maneuver you pick. All you have to do is pick the speed of the maneuver you want, but don't pick the right bearing. Then with Advanced sensors you can either grab a TL or Barrel roll to another position. Then when you reveal your dial you switch it to the maneuver you want to perform. It becomes a red maneuver and he ends up stressed. You can always spend the stress on the attack even if you don't roll focus (thank you Garven ruling). With advanced sensor barrel roll and the hard 1s, he can become almost like a poormans phantom. It really is an excellent knife fighter. I've nearly solo'd a Tie Swarm with him alone. I think he blasted 4 out of the 6 ties. They just could never get more than 1 or 2 arcs on him in the scrum.

Fair point, and if I change to Stay on Target with Advanced Sensors, I'll have the points for E2 and Intelligence Agent, for the higher PS foes

I have used PTL with Jan Ors for the ability to convert the focus to an evade.

Drop Calculation and Ion Cannon on Numb and put Mangler Cannon.

Drop Calculation and Ion Cannon on Numb and put Mangler Cannon.

Ion Cannon + Calculation sacrifices the faceup damage card from the Mangler in favour of a facedown card plus an ion token (which, I would argue is more consistently useful on the basis that sometimes crits have little to no impact but an ion token will always have an impact).

I suppose you do need the focus token which you may not always get, and the mangler guarantees the crit unless you roll all blanks but YMMV.

Personally I'd go mangler too, but I can see the point of Ion + Calc.

I like Manglers on Ten, but with Calc and Ion I can set-up arc-dodgers very well. All they have to do is be in range and *pop*, they take a damage and an ion token. Then stresshog makes sure they take 2 stress. They can't clear it next turn so they're sitting ducks. Just lines up the pins for close-range Ten and Keyan to bash them down next turn.

I played Keyan yesterday with FCS, HLC, PTL and Engine Upgrade. This made him a powerful attacker (4 dice every shot) and an arc dodger.

I paired him with a couple of Gold Squadron Y-Wings with TLT, astromechs and titles and managed to wipe out Echo with 2 Tie Interceptors.

He is a little expensive but this was the first time I flew a B-Wing and I really enjoyed it
