Space Cow and Tournament play

By Hexdot, in X-Wing Rules Questions

I own two Lambdas, one standard plus imperial markings and one custom, painted like a cow and with two tiny horns and a little bell. Of course the bell should be removed but...

The Cow - Lambda could be used in a Tournament play. Not my intention but I am curious. The horns are only 1 ctmr long. She is beautiful...

It could be, technically you're not supposed to change the shape of the model... "They cannot modify the size and shape of a ship model in any way."

But that's sort of up to the discretion of the TO. As long as they're ok with it, then there shouldn't be a problem.

If they do have an issue with it, you would need to use a standard one. So if you only have one shuttle in your list and bring both you should be fine.

As VanorDM mentions the repaint is perfectly legit but the remodel is technically illegal.

So Space Cow cammo is legal, but the horns are not. Ok, thanks a lot. It was simply curiosity.

Another question. If you want add, lets say, a HLC.to a mini carrying it...legal or.not ?

If you want add, lets say, a HLC.to a mini carrying it...legal or.not ?

Again technically any change to the size or shape of the model is not allowed. So that would include putting a weapon like a HLC on it.

But again I think you'd be hard pressed to find a TO who would have an issue with it.

Strict answer: ANYTHING that alters the shape of the model is illegal.

Now, the level of rule enforcement will change depending on which level of tourney you are at.

Store level: TO discretion, unlikely to have player complaint.

... Anything else, and you're likely to run into a player who will complain, possibly just in the hopes of getting you disqualified (if, say, you don't bring a non-modified version of the ship). Don't put yourself in this position (but, if you don't mind bringing two, you can always ask each opponent before the match at higher level events (and store events, since they do follow the same rules).

I generally think minor cosmetic changes aren't really a big deal. Things like changing the Falcon's round scanner dish for a rectangular one, removing the canopy cannon from an E-wing (which let's face it, is an improvement), rotating the cockpit of a B-wing. It would be a pretty extreme TO to rule against these sorts of things. They would still be quite within the tournament rules, but pretty hard-nosed if they did. The rules stated you can't repaint your models in a manner that would be deemed to be offensive to other players. I imagine the same would apply to any modifications the TO allowed. If you had a Hindu opponent that took exception to having to kill your "cow", then you might have to replace it.

As long as it's definitely a Lambda shuttle and everyone looking at it can understand that it's Lambda and not a Decimator, it's fine.

Thanks. I am not a modelist and one of the strongest arguments to buy x wing stuff is, perhaps, that the mounted and painted models are awesome. But sometimes I feel...errrr... creative.

I remember a fur covered Slanesh Land Raider and....brrrr

Can you post a picture of the space cow? Rules aside, if it was ever presented in front of me, I would probably laugh myself silly and congratulate you :P

I'm with folks who say they wouldn't mind. I think it'd be awesome and I'd LOVE to see more mods on the tables.

But I will caution you that our community has rules lawyers. And not everyone flys casually, especially at higher level tournaments. It IS against the rules to mod your ships in ANY way that changes their dimensions (including a teeny, tiny cow bell).

But, yeah, I'd really love to fly against something like that at any point. Just a caution to help avoid future heart break.

Or you can drill tiny 2mm holes, place magnets, paint then white and make MAGNETIZED cow horns and a bell!
