Dumbest Move You Ever Made?

By Boba Rick, in X-Wing

Dumbest move I ever made was doing a S-loop in a joust at a tournament.

I had Iggy-C and was facing Blount and Jake. I thought I was going to be clever and s-loop behind/aside them. Alas, they didn't go quite that fast and I had Iggy turned around in front of them. They had me in arc without worry of return fire.Nt very clever after all.

Edit: I thought of a dumber one.

Another tournament, Boba and Bossk became the victims of two proton bombs. Without thinking, I started to put more cards on Boba while still having full shields. At the end of the round, I noticed. To my defence, it was an epic tournament and had been a long match against 6 TLT y-wings.

Game a few weeks back, game three of four in a tournament and I'm matched against one of the perennial best players in the city. I've never beaten him, but I've unlocked the magic of Bossk and I'm on an incredible hot streak.

Flying Grandmaster B with a pair of GlitterCrack BSAs, opponent has Fel, El Presidente, and a couple of Comms Juke FOs.

I quickly run the table with all three FOs, all of my ships are still at, or close to, full health. Just have to corral Fel for the win, and I see my opportunity. Boosted Bossk to where Fel will bump on the 2 bank (which is what happens!) I blocked Fel!

... But got no shots, because I was over eager and ended up slamming a Khiraxz onto a rock where it couldn't fire. I slow down, I avoid the rock and get a double modified, R2, Crack shot at a defenseless Fel. Instead the Khiraxz already had stunned pilot, then took more damage getting off the rock and died...

I promptly when into panic mode and carelessly let Fel run the board. So close, yet so far away....

Another one (two technically):

In an escalation tournament running interceptor aces (started soontir/doomshuttle round 1, added new interceptors each round after). Round 3 of the tournament, I dial in a k-turn on soontir. Who was stressed, because...soontir. My opponent proceded to fly me off the board because I was an idiot. This left carnor (with like 2hull left I think) against a full hp y-wing and an injured one (both BTL Ion turret as I recall, was before wave 7). Fortunately autothrusters and arc-dodging make it really easy to beat lower PS ships and carnor was able to hang in there and win it for me.

Next game I AGAIN dial in a k-turn on my again-stressed soontir (Hey, I did say I was an idiot). This time my opponent couldn't fly me off the board, but did put me on a rock at range 1 in front of his Kath. Fortunately he blanked out his attack roll and soontir actually survived that one.

Dumbest move I ever made was a 1-bank.

I had an IG-88 chasing two TLT Y-wings around a corner asteroid, and the plan was to bump the closest one and get a range 1 shot on the lead one. But to do that, I needed to execute a 1-straight; the 1-bank instead made me overshoot both, so instead of having a point blank shot with no return fire I had two Y-wings with range 1 shots on my Bot's tail. I've thrown my fair share of games, but that one still stings...

Mine was is a tourney two weeks ago. Had several mistakes. Forgot to assign the Deci a maneuver, took four rounds to get back into the fight. Then had a plan on my decloak for whisper, used Intel, made me think I could sneak around an asteroid, failed. Landed on the roid and took a damage, and was attacked naked getting her to one health. Should've stuck with my original move. Then in the end it was a 4 hull Deci vs zeta leader with two hull. Had the can't assign straight maneuver crit, totally forgot about it 30 seconds later and my opponent sent my illegal move Deci off the board. This was all in the same match. I was not happy. Biggest tourney I had ever played in (25 players), was number one heading into cut and just totally flew myself out of that match.

Buying 3 HWKs :^)

Flew off the board at regionals while facing a friend from my hometown gaming group.

Thought I set a 1-bank with Boba facing the far board edge. Ended up setting a 1-straight by accident.

I check my dials probably four or five times before every maneuver now.

Wednesday night flew vs 5 FOs. My opponent split his forces and I had the 2 FOs all to myself. All I needed to do was a 5 straight followed by a 3K and I would've had them either broadside or been on their 6. Easy, right? My revealed dials were showing a 3 straight! I ended up broadside to his FOs at R1 with 2 of my ships. It was a very short game. I shouldn't be allowed to play after 9:00 pm.

Time was called in a store championship while we were setting dials. He could only shoot my shuttle and I was ahead. I was worried about losing the shuttle, so made a risky move to try to avoid shots. Flew off the board. Afterwords, realized, he didn't have enough red dice to have killed it. Doh.

Has anyone said "started buying x wing stuff" yet?

If not, started buying x wing stuff.

One of my 1st couple of games. Unharmed Jake to do a 4 K turn to get back on on fighting rather than do a big circle! More like lets just fly off the table.

Another one was having a Y wing with Ion turret somehow getting behind him and just giving him the Ion tell he flew off the table.

Has anyone said "started buying x wing stuff" yet?

If not, started buying x wing stuff.

I would not say buying xwing stuff, but a case could be made for overinvesting in early waves, because they'd never actually start releasing all those obscure EU ships, right? Right?

Which way is this TIE fighter heading?
Not paying attention resulted in me flying 1/2 of a swarm off the back edge in the first turn.

Flying Poe, Esege, and Dutch against a Poe with stresshog build, quickly took out the stresshog, getting down to the last couple of turns in the game, he took out dutch, had esege missing a shield and poe at full health, went to turn Esege around to get back in the fight and allow poe to use those focus tokens, when I chose a three bank on the slam, forgetting there was no three turn, ended up with my K-wing about an inch from the boards edge, if I had just focused, in two turns, his Poe would have been caught between Esege and my Poe with no way out. Ended up winning just because my poe was worth two points more. Could have taken third place instead of fourth.

Had a game in my pocket with a full Whisper and Omega Leader vs. a limping Omega Leader who had initiative when I, within one turn, parked Whisper on a rock and slooped OL of the board. game didn't get better afterwards and I lost.

Early in my X-Wing career I managed to three bank Biggs onto an asteroid in turn two; he didn't survive the round.

Later in my X-Wing career I managed to two bank Leebo in front of an asteroid in turn one, somehow forgot the YT-2400 had the barrel roll action, flew him through it in turn two, and he didn't survive the round.

Being relatively new I have had a few howlers so far!

Pulled a bank instead of a turn and flew a full health Etahn off the board just as I was about to win the match so lost instead

Landed on an asteroid with no shields, took damage. Took damage flying off the asteroid next turn and hit third asteroid to kill myself.

and in my very last game I started with ships in a straight line, forgot about their ascending activation order and proceeded to fly all of them in straight lines...starting from the back of the line instead of the front... crash crash crash!

Feeling the fatigue of TOing and playing after 5 hours, I K-turned Chewie right in front of a group of B-wings. I was really proud of myself as I did it. I wasn't sure it was going to fit. Then I realized, once I placed the stress token on the YT, that Chewie has a turret and could have flown behind the B-wings and shot without being shot at....

I was flying 3 imperial aces against fat han. Lost the Phantom but took corran off the board with it first. Darth Vader was dmged but still in the fight. Full health fully upgraded turr fennir laying the dmg down on Han, who had 1 hull left, no r2. So what did I do? Parked a shieldless Vader on a rock, and k turned turr off the board. Han crept up into range 1 and blasted a tokenless Vader >_<

Forgetting that silly enemy PS3 tie advance has prockets on board....

At a tournament, first time facing Carnor Jax. My opponent carefully explained "cannot perform focus or evade actions and cannot spend focus or evade tokens". I promptly forgot the first half of his ability and flew Jake Farrell to range 1 of Jax in firing arc, with the intent to focus and trigger repositioning out of arc for a solid shot. Oops.

Backing the Robotech game kickstarter..

The amount of times I've gotten greedy with rexler and flown onto a rock then blown up by an enemy is quite high.

That would be last night when I forgot my deci had an engine critical making all tight turns red. I forgot, my opponent didnt. Lol made me fly off the edge!! Doh...

Getting together with my wife's girlfriend. And running my brobots onto rocks 4 times and trying to do red moves already stressed 2 times in the same game.
