Damaged Engine

By pocitaces, in X-Wing Rules Questions

So player A has a stressed ship and Damaged engine critical hit card. Can they choose only white maneuvers not covered by Damaged Engine? or because the turn is white and becomes red, they get another stress token and no actions?

If they have a stress they can not choose any red maneuvers which include the sharp turns which are now treated as red due to Damaged Engine.

It's a nasty combo to end up with

If you have a stress token and choose a turn maneuver, Damaged Engine makes it red, so it's time to hand your dial to your opponent. It doesn't matter that you revealed a white turn maneuver, because Damaged Engine has reset that and now the revealed maneuver is red. Your opponent will choose a non-red for you and you won't get another stress token.

Your best option is to try and lose that stress as soon as you can, because Damaged Engine is going to cause you enough grief on it's own.

Thank you for your replies. Yeah, it's a very crimpling to a ship. Depending on the location on the game space, could be a death sentence! Kinda feels like it's too powerful.

Well, they call them "critical" hits for a reason. :)

No, the real killer (assuming you don't daisy chain the 2 major explosions into a direct hit) is Loose Stabilizer (?), the one that gives you a stress token if you perform a white maneuver. In that case, the maneuver stays white, so you don't give your opponent the dial, but it also means you can accumulate stress every turn you don't do a green maneuver. If you only have one stress its not too bad, but if you end up with multiple stress, may as well give up on ever performing actions or red maneuvers again that game.

Did that the other night. Goodbye Guri and the game!

Is this how Loose Stabilizer works? You accumulate stress tokens? We tried playing this game for the first time tonight and it wasn't clear how this card was supposed to work. I wasn't sure if it meant you couldn't even perform a white maneuver while you had a stress token or if you got a stress token if you didn't have one (but wouldn't get one if you already had one), or if you accumulated them...

With a Loose Stabilizer, you get a stress token if you perform a white maneuver. Regardless of how many stress tokens you have when you execute that white maneuver, you gain another one.

(You can't execute a red maneuver while you're stressed, but Loose Stabilizer doesn't out that same restriction on your white maneuvers.)

Welcome to the game!
