Thoerycraft time! "No named pilots"

By FlyingAnchors, in X-Wing Squad Lists

So in about a month, my FLGS is going to host a tournament with the stipulation of no named pilots whatsoever in any list. Titles, crew cards, etc. are all applied normally. In this case what would you take? 8 Tie swarm? 4 TLT Y's? Here is the list I am juggling with flying:

PILOTS

Green Squadron Pilot (24)
A-Wing (19), A-Wing Test Pilot (0), Chardaan Refit (-2), Squad Leader (2), Autothrusters (2), Outmaneuver (3)

Prototype Pilot (17)
A-Wing (17), Chardaan Refit (-2), Autothrusters (2)

Prototype Pilot (15)
A-Wing (17), Chardaan Refit (-2)

Blue Squadron Pilot (22) x 2

I may trade in a blue squadron pilot for an upgrade to green squadron A-wings, and replace squad leader with swarm tactics or something similar, or just take 2 TLT Y's and some X-wings. I am also heavily debating running 5 A-wings.

What do you guys think? What would you run in this type setting. There's also a small chance I would be going against 4 Advanced, how would you prepare for that?

Depends, will the Tractor Beams be available?

In that case:

Bandit

Bandit

Blue, FCS, Tractor Beam

Blue, FCS, Tractor Beam

Gold, R3-A2, BTL-A4, TLT

Start with BGB in the middle (chances are you set your entire list first) and the Z's together off to the side with the least asteroids. Slow roll until you see which way your primary target is headed, swing with the BGB in his direction. Use the Z's to cover the rear or as pincers. Use the B's to drag the prey into range of the Y.

I have no idea if Tractor beams will be in play or not. The tournament is 26th of next month. So unless we get some sweet release dates, I doubt it. But things should be off the boat soon right?

End of March they should be here I think?

I hope.

It's something I'm keeping in mind for end of this month at an SC really.

Crack Shot swarm. All about the Crack Shot swarm.

Tie swarm will rule

Unless you're really good at double seismic charge TLT wardens. Those are a real blast to play ;)

4x Green Squadron pilot

- A-wing Test Pilot

- PTL

- Wingman

- Autothrusters

- Chardaan Refit

mentioned over in the green arrow list. Saw it in a few matches and it did pretty well. In a tournament without named pilots it may be brutal

4x Green Squadron with Refit, AT, Test Pilot, PTL, and Juke. Comes in at 96 points, and us surprisingly nice to fly. You could swap a Juke or two with Wingman to keep the damage up, without losing maneuverability.

There's also the classic BBBBZ.

Its my understanding royal guard pilots are some of the best non named pilots poings can buy. Maybe mix in some ps1 tie-fos.

My store championship was won by 2 warden k-wings with tlt and tactician, stress hog, and a z95.

4 ship rebel is my favorite. I would probably do something like

T-70 X-Wing: Red Squadron Veteran (26)

Predator (3)

R2 Astromech (1)

Integrated Astromech (0)

Y-Wing: Gold Squadron Pilot (18)

Twin Laser Turret (6)

· R3-A2 (2)

BTL-A4 Y-Wing (0)

B-Wing: Blue Squadron Pilot (22)

HWK-290: Rebel Operative (16)

Twin Laser Turret (6)

If I was going into this, I'd probably go the 4x Advanced route, but then that's kind of my jam anyway. 4x AC Tempests with Mk2 engines and Prockets, would be my probable choice. Maybe drop the engines and pick up Clusters instead of Prockets. Alternatively, 4x ATC Storm squadron with Mk2 engines; PS4, survivable, and fairly dangerous.

I'd also be really tempted by 3 Shadow Squadron Phantoms with FCS and ACD. They're PS5, but almost all of what you'll come against will be that or lower (save for VI TPV Scyks or VI RGP Interceptors). At 33 points each, they're actually good value when you know there's no named pilots about.

TAP swarm probably has some legs as and when they are eventually released, especially if the generic is favourably priced enough and has the EPT slot to get Juke and the title in with a reasonable number of models.

Generic TAPs are 16 points with no EPT. Still a bargain, really. 19 points with title and AT, gives you a great little ship with a fantastic dial, with potentially decent damage output. There's 5 points spare for whatever you'd like, too. Thread Tracers on each isn't awful. Prockets or Adv Homing on one, and a two point bid.

I actually like 3 of those 19 point TAPs with a pair of AC Tempests for 99 points. Kind of a bully-and-slap list, with the Tempests drawing the brunt, while the TAPs scoot about picking off the weakened/actionless ships.

I like these a-wings better. You could run 5, but that's really spend your so how about this:

A-Wing: Green Squadron Pilot (19)

Chardaan Refit (-2)

A-Wing Test Pilot (0)

Juke (2)

3 Red Vet T-70s with Predator, Autothrusters, and R2 should do well against a bunch of other generics. This is a format that is likely to have a lot of prime targets for Predator.

You could always dump the Autothrusters and R2 and give them Targeting Astromechs, Integrated Astromechs, and Flechette Torpedoes. The Targeting Astromech has some overlap with Predator but it's mostly there to get the Target Lock for the Flechette Torpedoes once you've K-Turned or T-Rolled behind your target.

The version with IA and Flechette Torpedoes will probably do better against things like B-Wings and Royal Guards while the first list will be stronger against TLT Y-Wings and TLT+Tactician HWKs and K-Wings.
