I'm trying to figure if the extended hilt attachment represents the long-handled lightsaber, or the lightclub. My first reaction is the former, but the description makes me think of the latter. Anybody else have a thought?
Second opinions on the extened hilt
Long handled saber. A lightclub feels like something that would have it's own stats/hilt/ect.
Though it's also possible FFG isn't making a differentiation between the two...
The former. It's a modification to a standard lightsaber to account for a specialized form of combat that grants damage bonuses. To create the latter it would simply be a great saber hilt that accounts for a large sized beings' size, and not a fighting style
I believe the former. I've always felt like the extended hilt turns your blade into a two handed sword.
Edited by Split LightBut seeing that it doesn't include an encumbrance modification (frantically wishing I had my book with me to verify that), isn't the notion that it -greatly- extends the length of the hilt a bit much?
The former. It lets begs the wielder the question: "one hand, or two?"
If you wanted to have the light club or great lightsaber I'd recommend increase damage of installed crystal by 1, encumbrance 2,and cumbersome 3.
Reading the extended hilt description, it says it's frequently used by force users of unusual height and or build to capitalize on their size advantage. So, I guess it can be used for either
If the saber blade is effectively massless, and the energy blade does all the cutting... how does applying greater strength or leverage increase the damage done?
Really it sounds like whatever Gorc had done to his lightsaber.

I go with a mixture of the two. I say it makes the hilt longer, but not longer than a double saber's hilt. I would also say the blade is a little longer, but not so long as to fall into the realm of anime sword design. These two things together add 1 damage, and possibly 1 vicious. And I also think it should make the saber require two hands to wield, like the description implies but the rules section does not specifically require. Doing this, it fits into the realm of "greatsword."
As for the longhandled saber, I'd treat that as a lightsaber pike, which is described as a staff with a lightsaber on the end.
As for the lightclub, aka Gorc's saber, I'd just call it a standard saber with the extended hilt. Albeit since Gorc (or a character that is silhouette 2, which I would say Gorc is) is bigger, I'd allow him to use it one handed normally.
Edited by WerewyvernxWell gosh, ya know what you're right. Sorry about that. Just assumed it was some vague legends reference and didn't check the link.
You'd be surprised how many people think of Dark Forces 2 as a vague thing in Legends.
No harm, no foul.
The long-handle being a pike seems possible.
I wonder, as an alternative, if the extended hilt is just a slightly longer than normal, to better fit a two-handed grip, but still compares in size to a regular lightsaber; similar to Kyle Katarn's third lightsaber, which looks slightly longer than an average hilt. That would leave the long-handle and the lightclub (I seriously prefer the term greatsaber) as possible options in a future book. With as few lightsaber varieties that actually exist in the broader lore, that would leave them a few more they can squeeze into a book.
I think extended hilt as the weapon Darth nihl uses: http://starwars.wikia.com/wiki/Darth_Nihl

Which would be... the long-handled lightsaber.
I agree with the others that the extended hilt generally reflects a long-handled lightsaber.
The greatsaber/lightclub is more often a lightsaber with a longer-than-usual lightsaber blade but with the hilt itself not being that much larger.
As for Darth Nihl's take on a long-handled lightsaber, I figure he just went overboard on the length so that it would better fit with the highly acrobatic fighting style that his species (Nagai) tend to favor. As well as making it look "cooler" than a typical lightsaber, something that seems to be incredibly common with the One Sith in the Legacy Era comics.
It's extended and an upgrade, so it should be obvious that it's larger. Extended Hilt 1 Extended Hilt 2
Both are examples of an extended hilt attachment. These are probably the most pronounced of an extended hilt though. I would guess the extended hilt is typically around 75%-80% of the double-bladed lightsaber's hilt size in comparison. So long enough to be noticeable, but just skating under the Encumbrance 2 threshold.
If the saber blade is effectively massless, and the energy blade does all the cutting... how does applying greater strength or leverage increase the damage done?
I thought the exact same thing when reading the attachment. My conclusion is a wizard did it. ![]()
(Maybe the energy beam is thicker or the longer hilt allow the enerby beam to be more intense?)

Was it... a space wizard?

Well depending on what you are slicing having more leverage would make sense because we know that lightsabers will encounter resistance. But greater strength . . . Yeah, must be space wizards

Or, if you are in a lightsaber duel where this happens...

...it always helps to have a bit of leverage!
