Time for Minor Factions?
Enough outa you Welshie.
I would like them to implement some minor ugly designs for scum, as well as squadron customizations for the three factions.
But, but, I'm short and Scottish as well

Sub factions, no. But a fourth faction of droids would be pretty sweet. Cross over IG-88 to get them started.
I have also always wanted some true Jedi ships, not just pilot cards.
I think the best way to introduce sub factions would be to release an expansion like Most Wanted, called Allies and Aliens. Have the expansion include 2-3 ships, one ship that has "historically" been an ally for each faction with a corresponding sub faction. For example, the 3 ships could be 1) Chiss Clawcraft(of the Chiss Ascendancy - ally of the Empire) 2) Miy'til Fighter( of the Hapes Consortium - ally of the Rebellion/New Republic) and 3) I'm not sure, but I'm sure there is a Scum ship that could work. Anyway how it works is the new ship can be used in a limited fashion by its "parent" faction, but unlimited by its sub faction. Additionally only certain ships of the "parent" faction can be used by the sub faction. For example, in the case of the Chiss Ascendancy, it can use Chiss Clawcraft unlimitedly, but can also use limited amounts of Ties, Tie Interceptors, Lambdas, Gonzatis, and Raiders. No Defenders, Phantoms or Decimators. And no unique "parent faction" characters or only abilities. Or some other combination of ships they can or can't use. So using the new expansion and your existing collection, you could have very different play experiences. Then the 2nd Allies expansion could have cards for the sub faction only for the parent faction ships. Sounds like a great way to expand the game and be very thematic.
No.
That sounds way too complicated Dvorak...
Although I think the sub faction issue has already been resolved as far as ffg cares. After all let's not forget the original "sub-faction" -- the E-wing (wave 4 release I believe) was built for the New Republic (old EU) rather than the Rebel Alliance per se...
I wonder if you can have an upgrade that requires "Pilots named Black Sun"
Mandalorians and Corellians are their own sovereign planets and have their own navies and their own ships. They are in no way Scum.
I'm just gonna leave this right here.

And Yanks. At least you're not kiwis.
Well maybe there could be some synergies, like 'fly 3 or more black sun pilots and increase all pilot skills by one', or 'if you fly three or more rogue squadron members, treat all bank manoeuvers as green'. Maybe one day... When they run out of ideas or the meta gets too big and complicated to implement upgrades that concern all factions.
But they have plenty much of other ideas to thrive on, so I highly doubt they would implement minor factions or something like that anytime soon.
So you mean formations like 40k? I like the concept, but the execution falls short.
Just like others have said, there's nothing stopping anyone from painting and modding their ships to an in-universe theme.
adding Minor Factions would be a great way to water down the three fantastic factions
Fixed.
I could see FFG bringing in sub-factions in a similar way to how Warmahordes does them - by releasing optional cards that limit the ships/upgrades you can use in exchange for a bonus. For example, you could have a "Lothal Rebels" card that only allows you to use ships and pilots that have appeared in the Rebels TV series, but gives you a reduced price on certain upgrades, or a free initiative bid, or a special ability across some or all of your ships.
The key is keeping them optional, so they become one more way to expand the game instead of limiting factions. Obviously it's important to keep them balanced, but that's true with everything they release for the game.
I think it's more likely that we'll see sub-factions like the Resistance and the First Order than whole new factions entering the game, but if the Disney movies continue the Ep VII trend of not being horrible, it's likely that we'll see more and more stuff that FFG can add to the game.
Mandolorians, Hutt, Black Sun, Night sisters or any other petty gang are either a subset of scum, rebellion or empire or empire. They don't have a significant, galactic presence to make up their own faction, certainly not one that can contend with either the rebellion or the empire. Scum, while perhaps an ill term, is a catch all for ALL the factions that don't fall in with the Rebellion or the Empire. This includes defence force's raised by government's.
I think it's cool to give a nod to individual factions within factions, but I don't think it should have any mechanical benefit beyond a nice flavourful name, this is a dog fighting game, not a political simulator.
Republic and Separatists. Short of something truly world changing being in one of the new movies, these are the only new factions we even have a chance of seeing for the next... 5 years? 10 waves?

It is no more complicated than the actual rules for the game. It is just new rules for list building. Instead of just 3 choices to make your list from, you would have 6(or more) to chose from.

Yeah that checks out.
Wouldn't it just be easier to have a few upgrades that allow for more options for certain factions? Like an upgrade that helps out the First Order (maybe FO ship only) or Resistance? A new pilot card for ships can very simply just have the new sub-faction icon on them for identification. Oh wait!

The Minor Factions rules could borrow from Imperial Assault skirmish.
•Concord Dawn Temporary Alliance
Mandalorian
You may include up to 2 Imperial small ships in your squadron.
No thanks. Having stuff be able to be used by everyone has been a source of imbalance in many games. It's an issue in this game with upgrades.
I think you could do generic ship subfactions.
Corsec uses x wings, zs and likely Scyks etc.
Black sun and hut cartel are almost viable as is.
Well after the TFA we do have minor factions. Both Resistance and Rebel Alliance fall under Rebels and Galactic empire and First order fall under Imperials. As for what gameplay function does mini-factions play? So far nothing. It is like the Identity:type in Netrunner, Be it Division, G-mod, megacorp or natural it is just flavor text.
As for Scum & Villainy well that falls under scum but there are both hut and black sun ships in Scum and Villainy. You got for Black Sun the Z-95s the Star Viper, the Kihrax (although it comes in Hutt colors) For Hutt you have the Scyk and well the Kihrax has a Cartel Marauder and comes in Hutt colors. As for the Y-wing well Hired gun is any side. All you have left is the Bounty Hunters.

You've got four generics each and a bunch of named characters, enough to make things work on a casual story based level.

I was referring to the "sub factions can only use certain ships from the main faction" part, the "main faction get's limited use of sub's ships is easy: they just get generics, or they just get uniques, simple either way. How do you denote whether your squad is Imperial vs Chiss? Once you have that figured out, how do you denote which main chips are unavailable to sub? Initially you can just have a list, but that list would need to be updated for every wave...
Don't get me wrong; I like the core of the idea and would love to fly a Nssis Clawcraft (gotta have S-loops and T-rolls and ace Jagged Fel!) or Miy'til (imagine the possibilities with a "Commander" modification and "Storm" title!), but I'm having trouble wrapping my head around how it could be officially implemented. It seems like more of a home-brew setup where you can easily change/add qualifiers as they come up.
