Monday Night Gaming Ep3 Live Tonight

By KrisSherriff, in X-Wing

Hi all,

Almost time for another Monday Night Gaming.

Tonight we will be trying something a new segment where one of the Hosts (Myself in this case) will be trying out an off the wall build or list that we have had sent in and going for a more open mic on the table with more of an emphasis on why the players are making their choices.

Commentary will still be provided ad twitch chat will still be monitored so we can see how this new segment goes.

Other than that we will briefly discuss how the store championship went on Saturday and be bringing you some more X-Wing games with full commentary.

Hope you guys tune in!

Thanks

Kris

I've been spreading the word and plan to tune in. Thanks Kris!

Guys, I don't know if it was because your were up all weekend, or because the overlay failed. But both of you were very negative the whole cast. I mean during the game with the inexperienced player, not really you Kris(However, you did start at the end) but your other host was so mean and negative about the whole game.

Dude if you hate watching people play the game so much, then don't comment. Really, I couldn't watch it anymore, because of the condescending tone you two were using to the players in that game. You treated the inexperienced player like he was dirt, questioning every move he made and correcting him. When you played your first few games, I hope no one treated you like that.

Fly casual that was not. Please watch other announcers and learn from them. They comment, but the best ones always seem to make it interesting. You two acted really unprofessional and when you make the game boring it's becomes boring to those watching. I actually stopped watching because of your sentiment towards the game.

Frankly the TLT games at the end of your SC were way more boring then those games last night. I don't know what it was but it was a very poor performance. You both seemed very grouchy.

P.S. - Get some sex next time before coming on the air please.

A fair and valid criticisms, I was not in a very good mindset for the cast as I had a lot planned to try to raise the bar again and the hardware fail really put me on tilt.

The unfortunate thing for game two was that as I was busy trying to fix the main laptop I don't really pay attention to who the match up was between until it was on the table.

Had I realised what was going on I would have moved the players around to make it a more balanced game. The negativity was more drawn from the other players insistence to treat it like table 1 at worlds not allowing for take backs on actions that the newer player had made when if he had been fully aware of the rules he would not have made those choices. That is not the spirit that we want to cast these exhibition games.

There is a chance that if you turned off you missed a lot of the banter between the players and the casters as we gave each other crap for a lot of the show but that is because we all know each other and get on well. I understand that without the normal introductions and pregame talk that may not of come across.

All in all, I thought it was a terrible show that I am disappointed to have been involved in and I take full responsibility for that.

Kris

I'm just glad you admitted it. Lots of other commentators never admit when it is bad. They get angry and rather than fix the issue, go completely the other way. Only through admission can things truly be fixed and get better.

I understand mismatches happen, and that is fine. But you should have been trying to root for the underdog instead of stepping on him. He was in for a big challenge and that is what needed to be pointed out.

We still love you, and will be back next week.

I must have missed that particular part... my wife needed a massage after her shower, so i missed a large part of one of the games. For having hardware failure and continuing anyway, and for it being your third straight day of casting... I think the show went fairly well. As I expect this to be an ongoing thing, I am sure there are things to learn from it, but be careful of always apologizing to the viewers... just act like things are going better than expected.

That's one thing I learned from my recent foray into the theatre (and thanks to my wife for broadening my horizons over the last couple of years)... 1) the show must go on (even if you have a bone bruise mid-thigh and are the lead). 2) Whatever happens was supposed to happen... it isn't always ideal, but if you act like things were supposed to be that way and you (or someone else) is working to resolve it, most people won't really care. 3) Let others help. Just because someone asks in chat, doesn't mean it has to be answered right away... and if you will let us, there are several there that will tell people about the overlay issues or help with basic answers.

As a listener, I realize I need to do a better job in my chat comments. Though it feels interactive, it is easy to lose context from a written reply that made sense at the moment but doesn't when you, the commentators, read it a minute or two later. We'll try to get better on that aspect.

Hell, when it is a good show I am quick enough to take the praise so you better believe that when it is not I am going to own that as well!

I knew everything was going too well, in the 3 weeks since we started the only issue we hit was me needing to restart the stream on Saturday after it had been running for 7 hours. We were due for something to go wrong.

My biggest mistake was the assumption that the set up would just continue to work so I put a lot let effort in to the actually hardware/software side and spent a long time trying to get the perfect camera shot and planning content which then all went out of the window!

Next time I will be making sure the stream is bullet proof before I worry about the other stuff.

Unfortunately (or maybe fortunately?) I missed the last of the show, but plan to watch the part I missed today. Once I've done that I can more fairly assess the overall feel, but trust eagletsi111 to give a fair assessment.

I tell my kids all the time that if you are going to claim 'I'm right' then you also have to own up to 'I'm wrong', so I too appreciate your being frank about the show Kris. And like Panic217 says, we still love you and will be back. Though I do think you should have a dance routine worked out. Just in case there is a request. At least a move or two. ;)

The last game I actually got back to enjoying myself and we had a lot of interaction with the players which was fun as they had a good time too.

Just have to pic a better contest next time. ;)

Kris

As I stated before, it's not about the skill levels of the opponents, or the overlay issues.

It was about how the players were treated and the comments issued by the broadcasters, as well as the boring attitude towards the game and correcting every move of each player. It was very negative and not necessary. Honestly, it sounded like you guys had some pops before hand and were sloshed. Anyway you recognized it and that is what counts.
