Space Station: Does not make sense

By ryanabt, in Star Wars: Armada

I think that would make for a great scenario, but not an objective.

That's one thing they definitely need to add in - scenarios. Not to be used in tournaments, mind you. I really like the objective system. Two different objectives make for two very, very different games. But scenarios would be fun. I love coming up with scenario ideas, but I'm crap at balancing them.

You might as well be asking what Hydro-Spanners are! Don't treat Star Wars like proper Sci-Fi, you'll only be disappointed... I concur with the Space Wizards comment!

A fast wash and wax at a space station makes more sense than some ship beaming you over shield replacements.

I thought the same thing until someone on this forum reminded me that the shield for the second Deathstar was actually generated 'on the nearby forest moon of Endor' meaning not only is the technology to 'beam' shields on to other targets already canon, it's actually demonstrated on screen in the original trilogy!

I don't mind the idea of the space station repairing nearby ships. The 'health' of a ship can be anything from the physical integrity of the hull to the morale of the crew (and therefore their ability to get things done). Receiving aid from a space station could be as simple as their technicians taking remote control of some systems on the damaged ship, in order to fix some issues, find work arounds and isolate damaged areas. Not to mention repair droids and things like that.

What IS weird is that the station is willing to do this for any nearby ship, not just ones on their side.

I like the rules - simple yet with the size of the template they can have quite a deep tactical effect.

There was a great consideration of the station rules on one of the early IFFs.... "you rebel dogs, you drank all the Tydarian whiskey!"

I'm more frustrated that patches of "asteroid fields" that are smaller than 1 mile² pose a realistic threat to FTL spaceships that fight at an engagement distance that would've made WWI feel technologically advanced.

I've suspended plenty of disbelief to justify game rules. This is a pretty small one to suspend.

It is staffed by droids and Jawas.

Pretty sure if it was staffed by jawas you'd lose hull by landing on it.

They'd strip those deck plates so fast... :P

Squadrons and space station.

We already have the capability to remotely jam anti aircraft targetting systems.

I fail to see what is wierd about squadrons getting bonus from fighting at space station.

had my first experience with the collision while on a station. I'm not faulting my opponent, it's the rules. when i accidentally hit a Neb with my M80 and it doesn't come away with a scratch something is wrong. Players are naturally going to use something like that if it's legal. it's a silly rule that's to blame. Maybe the ship needs to be at speed 0 at the station to have hull repaired

But ramming over the station is not a very frequent occurrence, and winning or losing by one damage is also a rare occurrence. I don't think this interaction causes a significant problem in the game.

Requiring a drop to speed 0 effectively makes the station an obstruction and nothing more. One hull is almost never worth the inability to use defense tokens.

I parked an AF on the station, did 3 ramming damage to a VSD, taking none for myself. Though the two GSDs and the VSD made sure the AF became space dust anyway.

You clearly haven't seen my diceluck.

Oh God. . .a blob of TIE Bombers sitting on the edge of the station with Rhymer. Have fun taking THAT objective.

This is what I mean. 5 HP and they regen 1 per turn if they are being given squad orders, let's not even get started about scatter aces, if you don't alpha them in one turn they can regen a third of their health. If they are being given squad orders they can shoot and them move onto the station. Next turn, move to the edge and shoot. The obstruction protects them further and they are regening, plus they are still shooting full shots every turn.

I have found this strategy to be ineffective. It requires very precise positioning for extremely limited utility, since only like three squadrons can perch on the edge of the token to keep firing at any given time, and you're extremely limited in your placement of your rhymerball, making it easy interceptor food.

If your bomber is ON the station, an A-Wing can still plink it for two blue per turn while receiving NO incoming fire (even from counter 1). Even regaining 1 HP per turn, this is a losing proposition, and the moment you leave the token they'll be chased down no problem.

One single, solitary squadron engaged will shut down that whole blob to the point that they can neither fire at a ship NOR make a move (required for them to regen the 1 HP). Hell, you can't even use Intel to prevent this without exposing your JM to fast, fiery death due to the precise positioning of such an attempt.

YMMV, but personally I invite my opponent to park their rhymerball on the station. Makes it easier for me to deal with.
