Order 66 Podcast: Questions for the Devs - Keeping the Peace

By DarthGM, in Star Wars: Force and Destiny RPG

What's up, Gamer Nation?

In three weeks time we will be welcoming Max Brooke (and possibly another FFG writer or two) to the show to talk about the ins, the outs, and the answers to your questions about Keeping the Peace.

Naturally, they can't answer your questions unless you ask them, so type up your questions about the book here! We'll compile them and ask every one we can to get you the answers you seek.

As always, we have to state that we are taking questions for Keeping the Peace only. Questions about other books will take a back seat and likely won't be answered due to time constraints. Questions about future FFG products will not be asked. As they've stated to us in the past, they can't answer any questions about products or material that has not been announced yet.

Also, please refrain from discussion about the questions raised by anyone posting below. We're trying to make sure we get everyone's questions, and don't want to lose any in the potential chatter.

We'll keep the question thread open until Tuesday the 16th at Midnight, when we'll finalize the questions for Max and FFG to review.

So ask away here, and hope to see you in our LiveChat on Ustream on February 21st, 8pm Central, to hear your questions answered!

What influences - inside or outside of Star Wars - went into the design of the three new specializations?

What was the thought process in making a ship like the VCX-100 a silhouette 5 ship when its clearly not bigger and in fact smaller then many silhouette 4 ships.

"Devs, why, why, why do you hate 'pretty' species???" <cries>

Um, let me re-phrase that...

"Is there a certain criteria or design intention why you use certain species in this splatbook... because they don't immediately seem to be iconic for being Force-sensitives?"

I'm paging through the new crystals in Keeping the Peace and I saw something odd. The Sorian Crystal is marked as requiring 4 HP to install rather than the standard 2 for a Kyber Crystal. This is reflected in both it's description and the purchasing table 2-7. Is this crystal truly unique in how much space it takes up, or is this perhaps a typo?

If it is not a typo, one way of abusing the system would be to use the Cyclic Crystal Array (Did anyone pick up that phone, because GM Phill CALLED IT?!) with a 2 HP cost Kyber Crystal, and then install the Sorian Crystal at 0 Hard point cost.

Thanks Order 66, I never listen (because my inhibitor chip was damaged in a freak Exogorth dung mining accident, I don't want to talk about it...)

By this same token, what is the point of including silly races that look like cartoon abominations?

Furry headed, duck-billed aliens for the diplomats' book, for instance. Facepalm.

While some gamers do like playing oddball obscurities, the rest of us would like them not to.

Heh.

I'm a big believer that everyone should play what they want, whether it's 'bug eyed monsters' or 'looks good with their clothes off' races.

But I'd like to see a more even mix than what we're getting, especially in the AoR line.

And I'm genuinely interested in how they choose the species for each book. 'Nexus of Power' has Gungans and Aleena, for instance, when even they admit these races aren't known for being Force-sensitive.

Questions!

1. These new talents are way cool. What is your favorite new talent addition?

2. Do you have any cool stories about how Fated Duel or Unmatched Heroism was used in a game? Bonus points if you were the player that used either of them?

3. I really love Precision Strike, with the idea that a character can be "that good" with, or without, a weapon. Let's say Mara Jade (who obviously has this talent) succeeds masterfully on a lightsaber attack (no Advantage, just lots of Success), and the damage takes her opponent over his wound threshold, causing that opponent to immediately suffer a critical injury. Can the Precision Strike talent be applied to this critical injury?

Urg! I forgot. Do we know Max Brooke's pie status?

Wait, yes! He revealed it on July 26th. It was pumpkin.

What was the decision making process for giving the double-bladed lightsaber pike the Stun 4 quality? Was it to address a mechanical niche, or is there lore behind the decision? Also, is it safe to assume attachments and mods for the saber cost the usual amount, or is it like the base double-bladed saber where the price is doubled?

I'd also be interested in knowing more about the process determining which species will be included in a particular book...

though I think they did a great job with the choices in Keeping the Peace I'd still find the discussion interesting.

My guess is that they're taking queues from the prequel movies and using species from the Jedi Council - so we see Lannik and Iktochi there was a Whiphid Jedi Master or two in the various comics.

The Iktochi - as detailed in the book - have an actual species connection to the Force so they make sense in some F&D book, but it seems like Nexus would have been a better fit.

I'm a big believer that everyone should play what they want, whether it's 'bug eyed monsters' or 'looks good with their clothes off' races....

I'm a big believer in reasonableness. I do think players should have plenty of latitude to play characters that inspire them. On the other hand, not every character is suitable every campaign, and some players choose oddities that are poor fits, or hard to work with, or tonally inappropriate, in their quest to play the most unique special snowflake evah! It has nothing to do with whether the character looks good with their clothes off and everything to do with role-playing games being communal endeavors wherein the group as a whole is working towards everyone's fun. If one player with a contrarian streak, or patently horrendous sensibilities, wants to play something that makes the rest of the group groan (or the game master's job harder than need be) then they need to be told, politely and firmly, "no." I work hard to accommodate my players in good faith, but that's a two way street. Their fun doesn't trump everyone else's fun and, while I work hard to be flexible, I'm not going to deal with headache characters. This isn't restricted to space oddities, but to characters whose concept doesn't the style, genre, or tone of the game - even if everyone is human.

OP asked quite clearly not to get into discussions about the questions people are asking. If anybody wants to get into one, start a new thread.

I'd like to ask a question about the VCX-100. Namely that we were first introduced to it in Rebels, and in that show we see the Ghost go through some very high stress maneuvers, it is surprising to see it as a Silhouette 5 ship, was there intention for it to be played with a smuggler who can treat its silhouette as lower to perform evasive maneuvers?

What was the thought behind the ghost as it appears in Keeping the Peace?

What is up with the Miy'til starfighter?

What is up with the Miy'til starfighter?

Perhaps a clarification would be make the question more answerable...if this was where you were going, SHADOWGUARD...

Question below was asked on these forums. I would actually be interested in the answer, as well! It seems like a very appropriate mechanical representation for the most part, but I'm curious as to why the departure was made from previous sources (which give an armament of 6 missiles) and the fighter was only given 1? It is certainly a good balance for the size of the craft.

So I was reading the stats for the Miy'til in Keeping The Peace yesterday, and have a couple questions:

1. Is the concussion missile really meant to be single shot (limited ammo 1) ?

2. Is it meant to be silhouette 2 instead of 3?

Both would be very much in keeping with the fluff but I just wanted to double check before I start trying to fly it. :-)

I know it's impolite, but here's a question from someone else (and another thread), but it needs to be asked, and since both books are out now, they should be able to comment:

Has anybody compared the Lannik entry from Keeping the Peace (FaD) with the one from Lead by Example (AoR)? The two entries are almost alike except that the one from Keeping starts with 100 XP and the species feature of Indomitable removes two Setback dice compared to the one from Lead which starts with 95 XP and an Indomitable feature that removes one Setback die.

So basically, which one is correct.

(I'm sorry for ripping your question from somewhere else and pasting it in here Happy, it just needs to be asked.)

Ok so first up, I am going to second the question from the poster above me. Next up is a question from that came up because of Lead by Example. Why is the MC80 Home One type cruiser a Silhouette 9 which puts in the same tier as the Praetor and Assertor while going by the movies and really any other source it is closer in size to a Star Destroyer and no where near what could be classified as a Super Star Destroyer. For a Silhouette 9 rebel capital a Viscount-Class Star Defender should have been used, even if it is off by a decade or so it would have made more sense the making Home One a Sil 9. Sorry if it sounds like I am complaining to much, trust me I love the game and have bought pretty much all the books. I just want to know why this decision.

I think the OP said that they are only going to ask keeping the peace questions.

This thread is specifically for Keeping the Peace. Your question is better for a possible future Lead by Example episode focus, or strike up a conversation on the Age of Rebellion board. I have a possible explanation to the reasoning, but I won't post it here because DarthGM asked us nicely not to discuss the questions.

Question: Armour crafting, it's cool and fun, but it's offers quite a step up in power! It seems this may be one of the first supplements that is a "must have" for every group. I like the idea of an entire party rocking custom armour, but it could get a bit cheesy. Can a little of the reasoning behind this be explained please? A PC could spend over 30,000 on a single highly modified suit!

No worries. I had come here to post it, but so long as it gets asked (and answered), I'm Happy.
