Gand Findsman

By Xandron, in Star Wars: Force and Destiny RPG

It seems like this topic has been slightly covered in other threads, but there are a few questions that I would like to ask to consolidate some of the communities thoughts on findsman.

First, it seems like most people agree Gand findsman are a combination of the seer and hunter specializations. I agree with this, but which do you choose as your starting spec? Starting as hunter gives you 2 ranks of ranged heavy AND vigilance which is huge! Unfortunately, going from hunter to seer means you never get direct access to perception which, to me, seems like a huge loss.

Second, the seek and foresee force powers are the bread and butter of findsman, but how important is Foresee to a findsman? Should a findsman only need seek? Finally, what seek and/or foresee power upgrades are most important for a findsman?

Edit: What interesting morality and/or obligation would you pic for your findsman?

Seek is the only "must have" for a Findsman, I'd say. And even if perception isn't a career skill, Hunter can still remove setbacks, add boosts, and give a re-roll.

I would start Seeker/Hunter, and go with Seek. The Magnitude upgrades, left-hand column Control upgrade, the Duration upgrade, and the top right Control upgrade would all be necessary. Add Seer in somewhere along the way ,and you're pretty good. I wouldn't sweat not getting Perception as a career skill too much, because you can still purchase ranks anyway. Don't forget the upcoming Savage Spirits book might have something useful in it that would help as well.

Very good point.

I had a Gand Findsman as a PC in an older FaD campaign I ran during the Beta. He went with Seeker/Hunter as well as the Seek and Foresee powers. Of the two Force powers, I'd say Seek is the principal one to focus on in the early going, but Foresee with a Strength Upgrade can be handy for making a connection to someone that you've not properly met or have much of a connection to but are trying to find. Plus Foresee has some nice perks to initiative checks that can give the Findsman and their allies a valuable edge in combat.

I'm playing one in a campaign now and I went with bounty hunter (assassin) and force sensitive exile. My plan is to later branch into sentinel (shadow) and soldier (sharpshooter). For force talents, I'm using enhance, seek, and sense.

Honestly, if you're a findsman, I don't know why you'd go with hunter because half of the talents only apply to animals. Hunter vs. Lethal Blows is a no-brainer: unless your campaign really features a ton of animals, hunter is a set-piece talent at best.

One thing to also note is that gands findsmen don't consider themselves to be force sensitive; but access the force through rituals that only make sense to them.

Yeah. Weird. But then that is the gand culture. XD

Yep, which is one of the reasons I got "back door" access to force powers through FS Exile rather than one of the usual Jedi traditions. There's two actual jedi in our party that I plan on using to train my character as a legitimate force user later on, but for now he's just relying on rituals and instinctual force use (Enhance tree). I don't plan on picking up flashy force abilities, such as force leap, until late in the campaign.

When I scanned this thread title, I would have sworn it said Find Gandsman at first.
