Quicker force rating

By Nephlim24, in Star Wars: Force and Destiny RPG

So, as expensive as it is to be a Jedi xp wise with a whole additional category to pump xp into what is the best way to up the number of force dice one can get?

The best I have come up with is to go and invest in the edge and age force trees for 20 xp? any other ideas or ways

Start as a Sage or Seer? Your first talent tree then gets you to FR 3. After that you're pretty set unless you're trying to blast entire encounters away in a single splurge of Unleash.

Thanks Neph for asking... I just literally logged and was going to search 'Force Rating' to see if someone had posted about raising it during CharGen (I have the book on my lap as I type).. so... even though Force Rating APPEARS to be a characteristic on the character sheet, it isn't? So it can't be raised during CharGen?

It's not a characteristic. It can only be raised with the Force Rating Talent.

or getting the force emergent/force exile trees, but you can really only do one of those to have it make any sense story wise.

Exile and Emergent only grant a Force Rating of 1, and don't raise it by +1.

You can only get your initial Force Rating through taking either Force Sensitive Exile or Emergent, or by starting with a F&D career. After those it can only be improved through the Force rating talent. This can usually be done if you start at "Knight" level with the additional XP.

Adding either one (or both) of these specs to your character only grants Force Rating 1 if you don't have a Force Rating. Their entries say this pretty explicitly if you read the whole description of what they do. Each F&D career does this if it was your starting career. So, the only way to increase your FR is to take the Force Rating Talent. The 3 ways (so far) to gain a FR of 1 are to start as a F&D career, or add the FS Exile/Emergent spec to your character.

well, there goes my hopeful loop hole, oh well

As with most RPGs, if it seems way easier than other ways, it's probably wrong. Or errata'd.

Hmmm.. after re-reading through the CharGen I can see why. We'd spend our points on Force rating for at least 3 dice for the Force Pool

Well also check and see what FR you need to do whatever it is you want to do. If you're going to be doing something that only requires 1 pip then pumping up your FR past 1 is probably not really important...

If your character likes animals go Pathfinder. I think it's the cheapest route to +1 Force Rating.

Close.

Seer is the fastest to +1 Force Rating at 60 XP.

Pathfinder takes 65.

Sage and Artisan both take 70.

Then you get into the ones that are straight shots down the tree for 75 XP.

To get to +2 FR in the same tree:

Seer takes 140 total.

Sage takes 135 total.

Agreed.

I've seen PCs function just fine with Force Rating 1, simply by carefully choosing what powers they have. Sense and Enhance are good choices, since they can work pretty well with only a single Force die, especially the defensive Control Upgrades for Sense.

Both Seer and Scholar will take you to FR-3 in one tree.

Add Niman Disciple and you will hit FR-4 in two trees,

If you are after quick FR, its doable if you plan for it.

Personally, FR-2 is enough to get reliable results for most introductory Force Powers.

FR-3 is more than enough to be a "skilled Jedi."

More than that is gravy.

Are you a player or GM? I ask because if you are a GM and want your players to advance faster there are two ways about it. Either give out more XP per session OR readjust the Force Talent Trees and move the Force Rating block to a cheaper position.

If you are a player you can talk to your GM about doing the same.
