Let's do this thing wave 3

By Cubanboy, in Star Wars: Armada

So I am on the bandwagon for wave 3 news at this point. I just had to look it up but April 6 was the announcement for Wave 2, that's 10 months ago.

I will say this though if FFG has in mind a once a year plan for Armada I would be ok with it if they told us, even a on this day each year will be release date, also i would not even mind a 2 ship release every 6 months with monthly news stories spreads out over the course of the product cycle.

I love this game and want more of it and hope that it's just FFG being FFG with the lack of news vs pushing us to another FFG product like X-Wing with the desire of wanting more plastic crack. If we don't hear anything this month I might be forced to go to shapeways, there is some amazing stuff there...

I guess as we say as adults that patience is a virtue, and I am not at torch/pitchfork yet. Honestly I really wish FFG would be more up front with news for us. Anyway I am complaining at this point and this is about the 10000000 post on wave 3 so I will just say this Ep7 is coming to Home Release in 2 months. Yea

I'm personally just begun to really enjoy wave 2, so I am ok with the lack of wave 3 news. I may try DiabloAzul's ship ideas anyway-they are very cool!

As time goes on, I'm hoping more and more that wave 3 will be Rebels and not Ep VII stuff. And that makes me excited. Must admit, I barely have any wave 2 stuff at the moment and have only played with Rogues and Villains with my partner. But still, I enjoy having the teaser there, the anticipation. I dislike not having news. Even if they just released a really obscure shadow/silhouette, I'd be excited!

Two more weeks until New York Toy Fair! We saw glimpses of wave 2 at that last year. Maybe we'll see wave 3 stuff this time.

I check FFG daily for Armada news. I know where you're coming from, but I don't mind if the announcement is closer to deployment than wave 2 was.

I'm just waiting for Lyraeus' copy/paste moment now....

Hahahahaha! I was just gonna type the same sarcastic response ;)

I think at this point, despite whatever precedent may have been set in the early days of X-Wing, people are justified in being a little miffed at the complete silence from FFG regarding all things Armada. We have rule questions that are outstanding for over a month right after a wave hits the streets (which you would think would be when they wanted to get answers out most) and no new product announcement for almost, what is it now, three months since the wave dropped?

Don't get me wrong, I am still deeply in love with this game, and I think that FFG in general does a very nice job with their customer service. But this game exists now, and will succeed purely on the strength of its content and community, because FFG's marketing department or what have you is doing it no favors.

I'm just waiting for Lyraeus' copy/paste moment now....

I love that guy

I'm calling the end of march, early april for the wave 3 announcement. Adepticon has been getting a lot of promotion lately, and FFG is probably going to have some kind of reveal.

My guess is that it will be a huge reveal, spanning Armada, X-Wing, and even Imperial Assault.

I'm just waiting for Lyraeus' copy/paste moment now....

Please no. It's like some people feel the community isn't allowed to get hyped over some new product speculation.

I think it's a can't please everybody situation for FFG. Release news too soon and have a long wait for product, or hold off news and have a likely quick turn around. Either way, you're gonna piss some people off.

My Speculation on what's going on:

-I don't know much about what other products go through the miniatures manufacturing process for FFG, but I know there is a finite output from the factories (or any factory for that matter). I'd wager a bet that the turnaround from wave announcement to having it in hand will be much quicker this time around. X Wing just cranked out a new wave (complete with movie tie-ins), a reprint of the entire scum wave in the last few months that's just getting to stores, plus the launch of Rebellion in a few weeks. Maybe they just have to wait for production time to open up to manufacture the **** things. In this case, we're likely only a few weeks away from announcements of some sort and probably a quarter out from buying the stuff itself. Plus, if they are developing Wave 4 as hinted at, then you never know if they may have gone back to 3 to change things.

-The merger is affecting things in big ways behind the scenes. On top of several reprints and new releases, they could be just trying to optimize things leading to a slowdown up front for better turnaround later. I don't know much about Asmodee, but perhaps they came in and started using FFG resources for other projects leading to an extended leadtime. Anything that the merger could have effected the process goes here.

-FFG hates you, and is a bipolar dictator. Right now, you peasants, will starve for the greater good. Do not question us!

I think either way, you'll see new product before Q3. I'm hedging that either the knowledge of the limited supply of capital ships that fit the current mold (Cannon and Legends), or the fact it's less of a money maker than X Wing, or perhaps better QA/Testing is leading to longer lead times. Actually, I'm very much ok with one release a year. I DO think that Wave 3 is needed to make the game a little more open (hear me out); With only 2 medium ships, there isn't a physical variety in ships to pick from. Yes there are a LOT of combinations to pick from, but honestly there are clearly better combos than others.

At this point I wouldn't be surprised to see them hold off until some big event like Adepticon or something.

If I may partly derail this slightly... Would people prefer getting the news 6-8 months ahead of time, or 2-3 months? I mean let's assume one or two waves per year. Would you rather know 5+ months ahead of time, or go longer without any news but have the stuff in your hands sooner after it was announced?

Myself I'd rather go with less time between announcement and release.

+1 for Stasy's post.

I'd like to add that yes, I agree there are many combinations, but few optimal combinations.

What I'd really like from wave 3 (apart from more plastic crack or "Prack" ©) is some creativity with the mechanics to breathe life into existing hulls.

There are tons of clever things that can be done via upgrade cards to provide variety and flexibility without having a glut of "just slightly different" hulls!

Imagine an upgrade card that allowed you to change your anti-squadron to red dice, or one that allowed you to discard an evade token for a brace (raider..) or one that allowed you to permanently add 1 speed at the cost of hull points (Victory?)

There is also room for multi-faction capable ships like the dreadnaught, which could be exciting.

I've been very excited to hear news of wave 3 and check in every day, lets just say I've been doing A LOT OF PAINTING to stave off my Prack cravings

2 months before I can finally see TFA, eh?

can please everybody situation for FFG. Release news too soon.

My Speculation on what's going on:

- Blaw, Blaw, Blaw

-FFG hates you, and is a bipolar dictator. Right now, you dirty vassel peasants

I dont care about the lack of Wave 3.. I like the game and the depth it has with Wave 2 - BUT im missing input from the developers side, some stuff that would keep the community alive like ship presentations, lists, tactics,...

For me it seems like there is no interest from FFG to inspire the community

At this point I wouldn't be surprised to see them hold off until some big event like Adepticon or something.

Some long range news would be nice to give us a glimpse at what ships and squadrons Wave 3 would have to offer. Maybe an article from the developers talking about where they are thinking of taking the game. I'm not looking for pictures of the new ships or card spoiler. I just want to know that FFG are looking to the future of Armarda along with the other games they're making.

I'm with you Kahadras. Something, anything, would be good. Vague musings or whatever else they wanted to put out, just something to let us know they haven't forgotten us Armada players!

That said, I would be surprised if it went much long without news of any kind.

I agree with the sentiment... Anything from FFG that acknowledges the game exists would be nice. And I highly doubt we'll go long without something. Let's be honest... They've had reason to discuss the other things they have done recently. Rebellion and Wave 9000 (or whatever it is at this point) for X Wing are in the home stretch of release.

The problem is some of the people who would take that and be ungrateful there wasn't more information. That just bugs me. Call it entitlement, call it the Greater Internet Fu**wad Theory...

Well, they did mention Armada in the Release-of-Bespin-and-Endor Playmats article.... So, good thing, right?

They clearly built the game with certain role-specific ships in mind (I'm thinking carrier, here, and an antisquardon platform for the Rebs). We got a little of that from the ISD I but I'm really hoping fo some laser-focused ships coming out soon. Given the boost squadrons had in Wave 2, I have a feeling they're not going to pump them up anymore in Wave 3 but I with a DP-20 type ship for the rebels and a rules change maybe they could justify it.

Personally, id like to see a few more EU ships, but I'd settle for a 'Title pack' and 'Aces pack' - more pilots and titles to boost out-of-meta ships like the Vic.

Its just very difficult to make a call on what is "Out of Meta"... Because My Meta is clearly different to your Meta if that statement is anything to go by :D

People are allowed to be hyped. That is perfectly fine in my opinion. The line gets crossed when people blame FFG for good business practices and learning from mistakes.

The reason for me going through the info of X-Wing is because there is usually a trend that follows. One possibility that people are not considering is that FFG is going to pull what they did for X-Wing in the last 18 months. Where they drop wave after wave of stuff in quick succession.

There is also the issue that belies a restructure that follows on the heels of a merger.

This falls under the reason why I am unhappy at people bellyaching for information. If news is all that important for you go find a source. Since EnquiringNewt had to stop people have gotten super antsy over the lack of news. That is fine but at least tone it down. Go enjoy the game. If your community is dead, revive it. Take the time and build your community first.

This game is going to need a lot of support if we want to prove to FFG that we want more. That is the downside to such an expensive game.

Title Packs would be difficult to do right now. The reason they do them is to generally fix issues with ships. Currently there are very few issues. I dont expect expansions like that till wave 3 or 4.

VSD's in my area take names. They require certain builds but Mikael has done wonders for it. So has several others.
