Help a noob pick a list

By elijahdprophet, in X-Wing Squad Lists

Hey all, I just played my first two games outside my apartment today and had a great time, in a couple of weeks is the local Store Championship, and while I foster no fantasies of winning the whole thing, I'd like to make a good show of it.

To that end, I'm list building tonight, and figured I would see what all of the veterans on here thought of the ideas I'm tossing around.

First up is a loaded B wing with some scrubs to run as screeners or chase down ships Keyan takes down to near death. I like the synergy on this b-wing, but maybe its getting too expensive/cute?

Up next are three aces, pretty straight forward and maybe will do ok? Swarm on Wedge is really just to spend the points since I am working form a limited inventory, although getting one of the others to shoot just ahead of an opposing PS 8 pilot might come in handy.

Any thoughts or tips?

PTL and Daredevil on Tycho. Outmaneuver on Wedge. VI and R2-D2 on Poe. Take torpedoes off. This is a better list I think. Just my opinion.

•Wedge Antilles (33)

Outmaneuver (3)

R2 Astromech (1)

•Tycho Celchu (30)

A-Wing Test Pilot (0)

Push The Limit (3)

Daredevil (3)

Chardaan Refit (-2)

•Poe Dameron (36)

Veteran Instincts (1)

•R2-D2 (4)

Total: 99/100

Outmaneuver on Wedge can be handy against the common imperial aces but against Bs and Ys it's completely useless, so I'd prefer predator to have extra-modified attacks, or BB-8 and push the limit. If you can get integrated astromech on Wedge that would also be handy (basically a free shield with the droid). As for Poe and Tycho, autothrusters would be handy on them so I'd consider trading daredevil for two autothrusters, or maybe another integrated astromech on Poe and VI and thrusters on Tycho. Perhaps something like this:

(100)

Wedge Antilles — X-Wing 29

Push the Limit 3

BB-8 2

Integrated Astromech 0

Ship Total: 34

Poe Dameron — T-70 X-Wing 31

Veteran Instincts 1

R2-D2 4

Integrated Astromech 0

Ship Total: 36

Tycho Celchu — A-Wing 26

Push the Limit 3

Chardaan Refit -2

Veteran Instincts 1

Autothrusters 2

A-Wing Test Pilot 0

Ship Total: 30

As for your first list, I find a light Keyan to be more effective as he still can hit hard and isn't such a point sink, so I'd just equip him with veteran instincts and advanced sensors and get a third bandit with the points you save. I know that someone on here once reported doing well with Keyan, Wedge and 3 bandits, so that's also an option.

Good luck!

Thanks for the suggestions!

Sadly I don't have any autothrusters, and that ship is sold out everywhere, and I only have a single VI. What do you think of this?

Wedge Antilles [R2 Astromech, Predator, Engine Upgrade] (37)

Poe Dameron [bB-8, Veteran Instincts, Integrated Astromech] (34)

Tycho Celchu [A-Wing Test Pilot, Chardaan Refit, Wired, Push the Limit] (28)

Not bad! I would try to fit R2-D2 on Poe however:

Wedge w/ BB-8, predator & IA = 34

Poe w/ R2-D2 & VI = 36

Green Squad w/ a-wing test pilot, push the limit, outmanoeuvre, chardaan & hull upgrade = 26

For the last 4 points, you can either give Wedge a proton torpedo or give Poe a shield upgrade.

Squeeze BB-8 on Wedge if you're going to give him Outmaneuver. At least now you have a chance of ensuring you're out of your opponent's firing arc (best way to not get Wedge killed=don't get shot).

I have a (possibly slightly noobish) question about the keyan build in the first list.

Why Kyle and not Jan?

Since Keyan can spend the stress like focus, you don't need focus for attack. And with only one green dice the focus is of extremely limited value on defense.

The action economy might not be quite as good on Jan, but at least you can push for a focus action, switch it over to an evade, and be guaranteed to dodge at least one hit.

Or am I missing something?

You'd have to take VI off Poe, but you can do it.

Just me being a noob and not thinking about how useful the focus would be on defense. Thanks for pointing that out.

I wish I could play this game nightly, so many lists that could work or might crash and burn. Here is a combo of the ideas in the above lists.
