overlapping obstacles question

By thanosazlin, in Star Wars: Armada Rules Questions

i can't remember, and i'm having hard time finding a rule, the RR says

A ship or squadron overlaps an obstacle if part of
its base is on top of the obstacle token after moving
(excluding activation sliders). Ships and squadrons can
move through obstacles without issue.
1. so what is a ship overlaps an obstacle and only the plastic base is over the obstacle and not the ship cardboard? I assume it hits the obstacle.
2. what if a ship only has it's shield dial over an obstacle? i would have to assume NO it doesn't hit the obstacle if i am right i can't find the rule for that. I mean it's so confusing sometimes for the rules regarding when and where shields count and don't count :) .

1) Yes, everything except Activation Sliders - the Ship, the Base, the Shield Dial, and the Plastic Components that Frame the shield dial, all count for Obstruction . Because that is what the Ship is defined as.

2) There are two "Exceptions" for what Shield Dials do not count for.

The First is Line of Sight. They Do not obstruct line of sight.

The Second is Being off the Table Edge . Although this could be inferred as "overlapping" somewhat, it is a specific exception and not a general thing.

Ergo, a shield dial over an obstacle is actually ON that obstacle, as Shield Dials do count for Overlap.

basically, a Ship is everything . A Hull Zone is Cardboard. Does it say Ship or Hull Zone? That's your Answer.
