Another List Advice Thread

By MandalorynOranj, in Imperial Assault Skirmish

Hey kind folks:

I'm playing in my first IA tournament next weekend, and while I've played a lot of the campaign, I've played hardly any Skirmish. I wanted to ask for advice and critique on my list, especially the Command deck.

Keep in mind the stuff I own: Core set, Twin Shadows, Stormtrooper expansion, Kayn Somos, Royal Guard Champion, and Boba Fett.

List:

Royal Guard Champion (15)

Royal Guard (8)

Stormtrooper (6)

Stormtrooper (6)

Imperial Officer (2)

Imperial Officer (2)

Total: 39

Command Deck:

Celebration (0)

Close the Gap (2)

Covering Fire (3)

Cripple (2)

Element of Surprise (0)

Fleet Footed (0)

Flurry of Blades (2)

Jump Jets (1)

Marksman (1)

Pummel (1)

Recovery (0)

Reinforcements (2)

Set for Stun (0)

Take Initiative (0)

Urgency (0)

Total: 14

Other cards I was considering are Counter Attack, Expose Weakness, Guardian Stance, and Take Cover.

So, what do you guys think? Anything I could do better? Tips for playing the current tourney scenarios?

Thanks in advance!

If you have the one deployment point in and have Kayn's pack you probably want to put rule by fear in - get to draw a total of 5 command cards to start and choose from those one to discard.

Somewhere in the command cards you could fit in a parting blow or two (since your royal guards can use them too) and a rally for getting the stun back off. I feel like as fast as the guards and champion are, I'd personally drop the close the gap and then marksman to free up 3 points for 4 total (since you're at 14 currently) to put in those parting blows or one parting blow and another reinforcements.

You've got the fleetfooted for one non-action movement point when it counts to get a guard/champion in place for pummel/flurry of blades and I'd rather have a second reinforcement card than one marksmen for a bunch of stormtroopers who mostly will move forward shoot and move back.

That's what I'd add off the top of my head. But I played against a similar list Saturday in a tournament and it's definitely tricky to play against. That champion was hard to deal with and he can also really help dominate some objectives with all that speed. And he hits like a truck!

Actually, you (and I) played against that exact same list, as far as figures go, with a Rule by Fear, which won the 10-player tournament.. I don't know what all was in the command deck, but Take Initiative and Reinforcements definitely hurt me.

Thanks for the tips, I'll give the deck another look.
