YT24 double down viability?

By humptydumpty96, in X-Wing Squad Lists

I've been working on running two YT-2400s and came up with this...

Thoughts, concerns, hopes and fears appreciated!

Wild Space Fringer (46 total)

-Heavy Laser Canon(7)

-saboteur(2)

-outrider title (5)

-anti pursuit lasers(2)

Wild Space Fringer (36 total)

-flechette cannon(2)

-tactician(2)

-anti pursuit lasers(2)

Tala Z95 (18 total)

-concussion missiles (4)

-munitions fail safe (1)

Here's a scary double YT-2400 build:

'super' Dash: PTL, HLC, outrider, Kyle & engine = 58

Vrill w/ HLC = 39

97

For the last 3 points, you can add any of these to Vrill:

-intel agent + anti-pursuit lasers (for mostly blocking)

-Jan Ors + tactical jammer (for mostly tanking)

-recon specialist (playing it safe)

Just depends on how you want to fly him.

I don't like running the HLC + Outrider title unless I'm running Dash. Otherwise you have a fairly predictable ship with donut hole that you can't attack out of. I see where you are going with sabotuer, but that card requires an action and it only works 50% of the time. Not to mention they actually have to have a damage card on their ship. Its really a garbage card.

I would drop the Tala and upgrade to super Dash.

Thanks for the suggestions guys I'm thinking super dash is what I'll run with, what did you mean by a predictable ship with donut hole? I'm still new to the game and haven't gotten all the lingo down.

Super Dash is Dash Rendar in the Outrider, normally with Veteran Instincts (which make him PS9).

The problem with Heavy Laser cannon is that it is Range 2-3 meaning it cannot attack at Range 1. Taking the Outrider title means you give up your primary weapon. This means that the Outrider cannot attack targets at Range 1, they can hide "inside the donughnut hole".

Super Dash gets around this due to his high pilot skill and the fact that the YT-2400 has a barrel roll option. At PS9, you will be one of the last ships to move meaning you will know where most of the enemy ships have finished their move. If any ships are inside your Range 1, you can use a Barrel Roll action to flip the Outrider in one direction or the other. The Outrider has a large base so this will normally leave the enemy ship at Range 2 meaning you can now target them with the HLC.

Awesome, thank you for the clarification!

No, 'Super Dash' is the build I posted above. You CAN run him with VI if you want, but he won't be very effective. Forced to barrel roll almost every turn, he rarely has dice modification and as such simply does not hit hard enough to justify his cost.

Blade Mercurial's build is probably better (although more expensive). You may still spend time barrel rolling though. ;)

Definitely! But with push the limit and Kyle katarn, at least you have up to two actions (and a free focus next turn if clear stress)
