How I spent my Saturday night...

By Gottmituns205, in Star Wars: Armada

So like some of you I couldn't stand having these amazing capital ships...but risk style single color fighters. Being a good small scale painter I took to the web and got some tips and took a crack at painting the "flying ball of expendability"

Credit goes to Dropship Studio for the original guide, it was a fantastic help and quite frankly you could skip the highlight stage (just make the panel lines neat!) and still have great fighters.

Here is a link to the guide, it translates well for all Imperial fighters (wish he did a rebel one!)

However...here is the results of my obsession with getting things painted...and having a wife who works night's for Uncle Sam:

I personally think my only mistake was not taking more time to prep the minis. The casting process leaves mold lines on the outer surface of the wings...and with a file and a good blade it can be corrected. Round 2 is already primed...I'll crack out another Tie squadron, Interceptor and take a stab at the Advanced.

That is some exceedingly beautiful, exceedingly well-done paint work, colour me impressed.

I've just started to paint mine, and yours are a lot lighter; I like them a lot. Makes the details pop a little more. As I've only just started my TIEs... I think I may steal your lighter grey scheme :P Good work! A Saturday night well spent, in my opinion!

By my count I've got about 30 more to go...but my rebel buddy is wanting me to paint his x-wings :P

Very very nice!

Beautiful work!

Can I just suggest you get a black marker and draw the edges of the cardboard! It will be the icing that makes the cake!

These look great.

I also spent my Saturday night painting.

A bedroom. For a baby who decided to jump the gun. Lol my armada ships got spray painted black. Then tossed back into their box. Lol I'll get to them eventually.

I hadn't thought about the bases themselves Soulless, I'll look into it.

I also threw a GW black wash over my Rebel ships...man oh man the CR90 looks 1000% better!

I actually spraypainted all my Armada bases from beneath, makes them all black and with a very nice finish!

I then took a black marker and drew all edges of shield dials and squadron tokens black. It just makes then whole thing feel much more complete to not have to see those grey edges on otherwise beautiful showcase models!

Then again, ive yet to paint my squadrons so it still doesnt look good but eventually :)

The tie fighter tutorial is stupid easy I could honestly bust out my entire fleet of regular ties in under 2 days if I had enough caffeine and no distractions.
