I'm a relatively new player (just started a week before Christmas) and couldn't help but try the focus-and-TL-passing shenanigans of coupling Kyle and Dutch. I figured I'd throw the two of them in with Wedge and let the Ace of Rebel Aces tear through hulls like he was born to do. Here's the 100-point build:
- Wedge Antilles + R2-D2 + Veteran Instincts + Engine Upgrade (38)
- Kyle Katarn + Ion Cannon Turret + Recon Specialist + Moldy Crow (32)
- "Dutch" Vander + R5-K6 + Ion Cannon Turret (30)
Idea is that Kyle pitches Wedge a focus each turn. Dutch gives him TLs whenever possible. The two uglies ionize targets and Wedge boosts into range one to attack first with focus and TL.
It's been a ton of fun to fly and fairly successful so far against other squads of small ships or squads with large, low agility ships. The first time I played two Aggressors, however, I was slaughtered. After that game, I've tooled around with some variations on my original build and would love some input from the creative minds of this forum on how I might strengthen my squad before my store championship. Here's what I've been playing around with:
Idea One: Trade out Wedge's Veteran Instincts + Engine Upgrade for Expert Handling, Kyle's Recon Specialist + Ion Cannon Turret for Elusiveness + Jan Ors + Twin Laser Turret, and Dutch's Ion Cannon Turret for Twin Laser Turret.
- Idea here would be that the TLTs would keep the uglies further away from the action and potentially increase their damage output. Elusiveness would make Kyle a smidge harder to kill. Jan Ors would put an evade on the table when heavy fire is expected (Kyle tends to die early and often with 4+ focus tokens attached.). Giving Wedge a BR allows for different but equal mobility at the price of a stress but the gain of 2 points.
Idea Two: Trade out Wedge's Veteran Instincts for Expert Handling, Kyle's Recon Specialist + Ion Cannon Turret for Jan Ors + Twin Laser Turret, and Dutch's R5-K6 + Ion Cannon Turret for Twin Laser Turret.
- Same deal with the TLTs and Jan Ors. Figured giving Wedge ultimately mobility would give him more options for dodging enemy arcs and closing in for range one shots.
I only play Rebels and plan to purchase or currently own one copy each of non-Epic Rebel ships. I'd love to hear what you X-Wing masterminds suggest - thanks!
