"Contain" defensive token

By PauloC, in Star Wars: Armada Rules Questions

Hi,

My apologizes if that question was already answered here, I couldn't find it.

Does the effect of Contain (Large ships) mean that 1 critical dice can be cancelled OR that the damage received is a face up card where you do not consider the effect described (and treat it as a facedown damage) OR you receive a facedown card instead of a face up?

Using also this opportunity, the effect of station ("healing") is applied when in the turn? (end of turn, end of ship activation, when I want ....)

Thanks !

The way I understand it the standard critical only would be turned face down. It doesn't affect critical affects besides the standard one from hall damage though. If I have this wrong, please someone let me know

Contain simply stops the standard critical effect from happening. This means when you would normally receive a face up card from an attack you may spend contain to deal it face down instead. Also note this has no effect on Other critical effects from cards, such as Overload Pulse and Assault Concussion Missiles

The station heals a card immediately after you finish movement(and land on the station)

The paper that came with the Imperial Star Destroyer or MC80 you got has all the information on it.

I think people have mostly covered it.

In regards to the Contain Token, it only stops the Default Critical Effect of "The First Damage Card Dealt by this Attack is Dealt Face Up."... Which means, sorry, it still counts as Damage, but its going to be dealt face down instead of face up . It Does not stop any other Critical Effect that comes from an Upgrade Card with a Critical Icon.

The Station 'Heal' is done when you finish your maneuver . Essentially, as soon as you finish moving the ship and let go of it to say "its there", thats when the card discard happens.

What if someone deals say 8 cries

I play contain to stop the FIRST face up damage.

Presumably that means no face up at all because I stopped the first one

Or - do the succeeding cries then trigger "one" face up?

As I understand it "contain" cancels them all but there are still 8 damage to deal with...

When you resolve an attack, you can resolve one critical effect regardless of how many crits you actually roll. So if you roll eight crits, you can only resolve one effect. If you have no critical effect upgrades or choose not to use them, then you resolve the standard one, which is the first damage card is dealt face up. If you have a Contain token, you can spend it to be dealt that card face down instead.

And as was stated above, it does not cancel a crit or negate any other critical effects (Overload Pulse, NK-7 Ion Cannons, Assault Proton Torpedoes, etc., etc.).

No how many crits you have on the dice this only generates one crit effect in the crit phase. If the one the attacker chooses is the standard, "first damage card face up," then contain prevents that face up card.

Hi,

Thanks!!!

Still a last question related to Station:

If I move my ship/squadron and it still overlap the station, do I have again the benefit of "healing" (as I learned here, after finishing the movement)?

If by some reason my ship remains in the same place (without moving), do I have again the benefit of healing or only after finishing A MOVEMENT?

at the end of every movement phase for each ship (weather you moved or not) you trigger any overlap effects. this means yes yuo would still heal another card

Understood!

Many thanks!

On a side note, I found myself reversing my cynical opinion of the Contain token. With the proliferation of critical effect upgrade cards, I assumed it would be useless. But after taking about half a dozen standard critical effects in two games, it gained newfound respect.

It is "anti Dodonna "

Not if Dodonna takes a XX-9 or two and some APTs ;)

That's what I played against yesterday. AF II with XX-9, Torp frigate with APTs, Dodanna's Pride, and a Yavaris.

He cycled through 50 of my damage cards.

Man, my Livestream game, I was just against a Dodonna Dual MonCal List with *NO* Crit upgrades, and my Damage Deck was still 3 Cards short of fully drawn at the end.....
