Favorite officer on ISD

By SmogLord, in Star Wars: Armada

What's your favorite officer to run on the ISD and why?

I'm torn between Intel officer, navigation officer and Needa. They are all great in their own way. I love the intel officer for taking out brace tokens, the nav officer so I can always get that extra click or speed change without constantly spamming nav commands. And Needa is awesome because I'll trade the contain for an evade any day. Also, with the evade you can run turbolaser reroutes on an ISD, bolstering that red dice damage.

What do you guys think?

I don't use officers very often. I find that, for most of them, they do things that I generally am not interested in doing. There are a few obvious examples, like Raymus for a Rebel fleet or Intel Officer. For an ISD, Intel Officer is awesome. I have used Needa once or twice but I found him lacking. I don't want to replace any my other tokens for an Evade.

I prefer intel over just about any officer on an ISD.

Anything that puts someone's brace on the chopping block if used is just gooey chocolate goodness--like fresh out of the oven chocolate chip cookies.

As a counterpoint, I love Needa. He's super effective against trc90's for his points.

Intel Officer is also strong, as can be Wing Commander in the right list.

The evade is for the turbo reroute circuits. That is the combo. So many don't realize that was always the point.

I totally get that. I actually played that very combo the first time I used my ISD. I just don't find it worth it. TRCs are great, but I'm not willing to use two upgrade slots, 9 points, and effectively lose a defense token, just to have that effect available to my ISD. Just not for me. :)

I'm of the same opinion. I'd rather put xi-7's on an ISD as opposed to trc's.

I find adding Needa to a VSD to be sooooo much better than on an ISD. Give that VSD SW-7 ions and you can be sure to do some real damage.

as for the ISD, I think support officer works really well. And so does the Intel officer.

Haven't actually tried him on the VSD. Assume you drop one of the Redirects for it? Will have to test this one out.

yeah you drop a redirect, add an evade, use trc and sw-7 ( obviously using a Vic 2) and it becomes damage central. Plus the evade allows you a little bit of that survivability you need. Especially with motti.

Intel Officer hands down.

Pairs well with Avenger

Wulff Yularen. Gives amazing command buffs and flexibility. One nav token will last you the entire game, or bonus repairs/squadron attacks as needed.

I'm using 2 officers in my current list, Needa on my VSD-I and Wulff Yularen on my ISD-II. Wulff has amazing synergy with Tarkin, and Needa helps with the VSD survivability + synergizes nicely with TRC. I used to favor Intel Officer, which is also a strong officer card, but I found that card to be too much of a wild card, having either very little effect or a very large effect depending on the opponent's list. When it dominates a match by removing the brace from Ackbar's ECM'ed MC-80 and almost single handedly wins you the match, it sort of sucks the fun and feeling of achievement away ;)

X-17 are indeed much better. Favorite card!

I actually find defense liasion on an ISD to be quite effective if I choose Grand Moff Tarkin as commander, but normally I go with Wulff Yularen and GMT as you can spend the token granted by GMT before retrieving it with Wulff. I haven't used intel officer..... yet!

Because I love Tarkin right now I am loving the Defence Liason. Filling the dials with Concentrate Fire commands with the occasional Squadron (if needed/wanted) and just switching to Repair/Navigate on tap is pretty awesome.

On an ISD it's either Intel Officer or Wulf, depending on the role the ISD is playing.

On a VSD, the Navigation Officer is just money, the extra click on that movement chart is just what the VSD needs, but doesn't require me to limit my command options to navigate spam.

Can't say I like the question.

It's like saying "what kind of pants should you wear?" well, am I going on an interview or sitting at home watching Netflix :P

I have used to great effect:

Wulf

Intel

Wing Commander

Needa

etc. etc. etc.

Altho Wulf I will reserve for engine techs demolisher, bank 1 nav token and guarantee using engine techs on demo for whole game (add in Ozzel as admiral and that little bugger can be the most unpredictable thing on the board)

Last tourney I used Needa because I knew I was going to stand-off with my ISD and used the living crap out of that evade token.

Wulf. Hands down awesome.

1 Extra squadron, 2 Engineering, Nav (+2 Ozzel), CF reroll is the weakest link.

The first 3 are crazy good. 2 shield redirects or 1 shield. Combined with a Dial you can do 2 damage cards, 1 shield/1 redirect/1 damage. The best part is you can do any command and throw in a Nav command when needed.
