Potential lists for tournament tomorrow

By GML, in X-Wing Squad Lists

I have some list ideas that I have been kicking around, and I was wondering what people thought would give me the best chance for success at a local tournament tomorrow. The store owner has put up the Imperial Assault Carrier as a prize if there are more than 9 people attending.

First, I should note what I have available to me.

I have bought:

  • Both core sets
  • Imperial Aces
  • Decimator
  • Slave I
  • TIE Punisher
  • TIE Phantom
  • TIE Defender
  • TIE Interceptor
  • TIE Fighter
  • TIE Advanced

Anyways, here are some of the lists I was considering:

List one

Soontir Fel (Interceptor): Push the Limit. 30pts

Carnor Jax (Interceptor): Push the Limit. 29pts

Whisper (Phantom): Fire-Control System, Veteran Instincts, Advanced Cloaking Device. 39pts

Total Points: 98

This would give me a decent initiative bid, giving me a better chance to engage on my terms. However, the Interceptors are much more fragile in that they are relying on not being shot to survive.

List Two

Rear Admiral Chiraneau (Decimator): Predator, Gunner, Dauntless. 56pts

Krassis Trelix (Firespray): Heavy Laser Cannon. 43pts

Total Points: 99

Capable of taking much more damage than the previous list, but quite the blunt instrument.

List Three

Soontir Fel (Interceptor): Push the Limit, Stealth Device. 33pts

Whisper (Phantom): Fire-Control System, Veteran Instincts, Advanced Cloaking Device. 39pts

Royal Guard Pilot (Interceptor): Push the Limit, Stealth Device. 28pts

Total Points: 100

I lose the initiative bid from the first list, but I can get it back by dropping Whisper to Echo. The Interceptors are given a more defensive edge, but the RGP suffers from not being an ace.

List Four

Soontir Fel (Interceptor): Push the Limit, Stealth Device. 33pts

Rexler Brath (Defender): Heavy Laser Cannon, Predator, Twin Ion Engine Mk. II. 48pts

Howlrunner (TIE Fighter). 18pts

Total Points: 99pts

Something completely different. Still have the initiative bid. Fel dashes ahead while Rexler and Howlrunner support each other. Rexler relies on the rerolls from Howl and Predator to save his focus to kick out as many crits as he can.

I see you would like to bring interceptors but they really, really want autothrusters. Unless there are no turrets in your meta, you are going to be very disappointed in interceptors without autothrusters. With all the Dash/TLT lists around this is a very valuable card.

Phantom + Decimator

or

Phantom + miniswarm

i would go with one of these with what you have.

P.S. Rebel captive and engine upgrade would do good for deci+phantom list

I agree with Nitratas that Interceptors without autothrusters is just asking to be popped. With what you have, I would likely run Decimator + Phantom

Something along the lines of:

Chiraneu: Predator, Engine, Yssane, Rebel Captive, Gunner

Whisper: VI, FCS, ACD, Mara Jade

I don't know the points on that, its just off the top of my head, but it should give you a nice framework to work with.

I understand your point about the autothrusters; and as much as I would love to have them, I don't. The meta around here is rather hard to judge, tbh. There are three game stores at three different points in the city. There is one at the very north end, the one I frequent is in the central area, and another at the south end. All have pretty regular X-wing play going on, but I can only speak to what happens at the store I go to. For the most part, I have not encountered many turrets. Usually a Dash list, but I've always found that I can handle Dash through concentrated focus fire within a couple of turns.

All of the lists I posted have one thing in common (besides the interceptors). I've never lost a game with them at my LGS. Granted, the number of games each list has is rather sparse, but the statement holds.

Let me try coming at this from a different angle, perhaps. Let's assume that the meta in my area of all three stores combined doesn't revolve heavily around turrets, is there one list there in particular you would take above the others?

If nearly everyone is running fixed arc lists, I'd run List 3. 2 solid arc dodgy ships at PS 9 and a reasonably solid blocker/gun in the royal guard.

Would it be worthwhile to drop Whisper to Echo to maintain a initiative bid?
