Double Tap

By HistoryGuy, in X-Wing Squad Lists

I lost my store tournament pretty hard. I made another list to work towards, but I want to know if this list is good before I spend money on it.

E-Wing: •Corran Horn (50)

Marksmanship (3)

Fire Control System (2)

Advanced Proton Torpedoes (6)

•R2-D2 (4)

Y-Wing: Gold Squadron Pilot (25)

Twin Laser Turret (6)

R2 Astromech (1)

Y-Wing: Gold Squadron Pilot (25)

Twin Laser Turret (6)

R2 Astromech (1)

Total: 100/100

Corran with 2 y's is pretty decent.

I usually run PTL or VI on Corran. I can see why marksmanship was chosen, but on turns you use it, you will basically be a sitting duck. My preferred Corran is PTL, FCS, R2D2, and Engine. That said, it leaves you open to PS9 aces/getting dodged.

Tough choice to choose between PTL or VI on Corran these day... LOTS of Poes with VI and lots of Vader/Fel (at least in my small meta). Even if you had VI but stuck at 100 points, your average opponent with PS 10 aces will have an init bid.

Something I have wanted to try lately is Corran with Sensor Jammer. Lack of FCS causes lower offense on your turns with double tapping, but you could augment that with an EPT like Predator. Completely unconventional, but a thought. If you want something tried and true, stick with what Mezegis suggests and add engine to Corran. The purchase of additional ships may also be an issue...

Why not upgrade one of the Gold's to Salm?

Corran Horn (35)
Veteran Instincts (1)
Fire-Control System (2)
R2-D2 (4)

Horton Salm (25)
Twin Laser Turret (6)
R2-D6 (1)
Veteran Instincts (1)

Gold Squadron Pilot (18)
Twin Laser Turret (6)
R2 Astromech (1)

Total: 100

Salm can shoot before Horn as both are PS 10. He can strip the target of tokens then Horn can blast them. In fact I really need to try this squad.

I don't have VI. This list is if I bought the B-wing, K-wing, and another Y-Wing. To get VI I'd have to buy a slave 1 or falcon as well. I don't have a ton of money to be putting into this at one time.

I might try a variation on the list (if you have the cards). Corran as a double-tap sniper with the adv torpedoes is a nice concept, I really couldn't say whether it's a good idea or not though.

But either way, the following might make him more proficient at it...

If you lose the marksmanship and the r2s off the y's, that'll save you 5 points.

With that you could add veteran instincts and an engine upgrade to Corran.

I think VI is very important for corran, because if you're trying to line up the R1 shot with the torps (and just for ace hunting in general) you really want that PS10.

Engine upgrade will really help to get corran into range (and out of trouble) too.

The R2's on the y's (IMO) don't do much for you. Those guys should almost never be stressed, and as such shouldn't really care what colour their manuvers are (as long as they aren't red).

That's just my thoughts.

Cards can be bought individually from a number of sources (Blue Rat Games, Big Orbit etc, and there are also some reasonable deals on eBay).
