30 point Jake and or 25 point Green's.

By thestggrwng, in X-Wing

I see A wing builds left and right and honestly they are never that good. because they just can't hit hard enough. Juke limits your movement and attack too much because you have to put PTL on them which means your actions have to be either a boost/evade or a focus/evade. but a fast highly maneuverable ship with push and Outmaneuver seems to me to be the best use of points on the ship. It allows them to boost and focus for their shot (barrel roll too if Jake) and because it is easy to move an A wing into a flanking position, Outmaneuver is going to allow them to hit hard.

Jake lives long enough to make sure he does

this one on the other hand won't

Jake plus Proton Rockets is a solid build for a strong opening punch and a very agile ship. Pricey at 33 points, but at PS 9 (with VI) he can be a good alpha strike against an ace.

Yea what they said. The lower ps As are different but jake will eventually burn most things down given enough time. Thats where the prockets come in.

I've become a huge fan of Wired on a A-Wing. Since you're going to Push most times anyway, being able to reroll <focus> on both attack and defense will do a lot to help on both defense and offense.

Myself I've found you have to think of A-Wings differently when it comes to terms of damage. If you fly them well, keep them out of arc and/or able to use autothrusters they can do a ton of damage over the course of a game.

That's especially true with Jake who is extra slippery with free boost or barrel roll. He can focus, barrel roll, then boost in a single turn. That's a lot of relocation, of course VI helps with that a lot when he's PS9. But right now I'd rather have PTL and Wired.

But having played a GSP with PTL and Wired at league I really have become a fan of it. As long as I didn't do something like get blocked that guy was very hard to kill, and dished out a ton of damage over the course of two games.

I tried him with Wired for a few games. But the PS7, and my rolls not being what Wired works with, made me swap it for VI.

I can see it may not work as well on Jake, with a GSP you're not going to last very often anyway so a different way of playing them.

I've found Jake doesn't need PTL.

VI and crackshot prockets makes him a cheap ace killer.

This is the way i run him as well. I have seen prockets used very successfully on him too.

This. I've been finding I've been ignoring Chaardan Refit completely lately to take a Missile A-Wing to deal with pesky arc dodgers. And once Guidance Chips hits the market they're going to be even better.

An A-Wing with Homing Missile & Crackshot flanking can give plenty of ships pause for thought.

Yeah I'm always focusing for a boost/roll, then PTL'ing for and evade OR not at all. And I've hardly needed to k-turn him. And in my games, my rolls were either focuses when I had a token or blanks when I didn't :P So Wired (unfortunatley) didn't kick in. I love the idea of it though, maybe more so on Tycho.

Focus + Boost/Roll + another action = Soontir-lite. Plus VI and he's 9 just the same as the old Baron. I'll see how I fair this weekend.

Oh I didn't say it wasn't good, just that he doesn't need it.

Agreed. These GSP's are very slippery and their PS 3 makes for some interesting opportunities. Against PS 1 and 2, they act like arc dodgers and are almost aces in their own right. Against higher PS, they make great blockers and are still resistant to Predator. And against a mix, you can do both, boost around that Academy and block Soontir all in one move. Its pretty sweet.

Against aces, they make great blockers

I love Jake, maybe the most fun ship to fly IMO. But he's also expensive... Because you really need to load him up a bit to make the best use of him.

For the store championship I'm working on some 4 ship lists, and that means there's no real room for an expensive ace. Wednesday I flew my list against a Corran Poe list twice and the GSP really did well, I made a few mistakes with him, but when I was flying him well the other guy was getting really sick of throwing 3-4 dice at him and missing.

One thing to consider with Wired is it actually really helps with autothrusters, because if you roll a bunch of <focus> and don't have a token AT may do jack. When you can reroll the <focus> the odds of getting something useful is pretty good.

I've got him with the VI/PTL/AT/Refit/Title build in a 5 ship list.

Jake as above

Ello Asty with VI, R7-T1 and Intergrated

and 3 Bandits.

I wanted to give some new or lesser-used Aces a go. Plus blockers.

I don't know why, but I just have trouble taking bandits... I've used them and had sucess with them, but when list building I always look for some other option.

Oh they are my go-to in Rebel lists. I usually go five ships and usally 3 are Bandits/Talas. Then 2 fast/heavy hitters to accompany.

Agreed, especially when it's 3 of them. 36 points that can pretty easily turn into Poe, or some other Ace with some tweaks.

EDIT:

Jake - VI,PtL,AT,Title, Refit

Ello - VI, R7-T1, IA

Poe - VI, R5-P9,AT

is 99 points. 10/9/9 sounds pretty fun. Especially when it's 2 T-70s and an A-Wing =)

Yeah I had considered this for the Store Championship. Still may end up flying it, depending how my 4 ship list goes.

Poe Dameron R5-P9, Weapons Guidance, PtL

Wes Janson R3-A2, VI

Jake Farrell Refit, PtL, Autothrusters, Juke

Planning on trying Juke with PTL on Jake and a green the next time I can, should help them cause a bit more damage while being defensive.

Juke, PtL, Autothrusters on a Green Squadron is 24 points. 3 of these with a PS 4 TLT Stresshog is nasty.

Jan can help make Jake punchier without marking him as a super threat...

Wedge Antilles [X-wing] (29)

~ Push the Limit - 3

~ BB-8 - 2

~ Integrated Astromech - 0

Jake Farrell [A-wing] (33)

~ Push the Limit - 3

~ Proton Rockets - 3

~ Autothrusters - 2

~ A-wing Test Pilot - 0

~ Veteran Instincts - 1

Jan Ors [HWK-290] (25)

~ Wired - 1

~ Twin Laser Turret - 6

~ Nien Numb - 1

Total: 100 points

(Alternatively, you can replace Wedge with a VI Poe + R5P9 for a PS10 Ace hunter, dropping Nien from Jan.)

Wedge and Jake shoot first at PS9... either can use Jan's ability giving her a stress (during PS9 shooting) for defense and both shots of her TLT. (Also, Jan's ability stacks an extra dice on Jake's Procket shot!)

Wedge is a super jouster in this list. While Jake is an arc-dodger / flanker. And Jan just needs to be anywhere at Range 3 between the both of them, and she smiles with the wired reroll on offense and defense for everything she rolls.

If you take the alternate Poe, Poe becomes an Ace hunter and regener. After the first exchange, he peels off and hunts anything that goes after Jan.

With either version, Wedge/Poe usually downs an enemy ship in the first/second round of exchanged fire. Its good to reposition (hit n' run) while Jake is flanking the second largest threat, and Jan acts as bait. This sets up for simultaneous kills in about the forth or fifth round of exchanged fire... Jake hitting with the 6 dice Prockets and Wedge/Poe focusing two rounds on whatever is going after Jan. Jan just plinks away with the TLT the whole time. Don't get sucked into the trap of letting Wedge/Poe try to tank anything after the first or second round of shooting.
