First Tournament - Suggestions on squad

By nb246, in X-Wing Squad Lists

Playing in my first tourney this weekend. I've got a new and very limited assortment

of ships. I was thinking of running this Scum squad. I'm new and looking for any

suggestions.

Black Sun Ace (26)
Kihraxz Fighter (23), Crack Shot (1), Glitterstim (2)

Black Sun Ace (26)
Kihraxz Fighter (23), Crack Shot (1), Glitterstim (2)

Moralo Eval (47)
YV-666 (34), Heavy Laser Cannon (7), Homing Missiles (5), Maneuvering Fins (1)

99 points

I would drop the Homing missiles and go with K4 and Recspec, or K4 and Tactician.

I agree with Panic, the damage you would lose from drooping the missiles will be made up with easily by the steady punch of a TL/Focused HLC every round

OK. I've changed to this. Any particular strategy or tactical ideas?

What should I look out for? What are some typical newbie mistakes?

100 points

Hang back as much as you can with the YV666 to let the HLC do it's job, and get into the scrum with your escorts. You best bet is to strike hard and fast. You don't have the Agi or recovery to win long, drawn out engagements, so use you cards, skills to be as damaging as possible. Dead ships can't shoot back :D

I ran a list similar to this a little while back, I really love it ( https://community.fantasyflightgames.com/topic/199091-poedash-vs-bossk-and-goons/ ) . For me it worked when I used the YV-666 like a sniper, hugging the edge. The fighters just need to get up in their face and wreck stuff in as little time as possible, try to get a target lock before popping glitterstim. Be careful about guys getting on the freighter's tail, in another match I had a Soontir chasing Bossk and I couldn't shake him, made me wish I had a feedback array or something.

The list is good!

I would suggest dropping the fins (dubiously useful) and maxing out your crew slots:

Eval w/ HLC, k4 droid, outlaw tech & tactician = 48

Recon Spec is not so hot on a 1 agility ship, whereas outlaw tech will be invaluable due to how often you need to pull red moves on the YV-666

Keep the khiraxz as is! Good luck!

WOW! Thanks for all of the input and help. Gonna chew on this a bit... You guys are awesome!

Again, thanks for the suggestions, escpecially on strategy!

Ok... I don't have Tactician card, but how's about this:

99 points

Black Sun Ace (26) Kihraxz Fighter (23)

Crack Shot (1), Glitterstim (2)

Black Sun Ace (26) Kihraxz Fighter (23)

Crack Shot (1), Glitterstim (2)

Moralo Eval (48) YV-666 (34)

Heavy Laser Cannon (7), K4 Security Droid (3), Outlaw Tech (2), Intelligence Agent (1)

its not necessarily a problem, but with no repositional abilities Int agent is pretty useless.

i feel like that 1 point can be better spent on Dampeners (hilariously making Int agent a better choice)

so if you dont want an Init Bid take dampeners and Int agent

Your battle report was very cool and helpful too. Got anymore write-ups? Very entertaining!

Another option would be to drop the Int agent and use the 2 points on either a 3rd Glitterstim, or my preference, Feedback Array. It's not something you use often, but the ability to snipe things behind you is amazing. I run Feedback on my brobots sometimes, and have killed off Soontir, Jake, Whisper, and Jax in 1 tournament alone with it.

If you have IA, you may want to throw Maneuvering Fins back on there. Solid build though!
