Initiative...Need some input

By shaner, in X-Wing

Hey folks.

I have read a few posts recently about the importance of initiative. Besides obstacle placement, what are the benefits of initiative??

Here is my understanding of combat...I am PS 8. My opponent is PS 8. I have initiative so I shoot fists and, by chance, destroy him. Because we are the same PS, my opponent still gets to shoot back anyways. So what is the benefit here?

In movement, you want your Aces to move last...correct? If you have initiative and both you and your opponent have aces with the same PS, you have to move your ace first, right? So is this a disadvantage?

Anyway, any advice/info on initiative would be much appreciated. I would really like to understand it value tactically.

Thanks

Winning initiative by points or roll lets you decide who has initiative. If you want to move last you give it to your opponent and they move their ps8 before you move yours.

I think "Initiative" is a bad term since it sound only beneficial, as is the case in most games.

Maybe the same terms as in Armada, "First player" and "Second player", should be used instead.
