Why am I getting so angry about the lack of wave 3 news

By Funk Fu master, in Star Wars: Armada

I actually think that they are working on wave 4 right now. Don't believe me, go find the GenCon interview

While I do believe you, I find it interesting that you have made an assertion and then tell others to go find the proof. lol

Were you expecting him to provide an APA-formatted citation?

Of course, they're already working on Wave 4. They have an 18-month lead-time. That probably means they're already conceptualizing Wave 5!

While I'm also starting to get ornery for the lack of news, I have to also say that I haven't actually fully explored Wave 2 yet - and that's coming from an Empire-only player. I have an ISD and two Raiders still in their original wrapping. Part of that is because I picked up two ISDs and a Raider from the Sullust tournaments [/bragging], which I did unwrap, but also because I'm not yet sure what to do with the Raiders.

A good reason behind that is because I'm a squadron-heavy (>110pnts of mostly bombers) player in a local meta that doesn't do that. So, until my meta gets wise to me and brings more fighters (=non-bomber squadrons) to the table, I don't have to evolve and see how the Raider can fit into my meta.

The point of mentioning that is that the wave two meta hasn't fully run its course in my area, and I imagine that many other local metas are also still developing. We shouldn't want wave three to come out yet (though an announcement would be nice).

A link to substantiate would probably be fine....

Google searches are simple and easy but I will humor you. This is the same interview where speed 4 MC30 was confirmed (after I found the fact that the ship card had a white square at the sped 4 column)

As for Mikael Hasselstein's meta. . . I have explored a lot of it from both sides and I am no where near figuring it out. I doubt the IFF guys know either and I am willing to bet that they have more games in than most anyone else

I get that you're a fan and everything, but every podcast begins with them saying they haven't played much if at all due to X,Y,Z. I'm not trying to diss them or anything, but there are plenty of people who play more.

Yawn, wave three super star destroyer. It can't fix a broken foundation.

One of my FLGS managers seemed to think the merger with Asmodee meant they had to clamp down on prerelease information. I have no information personally to know if that's true or not, but it's one explanation I've heard to cover why no information has been released yet. I have another FLGS owner acquaintance who said he was going to ask his distributors if there's any news.

I was going to stay out of this thread, then I read your line here...

Me and the local shop owner were just talking about the merger last night. He believes FFG/Asmodee is a bit of a tire fire right now. Getting confirmation of prodect availability is flakey at best. He was buying through Alliance but wanted to start going directly through FFG because of the inability to get released products on time. Even with direct purchases from them, it's still hit and miss with exact dates.

He got in some Most Wanted packs yesterday, but he can't get confirmation on the rest of a Wave 6 restock. But if you look on FFG's page, its shipping. As a business owner, it makes him feel/look stupid when he can't guarantee an approximate date for his customers.

I wouldn't be surprised if the slow output of Armada is somewhat hindered by the merger. But ultimately I'd like to think they are trying to avoid the clunky releases of the game so far.

Edit- Clearly my phone hates editing quotes.

Edit II- Had to hop on my desktop this morning, this was bothering me and I fixed it. LOL!

This game was rushed and is broken. Fighters don't work, ackbar op, too complicated etc., etc. It's dying on the vine locally. I want to love it buts its on the way out. I'll miss the models.

No, you can't really. . . WOW you likely do. . . Well. . . This will be fun.

First off, if you are having issues in this game it is likely a skill level thing. I win with Imperials and rebels, I would. A tournament using Dodonna not because I don't need Ackbar but because I wanted to see how much Dodonna would be affected in wave 2 turns out not much.

Squadrons. This little babies are one of the HARDEST aspects to learn. It takes awareness and knowledge that you just can't toss them willy-nilly and expect them to do their jobs. This is why people think B-Wings are bad and yet, my B-Wings have more kills then some players do.

So any issues you are having is not the game, but actually just you. Go test things out and enjoy it but play with an understanding that 80-90% of this game is all about skill.

Have you seen their FTX twitch days? They played 10+ games or so in the span of a weekend. That's not their normal groups that is a single weekend. WWPDSteven has 1-2 twitch streams a week normally. Sure I get in 2 to 5 games a week but they do a bit more over all I believe.

My experience is at the other end of the spectrum to yours.

You must be joking.

I wouldn't bother.... I expect he is having some troll time seeing who will take the bait.

In all seriousness though. I am really surprised at how people expect this to be just like X-Wing and miss out on the true depth that the game has.

X-Wing is like fencing where Armada is more like a general and his battle plan.

I smell a troll.

I havent posted for a while, and the main reason is this:

Game is dead where i live. Totally dead, from what was a pretty lively community. Poor launch, heavy delays and a total black hole of news has sucked most players away to other systems. I'm trying to wave the flag, but have pretty much given up, and will likely witch to Dropfleet Commander for our linked DZC/DFC campaigns once thats out.

Damned shame :(

It's not quite the same but it helps a lot when you want to play this fantastic game.

Also I'm sorry it's dead in your area, makes me sad too :'(

I have a few people locally who have bought in, but I've never seen play it. So my demos are semi effective.

I think it will do better with a few waves to mix up the percevived variety of ships. But it does take a 6x3 table to play. Not everyone has the space to do it at home as well.

I'm sorry to hear your case being what it is.

It doesn't have to be a 6x3 table, nor does it really have to be 6x3 at all if it's casual play. Do what's fun/sensible for you and those you could potentially involve!

I just want to counter Lyraeus by saying I actually do think B-Wings are dead, and it will just take time for people to realize that they are, because the corpses are moving at speed 2 and won't cross the game board into visual range for several more turns.

Or, put differently, I think in a more mature Armada, as players continue to improve in skill, the value of maneuver will become greater. This is why I am also not sanguine on the future of the VSD, especially the VSD-II.

But if Maneuver is Key, then Restricting Maneuver is also key.

And B-Wing Minefields do that in strides.

Maneuver vs Counter Maneuver.

I think it keeps them just as relevant as they always have been... But you can't ever take an all-or-nothing approach.

B-wings are scary, but just like any weapon, they have to be in the right hands to do the most damage.

A LOT of people don't understand the power of squadrons. In a game where defences are meant to mitigate hammer blows, tiny little daggers can be devastating.

I have had tremendous success with the psychological game of getting people to shoot at and focus on that big bad ISD or that threatening Demolisher shooting towards them while the real damage is actually done by a few firesprays. One of my favourite and most effective tactics is the squadron phase Rhymer turret late in the game where I move Rhymer strategically and cluster Firesprays around him and finish off ship after ship while my ISD runs away laughing.

I always tell people that squadrons are one of THE hardest things to master.

I love B-Wings and know how they function and how to use them effectively. They can be extremely aggressive and has great synergistic value with Precision Strike.

yup. My buddy used a Y-wing swarm list to great effect with Superior positions.

Frankly speed 2 is all you need when you can place them where they will get ploughed over by a large-base ship
