Why am I getting so angry about the lack of wave 3 news

By Funk Fu master, in Star Wars: Armada

As the subject asks, why do I get so frustrated whenever EVERY OTHER FFG game system has had an update article execpt the best selling new game system of 2015.

I am still learning about wave 2, hell I haven't even taken my token raider out for a spin yet. But with out the security and anticipation of something new on the horizon I feel almost anxious about the game.

The Game seems a bit rudderless at the moment. X-Wing always seems to have at least 2 waves or mid wave special releases on the horizon. We currently have nothing. At all. (The first person to mention the new play mats will be going to a very special place in hell, to hang out with their friends who talk in movies)

Its no longer even humourous to comment on the facebook announcements of the other games articles. Its depressing.

Why am I so angry? If I am lucky I play once a week, with a tournament every 3-6 months and I am about to go away for work for 5 weeks. (Unless anyone in Hobart or Brisbane are keen for a game, if so I will pack a fleet)

Am I just obsessed?

Is it a sign of addiction?

Should I stop binge listening to IFF to and from work (DohDANNA!)

I agree, one of the ways these games grow is adding new things and when people see the new things advertised then they buy the game.

I kinda feel like this game is dieing in my area, I haven't met a new player in months and the last 2 tournaments we had fell through because only 2 guys showed up.

I know why im angry:

I'm a consumer *****. I like buying the shiny over-packaged plastic ships.

I like opening those boxes

I like punching out and sorting cards and components

I like painting the bases and sometimes, the ships

I like theorizing about lists and then having all the ships I could ever need for those lists even if i never actually play the list

I hate that I can no longer justify buying any more of these things because I am in danger of topping out even the wackier lists

I hate that I don't have any sort of idea how long I have to wait until I can do the above things again.

its not rational and I'm not going to pretend it is! haha!

And so it begins...again.

Hey I live in Hobart. I am an Armada Newb. Own heaps of stuff and am desperate for a game vs an experienced player. Anytime?!

I'm desperate for Wave 3 because Wave 2 was a disappointment for the Empire. We got the soda-can Raider and the awesome and pricey Star Destroyer, with some bounty hunters, to use in the fleet. While the Rebels have a second Christmas with everything they got.

Please, give us some great Admirals to counter Ackbar and with ships that can withstand him!

Lack of wave 3 news + Ackbar OP in a single thread... this should be good :D

Maybe you're just hangry, have a snickers.

Is it me, or are people developing a really short attention span? You guys had new toys for both factions 2 months ago!

I've run the Raider in nearly every Imperial-faction game I've played for the past month and it's been a constant disappointment.

Meanwhile, every MC30 I've seen on the table (including mine) has been great, and who complains about MC80s?

It's not that I crave new toys, I'd just like something new to look forward to.

Let's be honest here: A lot of Imperials are grumbly.

The raiders honestly have been popping everywhere. This might be the first time Armada has actually had a underpowered ship.

The ISD are just soooo expensive. And not nearly as regal cuz Ackbar farts out even more dice.

This game could really use a wave3. Wave2... has not matured the game. Its like adolescence.

And this is like adolescent, nihilistic fear.

Imps are complaining about Wave 2?! An announcement might be nice but Wave 2 is still settling in and Store Champs are happening. I think it's in a good place.

raider seems to be doing fine in the vassal world cup... user error ;)?

Oh, and wave 3 should have the executor star destroyer amd change the rules for fighters. There, i think that about covers it for trolling. PS Plus, card packs.

Im sitting at my desk looking at the corvette swarm and neb b swarm and the yt-2400 swarm and h6 swarms i built. Then i look at the pair of ISD's. Then i realize it isnt that i like rebels more, its that those star destroyers are that awesome: i dont need to mess around with anything else. Except the firespray swarm, aggressor swarm, YV swarm...

Let's see how many Imperial lists rank in the Store championships and Worlds. If they do, let's see how.

I'm frustrated because I can't rely on the Raiders or VSDs now to perform in my lists. When I set out to build for Empire I immediately have to discount them, because in case I run into Home One these ships are going to suffer. When building for the Rebellion I don't have this problem... I'm not really afraid of anyone on the Empire's side except maybe Screed, because Screed can do something I can't match. Rhymer balls are also a threat, but either I have faster ships to get away from it or a fighter group with Jan Ors to interfere with them.

I feel confident building Rebel lists. I no longer feel confident building Imperial Lists. When I do, the only confident main-stays are Rhymerballs and ISDs. Even Demolishers have kind of lost the potential they had given the new targets they'll be charging at. Rebels though, can do anything, from Ackbar broadside lists to Mon-Mothma CR-90 shannanigans to Firing line Nebulon-Bs with slaved turrets and intel officers.

I'll believe in the Raider when I see it, and I have been running it frequently to try seeing the light. it has disappointed me every time, so I can't believe the defensive claims of the Raider's performance easily. I've seen it performed well against me in a blue on blue match, but you could come away from that with the impression that Empire is still terrible all around...

I'd love an SSD in Wave 3, so Empire can finally regain the power that was promised in the introduction scenario when VSDs could crush rebel ships if the Rebels were handled poorly. Now the dynamic seems to be opposite, otherwise the Raider wouldn't be some kind of finesse tool that apparently prevents the laymen from understanding its greatness.

I'm wary taking only two ISDs into a match, because once you're down one ship things go against you pretty fast.

Even better: the SSD has been mentioned!

And one of the other 27 threads about this wasn't good enough for your rant? What make you the special snowflake that must have their own thread?

TLDR: Look at me, look at me LOOK AT ME PLEASE LOOK AT ME

Because when a wave has been announced this forum is a beacon of constructive, joyful and fun discussion about anticipated new toys.

Wave 3 has been speculated ad nauseum. No one knows what direction FFG will take, because they are not communicating with us.

Also, don't know what TL:DR means m'lord

Too Long; Didn't Read.

I can understand if FFG refuses to release any information to prevent hype creating a half-year wait. It's kind of a balance where FFG might not win... wait too long and you have fan unrest like now, but release too soon with a long wait time and you have fans wondering when these things will come out.

But It is a little disappointing when Imperial Assault and X-Wings have a bunch of expansions tumbling around, and say for what is next. Armada doesn't have that, leaving us fans wanting and restless. It would be one thing to be happy with what we got, but as I indicated above, Empire didn't end up with a satisfying lot wave 2 and I don't want my ISDs rusting in the bag because I don't have any good escorts to take with them, and they're too expensive to field many multiples of very well.

I don't have any good escorts to take with them

Sounds to me like you personally didn't get any good escorts, while everyone else playing Imperial did. You must've gotten defective ones. Maybe you need to force choke you some Raider and Glad captains and hire new ones, because pretty much everybody I've played against who used them as ISD escorts thought they were great.

In all seriousness though: if you don't like playing with a certain ship, don't. ISDs do just fine on their own with some squadron support. But your own lack of success doesn't mean your faction got screwed or that the Raider is under-powered. It may mean it doesn't fit [in] your play style, or that you just haven't figured out how to use it.

I, for example, personally don't like the MC80 that much because I've never used it particularly successfully. Similarly, I refuse to run any Neb that's not Yavaris. But I don't bellyache about the rebels getting screwed out of a good big ship, because that's obviously not the case when other people are winning games and tournaments with them.

If you really don't like the Raider that much, why don't you just not use it and fly different lists?

No need for the attitude guys, seriously.

I'd be really happy just to get a few FFG articles, or even a couple of web only scenarios or something. On the other hand I can see why hey are hyping Rebellion, which looks awesome.

The current state is almost like just before they announced Sullust. Every couple of days we saw a plaintive "Sad state of affairs" or "this game is dying" post that attracted horrendous amounts of attention.

Wave 2 is great, but it would be great to have some fresh input to the discussions. Really looking forward to seeing the Store Championship reporting coming in. Will hopefully get some surprise meta shakeups out of it.

To cite a famous character: We're doomed!

I am aware, actually, that my own opinions might not reflect the reality of the situation. It's part of the reason I keep trying Raiders in spite of how weak I feel the are, because I'd like to be proven wrong. It's just with every game before my eyes, practically, they don't meet the expectations I have for them or what others claim they are capable of. I also think of these ships theoretically and a few of the builds I've tried from that thinking, go down in flames (sometimes spectacularly).

And the problem with refraining from ships I don't like very much (no, more like don't trust to carry the day well), is because that takes away half the Imperial Fleet. I like ISDs, I think GSDs work, VSDs die to any Ackbar user with XI7s and Raiders have at most one shot as first player before they die to any ship medium-sized or higher. It's a very pessimistic outlook, but I try to think about how I would handle the worst case. There are too many worst-cases to patch for these ships for me to feel comfortable about.

Meanwhile the Rebels have uses for everything. The only thing I think is weak is the CR-90B, but even that could be great with SW-7s dumping all it's blue dice into pure damage with whatever it shoots at. There is literally no ship in the Rebellion that won't work in some list. I've seen great builds using Salvation. Home One is a provider of joy for the Rebel fleet. Can you point me to some list that uses Raiders spectacularly and the strategy on using it? Perhaps I overlooked it, but I don't see an abundance of threads saying how great the Raider is.

I am thinking I need to take more risks. Part of why I'm so down on VSDs and Raiders is because I'm a conservative player who likes striking from high-defense high-attack lists, and I like the Empire aesthetic. But instead of worrying about how well my ships are protected, maybe what I should be doing is trying to maximize damage and not try to protect my ships as best as I can.

The Raider allows for the Imperials to take a Squadron free/light list, they aren't specifically going to kill ships. However, by hitting the edge of a group of squadrons they can cause some damage, even better should they double arc one or more.

They'll also provide an activation when you would rather leave the other ships in your fleet for a bit. While this may mean they never kill anything much themselves is perhaps rather short sighted, if they allow your other ships a better opportunity at doing more work.

This is almost exactly my approach to the Raider - by slapping Instigator on it, I can get by with a CAP of no more than three or four TIE Fighters, use the Raider as a disposable speed-bump for enemy squadrons, and get a nice, cheap activation out of it. I see so many lists consisting of three ships, getting a fourth activation is a significant advantage for my own style of play - very often, it allows me to guarantee that I'll be able to double-activate with my ISD (activate last one turn, activate first the next - broooootal).
