Electronic Baffle + Ordnance

By Deepspace5, in X-Wing

Electronic Baffle has got me thinking about K-Turning with Punishers and then dropping bombs in front of the enemy. Clusters cover a little bit of a wider area, but Proximity mines seem to have the most effectiveness. What would you recommend? Is it even worth it? Regular bombers seem quite a bit cheaper, so I have my doubts.

The Cutlass Sq. Pilot with EB + EM + Munitions is 27-28 points, depending on which one you choose (or more if you add a second bomb).

I thought that as well when Baffle was announced.

Tested it on Vassal

2x cutlass with EM, Prox, Baffle, seismic.

1x Deathrain with Proton bombs, Advanced sensors and Conner net.

It was alright. Problems I had;

Okay, kturn and Prox mine. What next? Very few actually crashed into me. A few over shot and gave me the chance to attack. I never really got a good follow up move.

A bit of a slave to dice. Had a few games where I dripped all 4 and did no damage. Also had games where Soontir died in 2 mines. That was pretty funny.

If you aren't going against fragile aces, you don't win the damage race. I think they need a bit more punch.

Definitely fun, though.

You need to be picky about when to use it. On the proper turn it could of course be devastating. At the same time, you may not want to put yourself in a position where an enemy would be right behind you... which they'd need to be to land the Proximity Mine, unless you just want to clog up routes or something.

Been doing this a long time ago.

nothing brings MORE FUN to Epic games

than a Y-wing with Genius and a proton bomb equipped

Adreniline Rush on the PS5 Gamma Squad Vets will let you do something similar a bit cheaper. The Gamma Vet with Adreniline Rush + Prox Mines come in at 23 points. The PS2 Cutlass comes with Electronic Baffles + Proxmines for 25.

Nice ideas. Seems a lot more practical to get the bombs out there. I also looked at Leia crew on the Rebel side to give a couple of bombers that special turn.

Another thing I looked at for the EB Cutlass was to put additional proximity mines on there for a total of 8 (4 each). I suppose after the initial K-Turn to clog up the space I would either do another K-turn to shoot back at them the following round or a hard 2/3 to drop more mines...depending on where your enemy is flying. This kind of Cutlass comes out at 30 points, so two of them pairs with a 40 point Vader nicely.

Just thought of a Bwing Bomber and found this thread :)

Blue Sq Bwing + Baffle + EM + B/E2 + Sabine + Proximity = 31pts

Potential of 4+ damage (depending on crits) or even damage 2 different ships.

Those hard 1's can hit anyone on your immediate left and right. A 2-kturn + ship base + 1straight = laying a mine 4 ship lengths ahead of you. So an enemy at range 3 straight ahead of you is a perfect target :)

Compared to a Warden + EM + Sabine + Prox + Adv Slam = 32pt, plus you probably want a turret or else more bombs.

Maybe a bwing bomber could be a reasonable add to a list. Instant damage is always nice, especially against hard to hit aces.

This is indeed nasty but you want connor nets. With connor net it's 32 points of ruining aces. Connor nets are just so much better than proximity mines it's obscene for 1 point more.

Agreed. Prox mines are throwing unmodified dice. That's not very reliable. I must admit to thinking they and clusters look really cool though. I prefer the drop before the maneuver type bombs, but nets are pretty boss.

This is great!

I'd far prefer Advanced Sensors or Enhanced Scopes to monkey with bombs than Waffles, I think, especially with Deathrain who can chuck them forwards anyway.
