What's a good counter to triple Y-wings w/ion cannons?

Hey All. I just recently started playing at a local game store, and last week I got wrecked by three scum y-wings, all three with ion cannons, proximity mines and extra munitions. Not really knowing what to expect, I came at them with Wedge and two blue squadron b-wings each sporting ion cannons. I lost. So my question is, what does well against the 360 arc of ion cannon?

A few questions first: what pilot skill were these Y Wings? Did they have any astromechs?

A weakness of the Y Wing is that it doesn't stand up well to focused fire. If you manage to focus your fire on one and destroy it before it can shoot, it can make quite the difference, but this requires you to have a higher pilot skill.

Their other weakness is engaging at range 3 due to the rage of the Ion Cannon Turret. Your B wings will benefit greatly in this match up if you can force the first engagement to be range 3.

Stay at Range 3 or stay out of arc and use Autothrusters.

Instead of Wedge, try Poe.

Gotta keep them at range 3 with your b-wing ion cannons. Remember, y-wings will still roll only 1 defense die vs cannons at range 3. Once you establish that, it should be pretty easy for wedge to blast them.

Actually, that list of yours holds up well, you just gotta fly it right. If points are too scarce, ditch the ion cannons for FCS (Fire Control System, if you're new to the game). Use superior Pilot Skill for the B-Wings to slow play the Y's and barrel roll into range 3 whenever possible. Even unmodified at that point, you're still firing 3 attack dice at 2 evade dice, and taking a bad shot with no chance for them to retaliate is leagues better than taking a good shot and getting ioned (because the Y-wing can just turn away from you and keep firing at that point). Focus fire, don't spread it around or use things like Ion Cannon that do poor damage per round. You're playing a long game at that point, and drawing things out is where Y-Wings with turrets shine. Don't play on their turf. Wedge (optional Marksmanship) should be kept at extreme range as well, until the shields on a Y-Wing drop. Then dart in for the kill. Between Marksman ship and Wedge's pilot ability, one Y-Wing likely won't last more than 2 shots once the shields are out of the way.

Wedge with BB-8, PTL and Integrated Astromech plus 3 Blue squadron B's might be a good choice. Slow roll in, using BB-8 to retrograde roll in order to keep the engagement range at 3 for as long as possible. You pump out alot of firepower and should be able to kill or cripple a Y Wing on the initial exchange provided you can effectively concentrate your fire. Dropping the first Y Wing as quickly as possible is absolutely key, Y Wings with ion cannons can cause your B Wings all sorts of trouble if they manage to ionized you round to round, however if you kill one quickly you should be able to overwhelm them. Again maintain the engagement in range band three as long as possible and you should come out on top

3 YIONS should never pose that much of a problem. Were they A4s? what was the total loadout?

As long as you know your strengths and weaknesses and fly your ships accordingly.

6 Tie Fighters with Crack Shot.

It's not really a strong list honestly but what you took wasn't that good either.

B-wings are wasted if your not using their primary weapons they are not good ion carriers.

Y-wing's are slow and have terrible dodge so you concentrate your fire on one and it dies, they can only do three damage total with ion cannons there's no way they can kill your ships before you kill one of his.

Not trying to be harsh here but his y-wing list is weak and shouldn't give anyone issues.

When I was new I thought that Ion cannons could do up to 3 damage.

Because if not we have no idea what's in it.

My guess is either X-Wing / E-Wing or E-Wing / Headhunter. But that is another topic for another day.
